Who’s Opening & Where


Dick’s Clothing & Sporting Goods (804-320-6100) opened a 45,000 sq.ft. store last month located at Chesterfield Plaza in Richmond, VA. The company is also building a unit in North Richmond that will open at the Creeks at Virginia Center Commons. Sigma Nation, Inc. is representing the company in VA.

 

Burlington Coat Factory (609-387-7800) plans to open an 81,000 sq.ft. store in the space formerly occupied by Sam’s Club located at Wilshire Plaza on Grape Road in Mishwaka, IN this month. Sam’s Club moved its store to the Wal*Mart Supercenter located on Indian Ridge Boulevard last summer.

 

The Cheesecake Factory (818-880-9323) plans to open 10 restaurants annually during the coming five years. The company presently operates 34 units.

 

Friendly’s (413-543-2400) has reached agreements with several franchisees to open as many as 200 franchise locations during the coming five years. Presently, the company has signed 30 franchisees which operate 105 units nationwide. Future units will occupy 4,000 sq.ft.

 

Circuit City (804-527-4000) opened a prototype for its remodeled stores of the future in Jacksonville, FL during August. The reconfigured stores no longer offer large appliances like refrigerators and stoves, but instead offer more home-office products, digital cameras and DVD products as well as video game consoles and cartridges. The company plans to open 25 units and remodel 30 existing stores by February 2001 using the Jacksonville format. The company will also build a unit across from Virginia Center Commons in Richmond, VA during 2001, and make over its location in Chesterfield Town Center by November 2001.

 

Wonderpark Family Fun Center (630-238-2200) plans to open a 21,000 sq.ft. unit in the space formerly occupied by Kohl’s at Forest Fair Mall in Cincinnati, OH. The center is anchored by Showcase Cinemas and Burlington Coat Factory, with other tenants including Media Play, Off 5th-Saks Fifth Avenue Outlet, Metropolis and Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World. The themed family entertainment center at Forest Fair Mall location will be the first of its kind in the U.S., and is slated for an August 2001 opening. The store features amusement park rides and attractions including an indoor roller coaster, interactive video and redemption games, extensive soft play areas, family dining and party packages.

 

Famous Footwear (608-829-3668) opened a 15,000 sq.ft. unit at Lennox Town Center, a 334,273 sq.ft. shopping center located at the intersection of State Route 315 and Olentangy River Road in Columbus, OH. The center is anchored by Target, AMC Theater, Staples, Barnes & Noble, Old Navy, Cost Plus World Market and Petco. The company also opened a 15,088 sq.ft. store at Easton Market, a 508,334 sq.ft. shopping center located at the intersection of Morse Crossing Road and Easton Way in Columbus, OH. The center is anchored by Kittles Furniture, Galyans, Bed, Bath & Beyond, TJ Maxx, CompUSA, PETsMART, DSW, Golfsmith, Staples, Michael’s and Old Navy. Both centers are managed by Developers Diversified Realty.

 

Eckerd Drug (727-395-6000) plans to open a unit located at the intersection of Colonial and Apopka-Vineland Road in Orlando, FL during February 2001. The freestanding facility is 11,200 sq.ft. and will feature an express one-hour photo lab and a drive-thru pharmacy. The company opened three other freestanding units this Summer in Holly Hill, FL and Plant City, FL. The Sembler Company developed all four locations, and has plans to open six additional stores in Tampa, Sanford, Arcadia, Fort Myers, Bradenton and Milton by the end of 2000.

 

Rentaway (814-455-5378) plans to open a 4,000 sq.ft. store at Lincoln Knolls Plaza, a shopping center located on Route 422 on the east side of Youngstown, OH. Anchors include IGA Supermarket and Family Dollar.

 

K&W Cafeteria (336-760-0526) opened a 10,500 sq.ft. restaurant at Parkwood Mall, a shopping center anchored by Belk’s, J.C. Penney and Sears, and located in Wilson, NC. The company closed its older store in the mall and relocated to a space adjacent to Belk’s and which comes equipped with an outside entrance.

 

Contemporary Child Care and Learning Center plans to open a 2,733 sq.ft. store at Cedarbrook Plaza, a regional shopping center anchored by Big Kmart, Pathmark, Toys ‘R Us, Modell’s Sporting Goods and Frank’s Nursery and Crafts located at the intersection of Cheltenham Avenue and Easton Road in Wyncote, PA.

 

Baker Odds&Ends, (616-361-7321) a Baker Furniture outlet store, recently opened a 3,200 sq.ft. showroom located on South Peoria Avenue in Tulsa, OK.

 

World Market (510-893-7300) opened two 16,000 sq.ft. stores in Charlotte, NC last month, one at Target Plaza located on University City Boulevard and another in Carolina Pavilion located on South Boulevard. The openings brings the company’s store count to 199 chain-wide.

 

Papaya Clothing Company, Chloe and Automates each opened units last month at Puente Hills Mall, a 1.2 million sq.ft. entertainment center located off of the 60 Freeway at the Azusa Avenue Exit in City of Industry, CA.
