Anchors include Kohls, Old Navy, Michaels, Staples, Carmike Theaters and Circuit City. Other tenants include Clothestime, Powertel, Red Lobster and On The Border. Mid-Atlantic Realty Trust recently broke ground on Waverly Woods Village Center, a 110,000 sq.ft. strip center located at the intersection of Interstate 70 and Marriottsville Road in Howard County, MD. A 53,000 sq.ft. Weis Markets is the anchor. The center is 70% leased, with other tenants including Enchanted Child Care, Mangia Market and Eatery, Inc., Farmers & Mechanics National Bank, Your Wine & Spirits Shoppe, Shear Brothers Hair Salon and a dry cleaners. The Ainbinder Company plans to build RiverPark, a 325,000 sq.ft. shopping center in two phases at the northeast corner of Highway 59 and Grand Parkway in Fort Bend, TX. A 65,000 sq.ft. Albertsons will anchor Phase I, on which construction will commence during Fall 2000. Other Phase I tenants are expected to include restaurants and a national chain drug store. Phase II construction is expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2000, and negotiations are under way to bring several big-box retailers to the center.

Brock Development Corp. broke ground last month on Northmil Plaza, a 90,415 sq.ft. shopping center at the intersection of Military Trail and Northlake Boulevard in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Albertsons will anchor the center, which is slated for a December 2000 opening. Demographics include a population of 124,300 residing within five miles earning $52,600 as the average household income. The Gardens Mall operates nearby. The market and asking rent is $18 psf. JMB Realty Corp. reached an agreement with city government officials for the development of a proposed $250 million mixed-use specialty center on Block 37 in Chicago, IL. D.J. Maltese Co. Inc. has submitted a proposal to the West Dearborn Downtown Development Authority to build a 150,000 sq.ft. entertainment center on Michigan Avenue at Howard in Dearborn, MI. Another developer, Burton-Katzman, has also submitted a proposal which calls for a 115,000 sq.ft. mixed-use center including 40,000 sq.ft. to retail space. JDN Realty plans to break ground on The Power Plant of Hampton Roads, a 107-acre industrial-themed shopping center at the intersection of Interstate 64 and Mercury Boulevard in Hampton, VA during June 2000. Cordish Co. and Washington Sports Entertainment LP have entered into a joint venture to develop Capital Centre, a 745,000 sq.ft. mixed-use center on 76 acres in Landover, MD. A Spring 2003 opening is planned. The center is situated on five city blocks and will have 6,500 parking spaces. Anchor tenants include a 16-screen Magic Johnson Theater. The partners will pay a base annual rent of $90,000 to the county. The agreement calls for at least 25% of the design, construction, development and ongoing operations to go to minority business enterprises.
