Super Stop & Shop (781-380-8000) plans to open a 78,600 sq.ft. supermarket in Quincy Center Plaza, a shopping center located in Attleboro, Bristol County, MA. The company also plans to open a 56,000 sq.ft. supermarket located at the intersection of Route 5 and Whiting Farm Road in Holyoke, MA.
Target (612-304-6099) plans to open a 125,000 sq.ft. store located at the intersection of Monte Vista Avenue and Highway 99 in Turlock, CA during October 2000. The store will be outfitted with a pharmacy and an optometric center. Other CA stores slated to open during October will be located in Auburn, Costa Mesa, Van Nuys, Cerritos and Los Angeles, bringing the total number of Target stores in CA to 152.
Home Depot (770-433-8211) plans to open a 135,000 sq.ft. retail and garden center located on Long Pond Road in Plymouth, MA.
Stein Mart Inc. (904-346-1500), which has slowed its pace of growth in recent months in an attempt to improve its earnings performance, expects its rate of growth to return to normal during the Fall. The company opened only two new stores during the first quarter of 2000, but plans on a total of six openings by the end of the second quarter and as many as many as 17 units during the Fall.
Lowes (336-685-4000) plans to begin construction on a 135,000 sq.ft. home improvement center located in North Attleboro, MA this month. The company also began construction on a 135,000 sq.ft. home improvement center located in Davers, MA last month.
Walgreens (847-940-2500) plans to open a pharmacy in the Belmont section of Pueblo, CO. Originally, the site was slated to house a Rite Aid pharmacy, but Rite Aid scrapped its plans to open a store when audits reduced the companys earnings by $500 million over a three-year period, which in turn resulted in a slowing of the companys growth. Walgreens also has a store under construction just off of U.S. Highway 50 West in the area.
Dean & DeLuca (707-967-9893) has plans to open units in Miami, FL, Houston, TX and Beverly Hills, CA in the coming months on the strength of its initial public offering. The company hopes to raise $69 million from the IPO, which the company hopes to use not only to finance expansion but also the growth of its Web site, which houses its online catalog.
Old Navy (650-952-4400) plans to open a 30,000 sq.ft. store in Carys Crossroad Plaza, a 675,000 sq.ft. shopping center in Caty, NC. The unit will occupy part of a space formerly housing a 54,000 sq.ft. Uptons, which closed its doors at the shopping center last Fall. The company also plans to open a 20,100 sq.ft. store at Northgate Mall Q in nearby Durham, NC during September 2000. Best Buy (612-995-7049) plans to open a 45,000 sq.ft. store at the center during August in part of a space formerly housing a 60,000 sq.ft. Phar-Mor.
Longs Drugs (925-937-1170) plans to open 26 stores during 2000.
Ross-Simons opened a 7,000 sq.ft. store at Northbrook Court in Chicago, IL. The fine jewelry, tableware and fine collectibles retailer does the majority of its business by catalog and Web site sales. The company, which now operates 10 stores, plans to open its 11th store in Tysons Corner, VA during July 2000.
Neiman Marcus (214-761-2300) plans to open a department store at a planned shopping mall in southwest Orlando, FL during the coming months.
