ClosingsRegal Cinemas (865-922-1123) will close the Movieland Theater in West Eugene, OR. Arlie & Company acquired the site and will raze the theater for a mixed-use complex.The company also closed the Southcase Cinema Seven in south Orlando, FL. The 386-unit chain has closed 40 theaters in the last six months.
Loews Cineplex Entertainment (212-833-6160) has said it will close 112 theaters with 676 screens or 25% of its theater operations. Included in the closings may be as many as 12 New York City area theaters. Smaller theaters, such as the Encore Worldwide on West 50th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, Loews State Theater at West 46th Street and Broadway and Loews Tower East at East 71st Street and Third Avenue, are being targeting.
HomePlace of America (847-480-4800) closed its store at Bridford Parkway, while the Wendover Place location will remain open in Greensboro, NC. The closings are part of a plan to shutter 38 stores after HomePlace filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company will close its Oklahoma City, OK location.
Apex (401-723-3500) will close stores in Warwick, RI and Swansea, RI and downsize its flagship Pawtucket, RI store. The regional chain cited increased competition from national retailers as reason for the closings.
Office Max (216-471-6900) is proceeding with the closure of 46 underperforming stores. The company will operate 950 locations in 49 states after the closures are complete.
Landrys Seafood Restaurants (713-850-1991) closed the Rainforest Cafe at MacArthur Center in Norfolk, VA. The 15,000 sq.ft. location may be filled by one of the companys other concepts such as Landrys Seafood House, The Crab House, Willie Gs or the Cadillac Authentic Mexican Restaurant Chain. The company operates 190 units in 33 states.
Krigels Jewelers (913-642-3901) has filed for chapter 11 protection. The 21-unit chain will likely be sold to ARY Jewelers, a retail chain from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The new owners plan to take the Kansas City, MO chain national.
The Limited (614-415-7000) closed stores at Summit Mall in Fairlawn, OH and Chapel Hill Mall in Akron, OH. The space in Akron will be subdivided among Bath & Body Works, a candle store and a portrait studio. Banana Republic will take the space in Fairlawn.
AMC Entertainment (816-221-4000) plans to close 20% of its units over the next two years. The 181-unit chain operates in 26 states with its heaviest concentration in the southern and western sunbelt states.
Ponderosa (972-588-5645) closed its unit at US Route 422 and North Road in Youngstown, OH. The property owner will redevelop the site. |
