Who’s Opening & Where


Jared The Galleria of Jewelry (800-877-8122) plans to open a unit on Leesburg Pike in Tysons Corner, VA and on the entry mall pad at Dulles Towne Center in Sterling, VA. Upon opening, the company will operate two units in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The company plans to open five to seven additional stores in the area in the coming few years.

 

Brumbaugh’s Leather Gallery (817-624-4123) plans to open a 50,000 sq.ft. store off of Highway 80 West and Linkcrest Drive in the Lost Creek subdivision of Tarrant County, TX. The company plans to open the unit during December 2000. At present, the chain consists of a 12,400 sq.ft. store on Highway 80 West and a 6,000 sq.ft. showroom in Stockyards Station in Fort Worth’s stockyards district.

 

Ulta (713-722-0542) opened four stores last month in the Philadelphia, PA metropolitan region as part of a plan to open 10 stores in the coming few months. The company opened units in Willow Grove, PA, Montgomeryville, PA, Deptford Township, NJ and on Concord Pike in DE. Additionally, Famous Footwear plan to double the number of units they operate in the Greater Philadelphia area from 26 to 52, while doubling the size of the stores.

 

Charming Shoppes, Inc. (215-638-6909) plans to open five to six Catherine stores and as many as five Added Dimensions annually in the Philadelphia, PA metropolitan area. Both brands serve the plus-size apparel market. Kid Spot, which is the former House of Bargains, hopes to add five to seven units in the region by year’s end; Hallmark Cards plans a dozen openings for its card stores and three openings of its larger Creations stores in the area in the coming months.

 

Buca di Beppo (949-833-7590) opened the chain’s 50th restaurant, and its 16th this year, in Santa Monica, CA. Its 17th opening of the year was slated to occur this month in Irvine, CA.

 

Dick’s Sporting Goods (412-809-0100) plans to open a store in a shopping center being developed near Virginia Center Commons in Richmond, VA, and another unit to be located in Short Pump, VA during 2001.

 

HomeBase (310-207-9300) held the grand opening for five new concept House2Home decorating superstores last month. The pilot program represents the company’s initial entry into the home furnishings market. The 100,000 sq.ft. + stores, offering a variety of home decor products at value prices, opened in Foothill Ranch, Murrietta and Palm Desert, CA; and Las Vegas and Henderson, NV. If the pilot program is successful, the concept could be a growth vehicle for the company.

 

Lowe’s (336-658-4000) filed site plans for a proposed 115,000 sq.ft. store located at the intersection of Rufe Snow Drive and North Tarrant Parkway in Keller, TX. The store will sit on a 17-acre tract on the intersection’s southwest corner. If approved, the store will sit just north of the recently-built 43,000 sq.ft. Wal*Mart Neighborhood Market.

 

S&K Famous Brands (804-346-2500) plans to open 15 units during 2001, while it also intends to close 15 underperforming units.

 

Bob Evans Farms, Inc. (614-492-4941) plans to open 30 stores during its fiscal year 2001, mostly during the second half of the year.

 

Casual Cafe Concepts (212-983-7474) plans to launch a new fast-causal dining concept, Muchelino’s, debuting November 2000. The cafe-style restaurants will feature non-traditional kitchens and low equipment costs. The company is franchising.
