Dillard’s (501-376-5200) will close two stores in 2001. The company closed nine locations in 2000 and operates 350 stores nationwide.

 

United Retail Group (201-909-2192) plans to close approximately 25 AVENUE stores in fiscal 2001. The company closed 32 of its smaller stores in fiscal 2000 and operates 523 stores nationwide.

 

Drug Emporium (740-548-7080) entered an agreement with Snyder’s Drug Stores, Inc. (952-935-5441) for Snyder’s to take 100% equity ownership of Drug Emporium. The deal is through a pre-negotiated chapter 11 filing by Drug Emporium. The plan includes the sale of 16 Drug Emporium stores in the Atlanta, GA market to CVS Pharmacy. Twenty CA stores and certain other locations are also being sold but Snyder’s will operate a majority of Drug Emporium’s stores.

 

Laundrymart, Inc. trading as Lucy’s Laundromat (310-378-2620 ext. 23) has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Los Angeles, CA. The five-unit chain operates locations throughout CA.
