ClosingsDolly Madison Dairy Stores (303-355-1668) closed six of its eight retail locations in CO. The company will concentrate on its wholesale business, but its outlet store inside the manufacturing facility will remain open.
Books-A-Million (205-942-3737) closed its 16,000 sq.ft. store on Apalachee Parkway in Tallahassee, FL. The companys will keep its Thomasville Road location open.
Computer Town (603-894-0500) has closed stores in Nashua, NH and Brookline, MA. The Mac computer retailer operates four stores in AZ, MA and NH.
National Record Mart (412-276-6200) trading as Vibes Music will close its Lawrence, KS location. The company operates over 170 stores in five concepts nationwide.
Childtime Learning Centers (248-476-3200) will close its Oxford Learning Centers of America concept. The 10 locations were determined not to be economically viable.
Krauses Custom Crafted Furniture (909-418-2240) will close its six Chicago, IL-area stores by the end of the year. The stores are located in Arlington Heights, downtown Chicago, Crystal Lake, Downers Grove, Orland Park and Skokie. CB Richard Ellis handles the 90-unit chains real estate and Edgemark LLC (630-472-1010) is seeking sublessors on the six sites. Krauses Furniture c/o CB Richard Ellis will close its location at Bakersfield Plaza in Bakersfield, CA.
Sonnys Family Foods closed its 16,800 sq.ft. Churchill Shopping Center location in Eugene, OR. The company will continue to operate the 13th Avenue location. Johnston Commercial Real Estate (541-686-8580) is leasing the inline space for center-owner Peter Kryl.
Fas Mart Convenience Stores, Inc. (800-621-1013) filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Richmond, VA. The 170-unit chain trades as Fas Mart in VA and as Shore Stop in DE, MD and along the coast of VA. All stores will remain open in the initial phase of the filing.
Natural Wonders (510-252-6600) will close all 237 of its stores. The company has been under chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since December 2000. The stores in the Norfolk, VA area, located at MacArthur Center and Lynnhaven Mall are expected to close in June. DJM Asset Management will handle the disposition of leases.
PawnMart (817-569-9305) will close 15 stores to improve the companys cash flow. The 45-unit chain sold two stores in Fort Worth, TX and another in Weatherford, TX. The other closures will take place in AL, GA, NC and SC.
Verizon PhoneMart (717-767-8931) will close its West Manchester Mall location by the end of May.
Edmund Scientific (800-363-1992) closed its 8,000 sq.ft. store in Barrington, PA. The company closed its outlet and sold its catalog operation to Science Kit & Boreal Laboratories to concentrate on business-to-business sales.
Edwards Theaters Circuit Inc. (949-640-4600) closed its Cinema Center 4 at the Mesa Verde Center in Costa Mesa, CA. The company has closed two theaters since filing for bankruptcy protection in August.
Furrs Supermarkets (505-998-3877) has retained Peter J. Solomon Company to assist with financial advisory and valuation services for the 71-unit chain. The company filed for chapter 11 protection in February, but has yet to close any locations.
Finish Line (317-899-1022) will close 17 locations, four units were closed last month and 13 will be closed by the end of the fiscal year. The 436-unit chain made the decision based on inventory markdowns. The company has scaled back its expansion plans and expects to open 25 units in 2002.
Vons (626-821-7060) will close its location at Bakersfield Plaza in Bakersfield, CA, moving into a former Save-Mart Supermarket location at the intersection of California Avenue and Stockdale Highway. Vons will look to sublet its space at Bakersfield Plaza.
Stars Bar & Dining (415-861-7827) closed its location at Pacific Place in Seattle, WA. The downtown center has lost five tenants in the past 12 months.
Stage Stores (713-218-4444) closed its Monticello, IL store. The company has been closing 121 stores to increase profitability. The company will focus on stores in TX, OK, LA, AR and MO.
Shaws Supermarkets (508-894-7000) closed its location on Route 1 in Waterford, CT. The 165-unit chain is closing only its third store in the companys history.
Brunos Supermarkets (205-940-9400) closed its Phenix City, AL FoodMax grocery store. The company operates 150 stores under the names Food World, FoodMax, Food Fair and Brunos in AL, FL, GA and MS.
