Tasty Baking Co. (215-221-8500) recently opened a Thrift Outlet store in Baltimore MD joining 17 others in PA MD NJ and DE. The company hopes to open two more by year’s end.

Starbucks Corp. (413-566-0216) plans to open 1 200 locations in the current fiscal year and another 1 200 during 2002 including 875 in North America and 375 international stores.

Goodwill Industries/Manasota Inc. (941-953-3303) opened the first Goodwill store for children in Sarasota FL. The children’s store which sells items starting at 99 cents joins 33 traditional Goodwill retail stores in FL including a bookstore that opened in 1999.

Nordstorm Rack (206-373-4085) a division of Nordstrom Inc. is planning to open eight stores this year. The discount division currently operates 39 stores nationwide.

Ingles Markets Inc. (828-669-2941) plans to open two stores during the balance of the fiscal year. The company also expects to open one replacement store remodel another store and sell four older stores. Already this year the supermarket chain has opened three replacement stores sold one store and completed one major and four minor remodels.

Clark Retail Group Inc. (630-366-3000) expects to open at least 24 White Hen Pantry units to the Chicago IL area over the next two years.

FOSSIL Inc. (972-234-2525) plans to open an additional Fossil Jeans Wear store later this year. Including a store recently opened on Broadway in New York NY the company will be operating 19 stores by the end of 2001.

The J. Jill Group (617-376-4300) will open 15 J. Jill stores in 2001 bringing the company’s total to 47 by year’s end. The company carries women’s apparel accessories and footwear designed to appeal to those aged 35 and older.

Steve Madden Ltd. (718-446-1800) expects to open seven stores this year. The company operates 66 contemparary footwear stores.

Too Inc. (614-479-3500) a spinoff of The Limited plans this year to open seven Mishmash apparel stores that cater to teen-age girls. Twenty-five more are planned for 2002. The stores will carry a varied stock of clothes swimwear footwear sleepwear and accessories.

The New England Restaurant Co. (978-897-1400) is planning to open 500 Bertucci’s Brick Oven Pizza units over the next 10 years. Four are expected to open this year.

Jamba Juice (415-865-1200 ) plans to open 50 stores in Chicago IL Houston TX and FL during the next five years. The company currently operates 330 smoothie shops in 23 states.

Wet Seal Inc. (949-699-4059) plans to open seven Arden B. stores this year and seven next year. The company which currently operates 85 Arden B. units specializes in apparel for working women in their 20s and 30s. Arden B. stores also are being redesigned with the first to open in the Easton Town Center in Columbus OH and the Georgetown Mall in Washington DC this month.

Hot Topic (626-839-4681) has identified 700 potential locations for Torrid stores which offer Hot Topic’s Gothic-style apparel styles in larger sizes.

Famous Dave’s (952-294-1300) plans to open six to eight restaurants this year and 10 to 12 next year. The company currently operates 42 units and 40 franchise locations have been announced.

Puma Corp. (978-698-1000) plans to open its third concept store on Broadway in the Soho section of New York NY.

Forever 21 (213-747-2121) this year will open seven 25 000 sq.ft. Forever XXI stores featuring young men’s and women’s apparel.

Foods of All Nations (804-296-6131) opened its second store in Virginia Beach VA. Expansion plans are on the conservative side future expansion will take place in Richmond VA and other areas in the state.

Cooks’Wares (513-489-6400) expects to open a 4 000 sq.ft. housewares store at the Liberty Towne Center in Cincinnati OH. The store will join the flagship 10 000 sq.ft. location at The Shops at Harper’s Point in Cincinnati and a smaller 2 100 sq.ft. location now closed for mall renovations in the Beechmont Mall also in Cincinnati.

Best Buy (952-947-2000) plans to open 60 stores annually for the next four years along with about 60 stores slated to open in Canada starting in 2002. The company also plans to expand its Sam Goody On Cue and Magnolia Hi Fi chains.

Quizno’s (720-359-3300) opened 113 units so far this year and 785 more are slated to open within the next 18 to 24 months. The company currently operates about 1 200 specialty sub shops.

BJ’s Wholesale Club (508-652-7905) plans to open 14 stores this year along with 25 gas stations which will offer discounted gasoline to club members.

Dollar Tree (757-321-5000) expects to open 250 stores in 2001 including several former Dollar Express stores. A typical store is 4 500 sq.ft. but larger 10 000 sq.ft. format stores are also being utilized.

P.F. Chang’s China Bistro (602-957-8986) will open three units this year one is Scottsdale AZ and two in Dallas TX. The company plans to open about 15 of the 7 000 sq.ft. upscale Chinese restaurants per year.

Panera Bread Co. (314-633-7100) plans to open 84 units this year with a total of 551 units planned to open over the next five years. Locations are being sought in CA and NY and agreements already have been signed in FL PA DE and NJ.

Strauss Discount Auto (732-390-9000) plans to open nine stores in 2001. The company which operates 92 stores across NY and NJ emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy last spring.

Meritage Hospitality Group Inc. (616-776-2600) plans to open seven Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers restaurants in 2001. The company operates 34 Wendy’s in Western and Southern MI.

Borders Inc. (734-477-1100) will open a 26 025 sq.ft. Borders Books and Music store at the Sunnyvale Towns Center in Sunnyvale CA this November. The store will feature book video and music titles and a coffee shop. There are more than 340 Borders domestic stores 17 international stores 32 Books etc. stores and about 860 Waldenbooks stores.
