Who's Opening & Where

Jo-Ann Stores Inc. (330-656-2600) will open Jo-Ann etc stores in Avon IN at the Avon Towne Square; Brighton MI at the Brighton Mall on Grand River and Henderson NV at the Sunmark Plaza. The 36 000 sq.ft. and 45 000 sq.ft. stores join 64 others nationwide with four more scheduled to open. The company also operates traditional 15 000 sq.ft. Jo-Ann stores across the country.

U.S. Factory Outlet (212-563-3650) will open a store in the Karcher Mall in Nampa ID near Boise. Other tenants in the mall include Bon Marche Emporium Jo Ann Fabrics and Ross Dress for Less. USFO operates stores in AZ AR CA IN IL MS TX NM MO NY ND MA OH SC TN and VA.

Premiere Home Furnishings LLC (559-643-8955) will open a store in Riverside CA joining other CA locations in Victorville San Bernardino Corona Temecula and Murrieta. The company plans to open at least 38 stores over the next two years some of which will occupy former Heilig-Meyers sites.

Villa Pizza (973-285-4800) opened units at Perdue University and Colorado State University with plans to open three to five more university locations in the next year. The company which also recently opened a unit at the Sante Fe Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas NV operates 200 locations in 38 states and eight countries.

Academy Sports & Outdoors (281-646-5322) plans to open a second Tulsa OK location on a 17-acre parcel at 81st Street and Mingo Valley Expressway. The 62 000 sq.ft. store should be operational by February 2002. The company operates 50 stores in OK AL FL LA MS TN and TX.

QVC@ (484-701-8748) will open a retail outlet at the Mall of America in Bloomington MN. The home-shopping company’s flagship 2 500 sq.ft. location will feature a television studio so segments can be filmed at the store.

Best Buy (952-947-2867) plans to open three stores in the Seattle WA area: located on Pacific Highway in South Federal Way; on Alderwood Mall Parkway in Lynwood and on Ridgetop Boulevard Northwest in Silverdale. Stores also are set to open in Northgate WA and Tukwila WA. The 45 000 sq.ft. stores are part of a 60-location expansion plan set to be complete in 2002.

Rent-A-Center Inc. (972-801-1200) plans to open between 100 to 125 stores this year. The company which has opened 84 stores since October 2000 currently operates 2 275 rent-to-own stores across the nation and in Puerto Rico.

Papa John’s International Inc. (502-261-7272) which operates 2 692 Papa John’s restaurants throughout the United States and ten international markets plans to open 100 to 120 units in the second half of 2001 tempered by the closure of 20 to 65 locations.

Tuesday Morning Corp. (972-387-3562) opened 10 stores in the second quarter and expects to open 10 more in the third quarter. Seven additional openings are planned for the fourth quarter. The company which specializes in discount home furnishings and giftware currently operates 461 stores.

Bend Properties (949-251-6464) facilitated openings of Bath & Body Works and Miller’s Outpost stores at the Mall at Yuba City in Yuba City CA. A 30 000 sq.ft. Ross Dress for Less currently is under construction.

Office Depot Inc. (561-438-7635) is opening two prototype stores designed to be more customer-friendly than the company’s warehouse-superstore formats in Palm Beach FL and Englewood CO. Nine more of the customer-centric designed stores are expected to open by the end of 2001.

Save-A-Lot (314-592-9100) is planning to build a 15 000 sq.ft. store in St. Petersburg FL. The company which operates 900 stores in 36 states expects to open the store in February. Nearby retailers include Discount Auto Parts and Walgreens.

Movado Group Inc. (201-460-4800) opened its eighth boutique in the King of Prussia Mall King of Prussia PA. The new store is 1 800 sq.ft. and will carry jewelry home and gift accessories and watches. The company plans to open two more stores in Tyson’s Corner VA and Soho NY by the end of this year.

Wal*Mart Inc. (501-273-4000) plans to open a fifth store in Colorado Springs CO. The company is looking at potential sites on Powers Boulevard. The store to be completed in spring 2003 pending city approval and land purchase would be more than 200 000 sq.ft. on 20 acres.

Skechers USA Inc. (310-318-2982) opened its first TX retail store at the Shops at Willow Bend in Plano. The company currently operates 65 retail stores in the US and overseas.

Swiss Army Brands Inc. (203-929-6391) will open its first flagship store in New York City NY later this year. The 3 500 sq.ft. store will be located at 136 Prince Street in the Soho district of Manhattan.

Apple Computer Inc. (408-996-1010) opened retail stores in the Dallas TX Chicago IL and Boston MA areas along with a unit in the Mall of America in MN as part of a 25-store expansion plan for 2001.

Tricon Global Restaurants (972-338-7700) will open a cobranded unit in the U.S. Pentagon Building in Washington DC. KFC will open this fall and Taco Bell and Pizza Hut will be built in early 2002.

Popeye’s Chicken & Biscuits (404-459-4450) signed a deal with the Saratoga Food Group to develop 25 units in the Raleigh and Greensboro NC areas.

Pro Golf of America Inc. (248-737-0553) opened four Pro Golf Discount stores in the Atlanta GA metropolitan area. The locations formerly were Golf Warehouse outlets.

Bath & Body Works (641-415-7454) opened a store at the Mall of Orange in Orange CA. The skincare and fragrance product retailer operates 1 500 stores nationwide.

The Keg Steakhouse & Bar (604-276-0242) will open a restaurant in Los Colinas TX in mid-November. Another location in Plano TX is planned.

Homebase Inc. (949-442-5000) opened three 100 000 sq.ft. House2Home stores in northern CA. The company currently operates 42 units in CA AZ and NV.

Papa Murphy’s (360-260-7272) plans to open 100 Take N Bake Pizza units by the end of the year. There currently are 650 franchised and company-owned stores in the West and Midwest.

Levin Management Corp. (908-226-5267) has facilitated the opening of a 38 000 sq.ft. P.C. Richard & Son store at St. George’s Crossing in Woodbridge NJ. ShopRite also will open a relocated 91 000 sq.ft. supermarket in the 317 621 sq.ft. center. The stores will take space from a former Caldor discount department store.

Books-A-Million Inc. (205-595-9478) will open Joe Muggs Newsstand stores at the Howell Mill Plaza and in Midtown at 9th and Peachtree in Atlanta GA. The company also will open a store at Town Lake Square in Woodstock GA.

VF Factory Outlet (610-378-0408) will open an outlet store at The Great Mall of the Great Plains in Olathe KS. The company operates 54 stores in 25 states.
