la Madeleine French Bakery & Cafe (214-696-6962) plans to open as many as 10 locations in the metro Phoenix, AZ valley area in the coming few years.

 

IKEA (610-834-0180) plans to open a 274,000 sq.ft. store in Emeryville, CA. during this month. The store will be the company’s largest in North America. The company is scouting the Sacramento, CA area for a future opening, perhaps during 2005.

 

Quizno’s (410-321-0100) is planning to open as many as 45 stores in MD, 40 of which are slated for the Baltimore metropolitan area and five in Harford County. The stores typically occupy spaces of 1,200 sq.ft. to 1,800 sq.ft. in central business districts and community centers. The company prefers to locate near supermarkets, theaters, health clubs, video retailers and other specialty food categories. The company presently operates 700 fast-food Italian restaurants in 37 states and in Japan, Canada, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Australia.

 

Eckerd Drug (727-385-6000) opened two drug stores in FL: an 11,200 sq.ft. freestanding facility at the northwest corner of Shenandoah and 136th Avenue in Davie, and an 11,200 sq.ft. freestanding facility at the intersection of A1A and Saxon Drive in Smyrna Beach, FL. Additionally, the company has plans for seven openings in FL by November of this year, in the cities of Bradenton, Holly Hill, Clearwater, Tampa, Ft. Myers, Port Charlotte and Plant City, and one opening in Woodstock in GA by during July of this year.

 

Nesco, Inc. (800-328-8335) plans to open 30 Conoco-branded convenience stores in TX during the coming three years.

 

Ruby Tuesday (865-379-5700) will open a 5,600 sq.ft. bar and grill-style restaurant at the intersection of Galleria and Dave Lyle Boulevards in Rock Hill, SC. The restaurant will be located in front of Hardees and is slated to open in November of this year. Originally, the company planned to open a restaurant in Manchester Village at the intersection of Dave Lyle Boulevard and Interstate 77, but disagreements with developers over signage and other site-related issues caused the company to pull out of the deal.

 

R.A. Popp Enterprises (402-679-7196) plans to open a European-style restaurant in One Pacific Plaza shopping center in Omaha, NE during May of this year. The founder of R.A. Popp Enterprises is also a co-founder of the Garden Cafe chain. The company plans to open more restaurants in the Omaha market.

 

Kindercare Learning Center (503-872-1300) plans to open a creative learning and development pre-school location in Pembroke Pines, FL next month.

 

Borders Books and Music (734-477-1100) plans to open a 25,000 sq.ft. store at the Chapel Hill shopping center located at the intersection of West Interstate 30 and South Hulen Street in Fort Worth, TX. The store, which will join a Central Market and a 70,000 sq.ft. H.E. Butt Grocery, Co. supermarket-hybrid anchor store, is expected to open during September of this year. The new store will be less than four miles from the company’s only other Tarrant County store, a 29,000 sq.ft. location on South Hulen near Interstate 20.

 

Boscov’s (610-779-2000) plans to open its first department store in CT at Brass Mill Center, a one million sq.ft. mall in Waterbury, CT. The store, which will occupy the final anchor position at the mall, is scheduled to open during November of this year.
