ClosingsSideline Ventures (937-237-7957) closed the seven-screen Beaver Valley Cinemas in Beavercreek, OH. The company plans to sell the theater to Hollywood Bar & Filmworks, who plans to renovate the space into its dinner-and-a-movie concept. J.C. Penney (972-431-1000) will close its Eastland Mall store in Tulsa, OK. The store is part of a round of 47 closures. The closures will not effect the stores at Woodland Hills Mall, The Promenade in Tulsa, OK or Ne-Mar Shopping Center in Claremore, OK. One Price Clothing Stores, Inc. (864-486-6210) closed 42 low-volume One Price and More stores as part of a restructuring plan to return the 574-unit chain to profitability. Moe Ginsburg (212-242-3482), a value-priced New York mens apparel retailer, filed for bankruptcy protection. The companys Fifth Avenue location is not expected to be closed. Horizon Pharmacies, Inc. (903-465-2397) is considering chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The neighborhood drug store chain operates 46 pharmacies in 16 states. The Athletes Foot (770-514-4500) will close its Augusta West Shopping Center location. The 700-unit chain will close several freestanding company-owned stores to concentrate on franchising and smaller strip center and mall stores. Heilig-Meyers (804-784-7300) will close the last of its locations by the end of August. Two Chattanooga, TN locations, on Highway 58 and in Fort Oglethorpe, are among the last to be closed.Homeplace (847-480-4800) closed its Tampa, FL store as the company is going out of business. The company filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February and had announced the closing of 38 of its 122 stores. The entire chain will now be liquidated through the bankruptcy courts. Federated Department Stores (513-579-7666) will close two Sterns stores in NJ. The department stores at Monmouth Mall in Eatontown and the Ocean County Mall in Dover Township will be shuttered. The company is converting 18 of the 24 Sterns locations in NJ and NY to its Macys concept but the company already has Macys stores at Monmouth and Ocean County Malls. Wehrenberg Theaters Inc. (314-822-4520) closed the Frontier Village 10 Cinema in Prescott, AZ. The company has been under chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since January but will reopen the Northwest 9 Cinema at Northwest Plaza in St, Louis, MO. The company was able to renegotiate its lease at the center and the Mid Rivers Mall, both managed by Westfield America. Payless Cashways (816-347-6630) closed six stores in OH and IN. Four of the locations were in the Cincinnati, OH market, with the others in Springfield, OH and Indianapolis, IN. The home improvements retailer operates 116 stores in 17 states and has closed 57 units in the last four years. Dairy Mart Convenience Stores, Inc. (330-342-6600) plans to close or sell 200 Dairy Mart stores over the next year to reduce company debt. The convenience store chain operates 547 stores in seven states in the midstates and southeast. W. Atlee Burpee & Company (215-674-4900) may close its 14,600 sq.ft. store in the Medford Center in Medford, NJ. The seed and gardening retailer is evaluating the sales of its three outlets; Medford, NJ; Horsham, PA and Chicago, IL. |
