OpeningsBorders Books and Music (734-477-1100) will open a 22,077 sq.ft. store at The Cannery Mall located on Ninth Street in Corvallis, OR. The company operates 1,235 locations under the trade names Borders, Waldenbooks and Books Etc.
Wal*Mart (501-273-4000) will open two stores in ID. Construction will begin this summer on a 220,000 sq.ft. store located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 95 and Aqua Avenue in Coeur d’Alene, ID. The store is scheduled to open spring 2002. A 184,000 sq.ft. store is under construction just nine miles away to be located on Mullan Avenue near Interstate 90 in Post Falls, ID. The store will open early next year. The company will open a 173,000 sq.ft. superstore at Delavan Crossings in Delavan, WI. The store will anchor the center that will also be tenanted by an 83,000 sq.ft. Kohl’s department store. Both stores are scheduled to open in late 2002. The company operates 2,600 locations nationwide and plans to open 250 units in 2001. The company plans a 152,261 sq.ft. Sam’s Club discount warehouse with gas pumps on the site of the former Breuner’s Home Furnishings store in Stockton, CA. The plan would also include the demolition of the Regency Cinemas 4, a row of offices and the Kazan Japanese and Vincenzo’s restaurants. The company operates 470 warehouse-style locations nationwide.
Bombay Company (817-870-1847) opened a Bombay Outlet at the Prime Outlets of Gaffney in Gaffney, SC. A 13,000 sq.ft. Pottery Barn and a Bath and Body Works will open soon at the center.
Vix Deep Discount Drugstores (740-548-7080) will remain open in the Rochester and Buffalo, NY markets through the sale of its parent company, Drug Emporium, to Snyder’s Drug Stores (952-935-5441). The company operates 12 stores in NY.
EatZi’s Market and Bakery (972-770-9445) will open a restaurant at Southlake Town Square in Southlake, TX. Nick & Sam’s Steakhouse and Barnes & Noble Bookstore will also open at the 130-acre mixed use center. The center’s retail space is now fully occupied. EatZi’s is considering expanding to the following areas in TX: Colleyville, University Park Village in Fort Worth, the Urban Center in Las Colinas, Plano, north Dallas and the Lakewood area.
Emporium (541-746-9611) will open a 24,000 sq.ft. store at Ochoco Plaza Shopping Center in Prineville, OR. The location will open on the site of the former Prineville Hardware store. Elder-Beerman (937-296-2805) plans five concept store openings in 2001. The company operates department stores throughout the midwest.
Walgreens (847-940-2500) opened 238 stores in the first half of fiscal 2001. The drugstore chain plans 20 stores in northern CA in 2001 and has six under construction in West Sacramento, Elk Grove, Folsom and Granite Bay, CA. The company plans 500 new locations by the end of the fiscal year and is on track to operate 6,000 stores by 2010.
Wingstop Restaurants, Inc. (972-686-6500) will open four locations in the Denver, CO market. The first unit will be located at Lakewood Crossing Shopping Center in Lakewood, CO and will open in June. Quine & Associates (972-669-8440) is the exclusive leasing agent for the company in the Denver area.
Rave Motion Picture Theaters (972-692-1700) will open a 79,000 sq.ft. theater at Jefferson Pointe Shopping Center in Fort Wayne, IN. The 625,000 sq.ft. center will be anchored by Von Maur department store. Rave operates locations in TX and AL and is planning two openings in FL.
Barnes & Noble, Inc. (212-633-3300) will open a 26,000 sq.ft. location on West Kimberly Road in Davenport, IA. The company operates 933 units under the brand names Barnes & Noble, Schribners and Dalton’s.
Books-A-Million (205-942-3737) will open five stores and eight Joe Muggs Newstands in fiscal 2002. The company will also convert 18 Crown Books stores into Books-A-Million units. The company operates 202 locations in 18 states.
