ClosingsJubilee Food Store (405-840-7200) recently closed a store in State College, PA. The 46,350 sq.ft. grocery store, located in Hills Plaza, will remain closed after a federal court ruled that Fleming, Co., parent company of Jubilee, does not have to reopen the store. The landlord of Hills Plaza, Canadian Pacific Realty Corp., sought a temporary injunction to keep the store open. The closing is part of Fleming, Co.s larger plan to phase out its grocery stores in MD, NY and PA. Aisle 3 (617-357-2400), the eight-unit discount-chain subsidiary of Filenes Basement Corp., will close its eight stores as part of a purchase agreement for Filenes with Base Acquisition Corp., a subsidiary of Value City department stores. Filenes has been reorganizing under bankruptcy protection since August of last year. Base Acquisition Corp. has agreed to purchase Filenes assets and certain liabilities, but will not operate any of the eight Aisle 3 locations. Uptons (212-794-5300) recently closed its 12 locations in the metro Atlanta area. American Retail Group Inc., the parent company of Uptons, announced plans last July to close all 75 Uptons locations in the U.S. Newmark Retail Financial Advisors is assisting with the liquidation of assets. uuu Chi-Chis (888-374-3746) restaurant plans to close its remaining two sites in Buffalo, NY by early next month. Prandium, Inc. previously closed a third Chi-Chis location in the area last October. Slow sales were cited as the reason for closure.
