Whos Opening and WhereGolden Corral (919-781-9310) announced long-term expansion plans to open a total of 40 restaurants through 2007. The company has opened six restaurants so far this year.
Food Lion (704-633-8250) opened a 38,000 sq.ft. supermarket at Citadel Crossing, a 61,000 sq.ft. shopping center located on Savannah Highway just south of Interstate 526 in West Ashley, SC last month. The center can be expanded by 25,000 sq.ft. depending on demand. Other tenants at the center include One Price Clothing Outlet, a check-cashing store, a consignment store and a Chinese restaurant, each of which is slated to open in the coming few months.
Sav-On (714-739-6738) plans to build an 11,500 sq.ft. drugstore at a site formerly housing Clearmans North Woods Inn located on East Second Street in Belmont Shore, CA. Site plans call for the demolition of the existing building and the construction of a 9,000 sq.ft. first floor beneath a 2,500 sq.ft. mezzanine.
Home Depot (770-433-8211) announced plans to double its number of stores operating throughout the Indianapolis, IN market by 2004. Lowes and Menards have been buying up property in the same market in an attempt not to be outpositioned by the expanding home improvement company.
Krispy Kreme (336-725-2981) opened six locations during its second quarter of fiscal year 2001, which ended in July 2000. The company has also opened another unit in Houston, TX in its third quarter, and has raised the projected number of total openings for fiscal year 2001. The company also plans to open 32 locations during fiscal year 2002.
Hollywood Video (503-570-1600) recently opened what is believed to be the nations largest video store, located on 40th Street Northwest in Washington, D.C. The companys units average 7,000 sq.ft. and typically carry 12,000 videocassetts, while the Washington D.C. location carries 54,000 titles.
Famous Daves (312-573-2070) announced that it had reached multi-unit development commitments for the opening of 12 franchise units in AZ, CO, IA, IL, NE, ND and SD. Three of the units are slated for development by D.T.S.F. LLC in ND, Las Vegas, NV and SD. Another will be opened by a consortium of partners, including the owner of Round Barn Steakhouse, at the site currently housing Round Barn Steakhouse located at the intersection of Springfield and Mattis in Champaign, IL. The unit is slated for a November 2000 opening. In addition to the franchise openings, the company plans to open four-corporate-operated stores during the reaminder of 2000.
Cutter & Buck (206-622-4191) plans to open two leisure-wear stores, one located at The Palladium in West Palm Beach, FL and another at the Gardens in El Paso in Palm Desert, CA.
Raleys (916-376-6900) will open a 60,000 sq.ft. supermarket at Park Place a 103,500 sq.ft. specialty center located at the northeast corner of Del Paso Road Natomas Boulevard in Sacramento, CA. The center is slated for an opening during the fourth quarter of 2001. Donahue Shribner is developing the center.
Bed, Bath & Beyond (908-688-0888) plans to open a 35,000 sq.ft. unit at the 85,000 sq.ft extention to Bradley Fair, located at the south end of Bradley Fair Parkway in Wichita, KS. Other tenants slated to open at the center in the coming weeks include Randy Coopers Fine Jewelry, The Gap, Gap Kids, Baby Gap, Gap Body, Trios and Cibola restaurant.
Target (612-304-6099) plans to open a 135,000 sq.ft. SuperTarget at Manchester Village, a 300,000 sq.ft., 165-acre project located at the intersection of Dave Lyle Boulevard and Interstate 77 in Rock Hill, SC. The plan is contingent upon fulfillment of the permitting process.
Menards (715-876-2077) plans to open a 161,640 sq.ft. store located just south and west of the intersection of Main Street and Highway 135 in Eau Claire, WI. The opening is contingent upon the city approving the companys request to rezone and annex a 34-acre site where they intend to construct the store, which would be bound on the west by an apartment subdivision, on the north by Meijer and on the east by a row of business including True Value Hardware and Dairy Queen. Groundbreaking is scheduled to begin during Spring 2001.
Albertsons (714-739-6738) plans to open a 45,000 sq.ft. supermarket located adjacent to the Broad Street Fire Station in Boise, ID.
Goodys (865-966-200) plans to open 30 stores during its current fiscal year, including two locations in Chattanooga, TN and one in Fort Oglethorpe, TN. Both stores are slated for a November opening. Additionally, a 37,000 sq.ft. store currently under construction at Eastgate Town Center in Brainerd, TN is slated for an opening during November.
Chipotle Mexican Grill (303-595-4000) opened a restaurant in the space formerly occupied by Hibbard & Co. department store located on South Tejon Street in Colorado Springs, CO this month. The Mexican food restaurant has remodeled a quarter of the ground floor.