Storage USA (901-252-2000) will open a 79,300 sq.ft. self-storage facility located on North Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago, IL. The site is located across from the River Run Shopping Center and is the company’s eighth location in the Chicago market. The company operates 533 locations in 31 states.
Home Depot (770-433-8211) will open a 145,000 sq.ft. store located at the intersection of Jones Loop Road and Glasgow Avenue in Punta Gorda, FL. The company operates 1,158 locations nationwide.
A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts (856-228-6700) plans 22 new locations within a 500-mile radius of NJ by the end of 2002. The company opened 10 stores in 2000. The company operates 41 stores in the eastern states.
ZAPWORLD.com (707-824-4150) has entered a joint agreement with Donner Corporation to open a ZAPWORLD store is southern CA. The store will sell and rent ZAP electric vehicles.
Macerich Company (310-394-6000) is talking to both Target and Wal*Mart about opening one of either companies’ super format store at Crossroads Mall in Boulder, CO. The new stores would mean the demolition of the former JC Penney store.
Hennes and Mauritz (212-489-8777) opened a 30,000 sq.ft. H&M store at Brass Mill Center in Waterbury, CT. The Swedish apparel retailer plans to open 75 locations throughout the northeast this year. The company operates 633 stores worldwide.
Discount Auto Parts, Inc. (941-687-9226) will open 35 stores in fiscal 2001. The company opened 26 units in 2000 and operates 665 locations.
OneWorld2U.com (866-708-0055) opened a temporary furniture showroom at the Dolphin Mall in West Miami-Dade, FL. The company will open a showroom in early May at Union Station in St. Louis, MO. The internet company operates temporary locations and encourages customers to use the web site for purchases.
Chick-Fil-A (404-765-8000) opened three freestanding locations in the Richmond, VA market. The units are located on Hull Street, at Chesterfield Towne Center and at Virginia Center Commons. The company plans four to six locations in the market. The company operates 737 fast-food units nationwide.
Christoher & Banks (763-551-5000) will open 80 stores in 2001. Forty of those units will be under the C.J. Banks brand offering ladies apparel in sizes 14 to 24. The company plans four Christopher & Banks and seven C.J. Banks stores in the Twin Cities, MN market. The parent company, Braun Fashions, has emerged from bankruptcy protection in 1996 to operate 280 stores in 29 states.
BJ’s Wholesale Club (508-651-6100) will open a warehouse-style location in Sarasota, FL by the end of the year. The 100-plus unit chain operates in eastern FL and is looking to expand into western FL.
Publix (863-688-1188) will open a 44,000 sq.ft. store at Lakewood Ranch Gateway North shopping plaza in East Mantee, FL. The center is located at the intersection of State Road 64 and Lakewood Ranch Boulevard. The supermarket is scheduled to open in November. The company operates over 800 locations in the southeastern U.S.
Albertsons (817-568-3858) will open a 56,893 sq.ft. store at Parkwood Square Shopping Center in East Manatee, FL. The store located at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Old Tampa Road is scheduled for an October opening. The company will also open a store on Eighth Avenue in Palmetto, FL at the site of the former Mr. C’s Supermarket.
Panera Bread (314-633-7100) opened 80 stores last year, eclipsing the company’s projection of 60. The company will operate 345 locations by the end of the year.
Max & Erma Restaurants (614-431-5800) opened locations in Pittsburgh, PA; Louisville, KY and Grand Rapids, MI in the first quarter of 2001. The company will open units at the Dayton, OH International Airport and in Indianapolis, IN before the end of the year. The company signed franchise agreements to open four restaurants in the Milwaukee-Green Bay, WI area and one in Sandusky, OH. The company operates 60 locations in OH, MI, KY, IN, PA, IL, NC, GA and VA.
Sonic Corporation (405-280-7654) will open 25 locations in ID over the next five years. Expansion plans for the state of WY are also being drawn. The company operates over 2,200 units in 28 states nationwide. |
