Payless Cashways Inc. (816-347-6630) will close the store at 4365 Winchester Avenue in Winchester, TN. The closing is one of 22 that the company plans as to reorganize to compete for more professional contractors business.

Stambaugh’s (330-781-7100) will close all of its 26 units due to the company’s bankruptcy. The hardware chain located predominantly in Northeast OH had opened three of eight planned stores before declaring bankruptcy.

Ames (860-257-2000) will close 32 units in their northern and midwestern markets. Six WV locations that were formally Hills Stores will be among those closed. The company will open only five stores next year.

The Wet Seal, Inc. (949-583-9029) will close 20 stores in fiscal 2001. The company trades as Contempo Casuals, Wet Seal, Arden B. and Limbo Lounge at 568 stores in 42 states.

Friendly’s Ice Cream Corporation (413-543-2400) plans to close 70 restaurants in fiscal 2001. The company operates 471 units in 17 states and holds 108 franchises.

CD Warehouse, Inc. (405-949-2422) is reviewing plans that will close under performing stores out of the 320-unit chain trading as CD Warehouse and Disc Go Round.
