ClosingsLoews Cineplex (212-833-6160) is denying rumors that the company will close its 72 Chicago-area screens. The company plans to close or sell 112 theaters in Canada, in the Midwest and older facilities that came with Cineplex Odeon when Loews bought it. The company is contemplating seeking bankruptcy protection.
Fabra Care (478-922-8563) closed 11 Columbus, GA-area locations after an Environmental Protection Agency lawsuit was filed involving a store in Fort Valley, GA.
Landrys of Houston (713-850-1991) trading as Rainforest Cafe closed its location at Cherry Creek Mall in Denver, CO. The company, which bought the concept in December, will also close locations in NJ and Toronto.
Safeway (425-455-6444) trading as Eagle will close its 18,000 sq.ft. store at Big Lake Mall in Wasilla, AK.
American Appliance (800-898-4677) closed six of its smaller stores in PA and NJ. The closures are in Lansdowne, Oxford Valley, York, Harrisburg and Camp Hill, PA and in Lawrenceville, NJ. The company wants to open larger stores, ranging in size from 25,000 sq.ft. to 40,000 sq.ft.
HomePlace of America, Inc. (847-480-4800) will close 38 stores as part of a voluntary reorganization in the companys chapter 11 bankruptcy. The home furnishings retailer will be left with 84 stores nationwide. Three of those closures will take place in the Akron-Canton, OH market. The Augusta Mall location in Augusta, GA will also close.
Union Trading Company (719-595-9934) closed its retail store in Pueblo, CO to concentrate on the wholesale operations of its business.
West Coast Video (215-856-2560) is closing 137 stores. The company closed nine Northern NJ locations as part of a chain-wide cost cutting effort. The store closings occurred in Ridgefield Park, Hillsdale, Fort Lee, Cliffside Park, Washington Township, Fair Lawn, Lyndhurst, Clifton and Teaneck. The company has nine locations that will remain open in Northern NJ. Other closings will take place in PA, NY, IN, KY, AR, LA, OK and TX. The company will retain between 70 and 80 stores after the closings.
PawnMart, Inc. (817-569-9305) will close and sell store locations in an attempt to improve liquidity. |
