Who's Opening & WhereWal*Mart (501-273-4000) will open a 208,700 sq.ft. store at the intersection of West 27th Avenue and South Olson Street near Highway 395 in Kennewick, WA. The opening will be followed by the closing of the company’s store on West Canal Drive in Kennewick, WA. The company will open a 150,000 sq.ft. store at the intersection of Queensgate Drive and Interstate 182 in Richland, WA. The company will open a store at the site of Stan’s Garden Center in Harborcreek, PA. The company will expand its Neighborhood Market concept in the Houston, TX market. The store at the intersection of Kempwood and Gessner Streets will open in late summer as will the store at Texas 6 and Rippling Water Road. The units at Champions Forest, Spring Cypress and at the intersection of Beechnut and Kirkwood Streets are scheduled for late fall openings. The planned unit at the intersection of Grant and Eldridge Streets is scheduled to open early 2002. The company’s proposed Wal*Mart and Sam’s Club project in Chesapeake, VA has been delayed due to zoning problems. The project is located at the intersection of Elizabeth Harbor Drive and Taylor Road adjacent to the Chesapeake Square Mall. The company will not open the 220,000 sq.ft. store on East Main Street in Spartanburg, SC until January 2003. The company will open a 204,164 sq.ft. supercenter at the intersection of Elm Place and Tucson Street in Broken Arrow, OK. The store will be the company’s second in the city.

Applebee’s (913-967-4173) plans 100-plus openings in 2001. The company will open 25 company-owned units and has franchise agreements on 80 to 90 more. The company plans to open 15 restaurants in the Philadelphia, PA market, doubling its current number. The chain operates 1,286 locations nationwide.
Costco (425-313-6360) will open a location on the site of the former Levitz furniture store near Interstate 35 in Lenexa, KS. The company operates 258 units nationwide.
Starbucks (413-566-0216) opened 1,133 locations in fiscal 2000. The company plans to open 450 units in fiscal 2001. The company operates 2,564 locations in North America.

Cabela’s Sporting Goods (308-254-5505) will build a 150,000 sq.ft. store at a 1.3 million sq.ft. development adjacent to the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, KS. The center will be anchored by a Nebraska Furniture Mart scheduled to open in 2003.
Casual Corner Group Inc. (860-741-0771) will open a Casual Corner and a Petite Sophisticate store at 430 North Michigan Aveune in Chicago, IL. The company will put its two stores in the former site of the Paul Harris store.
Bob Evans (614-492-4941) opened 15 units in the first three quarters of fiscal 2001. The company plans 15 more openings for the fourth quarter and 30 more units in fiscal 2002. The company operates 454 locations nationwide.
Von Maur (319-388-2200) is negotiating with RED Development to anchor a new center in Madison, WI. The company will open stores in Eden Prairie, MN, Fort Wayne, IN and St. Charles, IL in 2001 and Wichita, KS and Glenview, IL in 2002.

The Bombay Company (817-870-1847) plans 33 new locations in fiscal 2001, including eight outlet stores. The company will also renovate 15 to 20 smaller stores into its 3,500 sq.ft. to 4,500 sq.ft. concept. At year end the company plans to have expanded its square footage by 8% to 9% and to be operating 425 stores.
Toys ‘R’ Us (201-599-7850) has seen sales rebound after a disappointing holiday 1999 period and may soon be expanding its operations. The company has said that it may open 40 to 50 stores in 2003. The company operates 711 stores nationwide.
Nordstrom’s (206-628-2111) will delay by a year the opening of its store at Short Pump Town Center in Richmond, VA. The store will open in fall 2003, while the rest of the center is scheduled for a September 2002 ribbon-cutting. The company will also open a Nordstrom’s Rack at Dulles Town Center in Dulles, VA. The store is scheduled to open this fall. The company will open a 42,000 sq.ft. Nordstrom Rack store at the 555 Ninth Street Retail Center in San Francisco, CA. The company will also open a 30,000 sq.ft. Nordstrom’s Rack store at Silverado Ranch Plaza in Henderson, NV. The unit is scheduled to open in fall 2001. The company will open a full-line store at Fashion Show Mall on the strip in Las Vegas, NV in fall 2002. The company has had to delay the opening of its Southpark Center location until 2003.
