Who's Opening & Where Midas Inc. (630-438-3000) plans to open as many as 40 Parts Warehouse Inc. stores in the second half of 2001. The automotive parts and supplies retailer opened six locations for the concept during the second quarter. The company also plans to acquire 50 Midas dealerships to be company-operated over the next few years. Discount Auto Parts (863-687-9226) plans to add 20 to 40 stores in fiscal 2002. The auto parts retailer opened 31 stores in fiscal 2001 and operates over 660 locations in the southeastern states. White House/Black Market (410-487-7747) will open stores in Dallas TX; Denver CO and Hartford CT. The high end women’s apparel retailer also plans a second store in Houston TX. The company struck a deal for a $2 million increase on a $10 million credit facility from Wells Fargo Retail Finance LLC and is applying the money toward expansion. The chain opened stores in New Orleans LA; St. Petersburg FL; Honolulu HI; Maui HI; Puerto Rico and a second store in Chicago IL over the past year.Nordstrom’s Inc. (206-373-4085) will open a 32 000 sq.ft. Nordstrom Rack location at the Villaggio Retail Center in Fresno CA. The center is located on North Blackstone Avenue and the store is scheduled to open next spring. The company plans three openings in CA this year and operates 39 Nordstrom Rack stores nationwide. A.C. Moore (856-228-6700) plans to open five stores for the remainder of the year. The company opened six stores and relocated two units in the first half of 2001. The arts and crafts supplies retailer operates 56 stores in eastern states.Uno Restaurant Corporation (617-323-9200) expects to open seven company-owned and 11 franchised operations in fiscal 2001. The company operates 182 units under the name Pizzeria Uno...Chicago Bar & Grill. The Cheesecake Factory Incorporated (310-887-0888) opened Cheesecake Factory locations in Sherman Oaks CA and King of Prussia PA during the third quarter of fiscal 2001. The company also opened a Grand Lux Cafe unit in Los Angeles CA. The company operates 46 locations nationwide for the two concepts. Damon’s International (614-442-7900) opened a Damon’s Restaurant with a new design concept in Medina OH. The unit is located on North Court Street and features an upscale dining room. The restaurants which specialize in ribs and grilled specialties have 12 locations in northeast OH and over 130 units worldwide. 99 Cents Only Stores (323-980-8145) opened a store in Bakersfield CA. The company plans to open 13 stores in the remainder of 2001. The general merchandise retailer operates 110 units in southern and central CA; Las Vegas NV; and Phoenix AZ. Ross Stores Inc. (510-505-4400) opened two stores in the Carolinas and a location in the Atlanta GA market marking the 423-unit chain’s entry into the markets. The company plans 13 Ross Dress for Less in the southeastern states by the end of the year. The apparel retailer plans 50 stores in the region by 2004.Home Depot (770-433-8211) acquired the 12.5-acre former Montgomery Wards location in Beaverton OR. The home improvement retailer will raze the building and construct a 136 000 sq.ft. store scheduled to open by 2003. Chicago Pizza & Brewery Inc . (714-848-3747) may open an 8 000 sq.ft. BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse in Lewisville TX. The site is part of a new development with visibility from Interstate 35. The company plans to open four to six locations in 2001. The restaurant chain will open units in Irvine CA and Chandler AZ by the end of October to bring the company’s total to 29 locations.
