Aston Properties has entered into a joint venture with 1st Carolina Properties to develop Shallotte Crossing, a 267,000 sq.ft. project to be opened in phases between March and November of 2001 in Shallotte, NC. The shopping center, which is located at the intersection of Holden Beach Road and U.S. Highway 17 Business, will be anchored by a 108,000 sq.ft. Home Depot and 48,500 sq.ft. Belk Department Store. The Sembler Company broke ground on two strip center projects in Brevard County FL. The first is Publix at Cocoa Commons, a 74,700 sq.ft. shopping center anchored by a 51,000 sq.ft. Publix, located on the southwest corner of State Road 524/528 in Cocoa, FL. Four outparcels are available for sale. A July 2001 opening is scheduled. The company is also developing Publix at Bayside Lakes, a 65,000 sq.ft. shopping center located on a 15-acre tract in the Bayside Lakes development at the northwest corner of Eldron and Bayside Lakes Boulevard in Palm Bay. The center is anchored by Publix and is expected to open during July 2001.

Sigma National plans to break ground on Phase II of Commonwealth Centre, a 270,000 sq.ft. shopping center located at the southwest corner of Hull Street and Route 288 on Commonwealth Parkway in Richmond, VA. The center will be anchored by two fashion tenants, a book superstore, and a craft superstore. The 400,000 sq.ft. Phase I of Commonwealth Centre operates across the street, and is anchored by Target, Kohl’s, OfficeMax, HomePlace and Consolidated Theaters.

Schwarz Properties plans to develop a neighborhood shopping center on a two-acre tract located on the 10000 block of Main Street in Archdale, NC. The site sits between Interstate 85 and Business Loop Interstate 85, near Splish Splash Car Wash and New Covenant Church. The center will consist of three buildings constructed in a horseshoe pattern facing Main Street. The developers are seeking eight to 10 tenants for two of the buildings and eight for the third.

Starwood-Ceruzzi LLC plans to build a 388,437 sq.ft. shopping center on the former site of Naugatuck Valley Mall located at the intersection of Wolcott Street and Lakewood Road in Waterbury, CT. Proposed tenants include Home Depot, Super Stop & Shop and Linens n’ Things. Site plans also call for two freestanding restaurants and spots for several smaller retailers. Space is available. The center is slated for development in two phases, with the supermarket sitting in-line near Holiday Cinema 10 in Phase I, and the home improvement center occupying a large space in the second phase.

Glimcher Realty Trust announced the formation of Polaris Mall LLC, a joint venture of GRT for the formation of Polaris Fashion Place, a 1.4 million sq.ft., 146-acre upscale fashion mall to be constructed in Columbus, OH. Anchors include a 200,000 sq.ft. Kaufmann’s, a 120,000 sq.ft. Lord & Taylor, a 140,000 sq.ft. JC Penney, a 180,000 sq.ft. Lazarus, a 100,000 sq.ft. Saks Fifth Avenue and a 180,000 sq.ft. Sears. A Fall 2001 opening is planned. Space is available. Approximately 400,000 sq.ft. of mall shops will be developed and leased by Glimcher to include as many as 150 specialty stores and fine dining restaurants.
