ClosingsLechters, Inc. (973-481-1100) filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and will close 166 stores. The company will continue to reposition its remaining 325 Lechters Housewares and Famous Brands Housewares Outlet stores under the brand name Lechter’s thinkkitchen. The company plans to have the change over to the new concept, which focuses solely on kitchen items, completed for the holiday season. One Price Clothing Stores, Inc. (864-486-6210) closed seven stores during the first quarter of 2001. The company will close 11 more locations during the coming months. The company operates 635 stores under the names One Price & More, BestPrice Fashions and BestPrice Kids. The Wet Seal, Inc. (949-699-4039) will close approximately 30 stores in fiscal 2001. The company operates 562 stores in four concepts; The Wet Seal, Arden B., Contempo Casuals and Zutopia. The company will open approximately 30 stores during the same period to maintain its total store count. Payless Cashways (816-347-6630) closed 16 stores including two stores in Louisville, KY and single stores in Colleyville, TX; Lubbock, TX; Oklahoma City, OK; Elmwood, KS; Burnsville, MN; Findlay, OH and Reno, NV. The company is repositioning its remaining 112 stores to serve professional contractors away from its former customer base of do-it-yourselfers. The Athlete’s Foot (770-514-4500) will close its Pueblo Mall location in Pueblo, CO. The company closed its freestanding location at Eagleridge Shopping Center earlier in the year. Pueblo Mall will also lose its Northern Reflections store as the chain closes all 323 of its US units. TemPo Bowl (719-475-1542) closed its only location on Eastlake Boulevard in Colorado Springs, CO. The bowling alley’s lease was up and the owner chose not to renew. |
