Closings

Vista Eyecare closed 91 stores as part of a Chapter 11 reorganization in recent months. The closings were concentrated in the western U.S. and central FL. Originally, the chain planned to close only 37 stores, but upped the number by 54 when the latter stores were judged to be too unprofitable.

Rite Aid (717-761-2633) plans to close a 6,000 sq.ft. unit on South George Street in Camp Hill, PA during July of this year. The store, which is closing due to underperformance, is smaller than the company’s prototype 11,000 sq.ft. drug stores. The company will continue to operate its other facility in the area, located on West Market Street in Camp Hill.

Wal*Mart (501-273-4000) plans to close a store located at the intersection of Colonial Drive and Pine Hills Road in Pine Hills, FL during the coming year. The company does plan to open a replacement superstore in the MetroWest area three miles away with nearly twice the square footage of the closing store in the near future.
