Closings

Wolf Camera (678-297-9653) recently closed about 80 stores, mostly CPI/Fox Photo locations originally purchased by the company in 1998. Most of the stores were unprofitable or smaller stores located in the northeastern and midwestern U.S.

Frank’s Nursery & Crafts (248-712-7000) plans to close two South Bend, IN stores among the total of 42 stores the company plans to shutter during the first quarter of 2001. The underperforming stores span 11 states. All told the company operates 261 stores in 15 states.

J.C. Penney (972-431-1000) continues to institute its plan to close a number of stores including a 95,000 sq.ft. unit at the Crossroads Mall located in Boulder, CO. However, company officials say the Boulder closure is unrelated to the larger plan and will occur due to lagging sales. Closure is expected during February 2001. The company will close 40 other units nationwide in the coming months.

Dillard’s (501-376-5200) plans to close its store at Villa Italia Mall, a shopping center located at the intersection of East Alameda Avenue and South Wadsworth Boulevard in Denver, CO. The company still operates 12 units in the state of CO including seven in the metro Denver market.
