Whos Opening & WhereRuby Tuesdays (334-665-6000) will break ground on a 5,600 sq.ft. restaurant at Monks Corner, a 10-acre commercial tract at the intersection of College Road and Market Street in Wilmington, NC during May 2000. A February 2001 opening is planned.
Walgreens (847-940-2500) recently opened a 15,120 sq.ft. pharmacy on the southwest corner of Collins Street and Cass Avenue in Joliet, IL. The company plans to open a 15,000 sq.ft. pharmacy in a former First United Bank at the corner of Union and Platte Avenues in Colorado Springs, CO. The company has submitted a site plan for a 15,120 sq.ft. store at the southwest corner of North Main Street and Westchester Drive in New Orleans, LA. The building is presently occupied by Taco Time and Twin Oaks Car Wash. The company has also submitted site plans for a 13,650 sq.ft. store at the intersection of Windsor Spring Road and the Bobby Jones Expressway in Augusta, GA.
Kohls (414-703-7000) plans to open as many as 12 stores in the metro Atlanta, GA area during 2001. The 260-unit general merchandise chain presently has no stores in the market, but at least one planned store has been confirmed at Conyers Crossroads at Interstate 20 and Dogwood Road in Rockdale. The company is still seeking a location in the region for its planned 87,000 sq.ft. prototype store. The company is also planning 11 openings in northern NJ. The stores join six other Kohls locations in NJ, but represent the companys first foray into the northern NJ market. The openings are part of the companys expansion plans which, when complete, will result in as many as 60 openings, bringing the companys total store count to 315.
Rooneys Public House (561-833-7802) plans to open its third Irish Pub in Palm Beach County in Abacoa Town Center, a 92,000 sq.ft. shopping center. The company leased a 2,785 sq.ft. space in the 90% occupied Phase I.
Redbone Alley (843-673-0035) plans to open its third restaurant in Sumter, SC during July of this year. The unit will be a prototype for the chains expansion plans. Redbone Alley will open five additional restaurants in SC and launch plans to expand throughout the southeast.
U.S Factory Outlet (212-563-3650) plans to open a 23,000 sq.ft. store to anchor the Ozark Center Point Place, a 265,000 sq.ft. center in Springdale, AR.
Tandy Inc. (817-415-3224) recently opened a new concept store, Radioshack.com., in Denver, CO. The store, which launches the concept line, will occupy 20,000 sq.ft. in a former Tech America store and is designed to match the design and feel of the companys Web site.
Nordstrom, Inc. (216-628-2111) is looking into opening a store in the Louisville, KY area. The company, which is presently involved in negotiations to sign a letter of intent in the region, has identified Oxmoor Center as a possible site. The company also plans to open a 36,000 sq.ft. store in Troy, MI during July of this year. The store will represent the companys first location in the MI market.
Old Navy (650-952-4400) plans to open a 23,000 sq.ft. store at Lynnhaven Mall in Norfolk, VA. The store will be the companys third in the Norfolk area.
Circuit City (804-527-4000) plans to open two appliance-only stores in Richmond, VA and as many as six new concept stores in FL by the holiday season of 2000. The new concept stores will focus solely on consumer electronics, particularly digital merchandise, and will no longer offer appliances.
Lowes (336-658-4000) is planning a December 2000 opening for its second home improvement store in the Kansas City, MO market. The 115,000 sq.ft. store will include a 30,000 sq.ft. home and garden center. The company also plans to open at a proposed shopping center on the southwest corner of County Road 220 and Towncenter Boulevard in New Clay County, FL.
Home Depot (770-433-8211) plans to open a 117,000 sq.ft. superstore with a 19,000 sq.ft. garden center in Eugene, OR, its second in the area. The store will be built on a 10.5-acre site where the Strike Fore driving range and batting cages facility now stands. The opening is contingent upon a city site-review.
China Shop (203-573-1271) plans to open an upscale kitchen and housewares shop at the one million sq.ft. Brass Mill Center in Waterbury, CT. Boscovs recently leased the final available anchor space at the center, which also houses anchors Sears, JC Penney and Filenes.
Wal*Mart (501-273-4000) plans to open a supercenter on a 47-acre site on the west side of U.S. Highway 45 in Savoy, IL. The plan is contingent upon the rezoning of the site.
Food Lion (206-628-2111) will open a 38,000 sq.ft. supermarket at the 40,000 sq.ft. Oceanway Village Shopping Center at the intersection of New Berlin and Pulaski Roads in Jacksonville, FL. The Rosen Group, which owns the center, anticipates an opening during the first quarter of 2001.
Borders Books and Music (734-477-1100) plans a Fall 200 opening for a 35,000 sq.ft. flagship store at Hamilton Square in Washington, D.C.
United Parcel Service (800-742-5877) is planning to open 12 package delivery and business services stores during this year. The first store, a prototype, recently opened in Alpharetta, GA. The stores are the companys first retail outlets and will offer copying and faxing services, conference rooms, remote mailboxes and a 24-hour vestibule in addition to its traditional package delivery service. |
