Who's Opening & Where

Abo’s Pizza (303-449-6253) is opening a location on Highway 287 in Broomfield, CO next month.

Verlo Mattress Co. (262-473-4339) is opening a store on Nickel Street in Broomfield, CO during May. The company operates 65 stores in CO, GA, FL, IA, IL, MO, NC, PA, TN and WI.

Costco Wholesale Corp. (425-313-8100) plans to open 14 to 16 stores, including the relocation of three to four warehouses to larger facilities, by the end of the company’s fiscal year in September.

Dick’s Sporting Goods (877-846-9997) plans to open 12 to 14 stores annually during the next several years, focusing on TX and the Rocky Mountain states. The company operates more than 100 sporting goods stores in the eastern U.S.

Brooks Pharmacy (401-825-3900) plans to open 80 stores in MA and possibly five in RI. Long-term expansion plans include CT, ME and NH. The company operates more than 250 pharmacies located throughout New England.

Champps Entertainment Inc. (800-461-5965) plans to open up to 12 Champps Americana restaurants by mid-2003. The company operates 32 upscale sports bar/restaurants and franchises 15 locations throughout the U.S.

Hollywood Entertainment Corp. (503-570-1600) plans to open about 200 stores a year. Up to 50 locations could open during the second half of this year. The video store chain operates 1,800 locations nationwide.

Belk Inc. (704-357-1000) plans to open five stores in the southeastern U.S. during April. The company operates about 210 stores.

Allied Domecq Plc. (781-961-4000) is planning to open Baskin-Robbins franchise locations in southern NM. This month three franchise locations were opened in El Paso, TX. More than 2,500 Baskin-Robbins locations operate in the U.S.

Kohl’s Corp. (262-703-7000) plans to open 70 locations this year. During the first quarter, the company opened the following stores: 12 in the Houston, TX market, 13 in the Boston, MA market and four in the Nashville, TN area. The specialty department store chain operates 382 locations in 29 states.

Aldi, Inc. (630-879-8100) plans to open about 40 stores this year. Aldi locations average about 15,150 sq.ft. During February, the company opened two stores in the Tulsa, OK area market, the first in the state. The company operates 620 stores in 21 states from KS to the eastern seaboard.

Dillard’s, Inc. (501-376-5200) is opening the following locations during August: a 180,000 sq.ft. store at the Lynnhaven Mall in Virginia Beach, VA and a 200,000 sq.ft. store at the Triangle Town Center in Raleigh, NC. During October, the company will open the following locations: a 62,000 sq.ft. store at the Randolph Mall in Asheboro, NC; a 180,000 sq.ft. store at Parkway Place in Huntsville, AL and a 200,000 sq.ft. store at the Fashion Show Mall in Las Vegas, NV. The company operates more than 300 locations in 29 states.

K-Momo Inc. (602-484-9722) plans to open two K-Momo stores in NM this year. Next year, the retailer of hip hop apparel plans to open four stores in NM and the company’s first in CA. Long-term growth plans include expansion to CO, TX and UT. The company, which currently operates eight locations in AZ, expects to operate 150 stores in five years, of which 20% will be franchised.

The Quizno’s Corp. (720-359-3300) is opening a Quizno’s Classic Subs location at the Streets of Woodfield shopping center in Schaumburg, IL during late Spring. The quick-service, Italian-style sub sandwich retailer operates more than 1,200 restaurants in Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Japan, Puerto Rico and the U.S.

Burlington Coat Factory (609-387-7800) is relocating a store from MarketSquare Mall in Huntsville, AL to a former Home Depot site on University Drive in Huntsville. The 102,000 sq.ft. location is expected to open during September. The store’s current location is about 65,000 sq.ft. The company operates more than 310 stores in 42 states nationwide.

Best Buy Co. (952-947-2000) plans to open four stores in the Salt Lake City, UT area this Summer. The stores will be located at 281 West 2100 in South Salt Lake City, 35 East 11400 South in Sandy, 5213 South State Street in Murray and 4177 Riverdale Road in Riverdale. The company also is opening a 45,000 sq.ft. location at 800 East Dimond Boulevard at Dimond Center Mall in Anchorage, AK, the company’s first in the state. The AK location will open during the Fall. In addition, the company is opening a location at 2829 North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The 30,000 sq.ft. store will open during the Fall. The openings are part of the company’s previously announced plan to open more than 60 Best Buy locations this year. The company operates more than 1,800 stores in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the U.S.

Whole Foods Market, Inc. (512-391-8400) plans to open a 40,000 sq.ft. location in Toronto, Canada during May. The store will be the company’s first outside the U.S. The company also is considering opening a location in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The retailer of organic foods operates about 130 stores in the U.S.

Wendy’s of Missouri Inc. (417-887-7677) is opening a 3,058 sq.ft. Wendy’s fast food restaurant during May at 1723 West Republic Road in Springfield, MO. The restaurant is the 23rd Wendy’s location in MO.
