Who's Opening & Where


Barnes & Noble, Inc. (212-633-3300) plans to open a 25,000 sq.ft. store in Summerlin, NV during April 2003. The store will be located in the Crossroads Commons shopping center at the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Fort Apache Road. The company also plans to open a 23,500 sq.ft. store in West Jordan, UT. The store, which will open during October, will be located at the Jordan Landing Shopping Center. The company operates more than 580 Barnes & Noble locations nationwide.

Crate & Barrel (800-967-6696) is opening a 32,000 sq.ft. store at University Village in Seattle, WA. The furniture and housewares retailer is expected to open the location during Summer 2003. The company operates more than 80 stores in the U.S.

International Furniture Liquidators (410-597-9161) is opening a 110,000 sq.ft. store at the former Montgomery Ward building at Security Square Mall in Windsor Mill, MD. The company is closing its 80,000 sq.ft. location at the Reisterstown Road Plaza in Baltimore, MD.

Memphis Pizza Cafe (901-684-1306) is opening a restaurant at the 37,000 sq.ft. Shoppes of Wolfchase in northeast Shelby County, TN. The restaurant will be the company’s fourth location and is expected to open during June or July. The company operates three restaurants in TN.

Albertson’s Inc. (208-385-6200) opened a supermarket in San Francisco, CA last month and has plans to open two more in the city during this year. The company operates about 2,400 stores in 33 states.

Bertucci’s Corp. (508-351-2500) plans to open six to eight restaurants this year and 12 to 14 restaurants during 2003. The company operates about 75 casual Italian restaurants throughout the New England and mid-Atlantic regions.

Aura Science LLC (614-415-7000) opened its first store at the Easton Town Center in Columbus, OH this month. The newly formed retailer of beauty products is a joint venture of The Limited, Inc. and Shiseido Co. Expansion plans include the opening of 10 stores in major cities throughout 2002.

Zumiez, Inc. (877-828-6929) opened a store at Great Northern Mall in Clay, NY last month. Plans call for additional openings this Spring at the Carousel Center in Syracuse, NY and Oakwood Mall in Eau Claire, WI. More than 60 Zumiez skate shops operate throughout the U.S., primarily on the West Coast.

Garden Ridge (281-579-7901) is seeking locations in the valley area of AZ. The home-decor and craft retailer operates more than 40 stores in GA, IL, KY, MO, NC, OH, OK, SC, TN, TX and VA. The company’s locations average about 110,000 sq.ft.

Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (650-837-5000) is opening a 234,000 sq.ft. Wal*Mart Supercenter in Charlotte, NC during August. The store will be located in the 700-acre, mixed-use community of Whitehall on N.C. 49. The company also is opening a 208,000 sq.ft. Wal*Mart Supercenter at Harrisonburg Crossing Shopping Center in Harrisonburg, VA. The store is expected to open by early Fall 2003.

Winco Foods Inc. (208-377-0110) is opening a store in the Evergreen area of Clark County, WA. The store will be located on 13.23 acres at the intersection of 136th Avenue and Northeast Ninth Street. The discount grocery store is slated to open during Spring 2003. The company operates more than 34 stores in CA, ID, NV, OR and WA.

Ruby Tuesday, Inc. (865-379-5700) is opening a restaurant at the Huntington Mall in Barboursville, WV during November. The company operates more than 400 Ruby Tuesday restaurants in 26 states.

McDonald’s Corp. (630-623-3000) is opening a location at the CoolSprings Galleria in Franklin, TN. The fast-food restaurant will be opened by The Good Food Group, a franchisee. More than 13,000 McDonald’s locations operate throughout the U.S.

Blockbuster Inc. (214-854-3000) is opening a Blockbuster location in Enid, OK through its franchisee, Fugate Enterprises. The 4,200 sq.ft. store will open next month. More than 8,000 Blockbuster video stores operate worldwide.

Max & Erma’s Restaurants, Inc. (614-431-5800) is opening four restaurants during the second quarter of 2002 in Pittsburgh, PA, Columbus, OH and Lansing, MI. In addition, a location in Evansville, IN is under construction and the company signed an eight-store franchise agreement for Philadelphia, PA. The company operates 63 full-service, casual dining restaurants throughout GA, IL, IN, KY, MI, NC, OH, PA and VA. The company also franchises 10 restaurants in MO, OH and WI.

The Pep Boys (215-430-9720) is opening two supercenters in Watchung, NJ and Commack, NY during the fiscal year ending February 2003. The automotive aftermarket retail and service chain operates 628 stores in 36 states and Puerto Rico.

Sur La Table (206-682-7175) opened a 6,000 sq.ft. location in Los Angeles, CA last month. The kitchenware retailer is opening two stores during the Fall, including a store at Santana Row in San Jose, CA. The company operates about 26 locations in AZ, CA, CO, IL, NV, NY, OH, TX, UT, VA, WA and Washington, DC.

New Seasons Market (503-292-1987) plans to open its fifth store by the end of this year and a sixth location during 2003. The natural food supermarket chain operates four locations in OR.

Briazz, Inc. (206-467-0994) plans to open five cafes during the first half of 2002. The company operates about 43 locations in Seattle, WA, Chicago, IL and San Francisco and Los Angeles, CA.

Publix Super Markets Inc. (800-242-1227) is planning to demolish a 39,800 sq.ft. Publix supermarket at Chasewood Plaza in Jupiter, FL to build a 70,386 sq.ft. store at the site. The company operates 695 supermarkets in AL, FL, GA and SC.

Harry Buffalo Restaurant (216-221-1313) is opening a location in Akron, OH. The franchise, which specializes in bison meat, operates four locations in OH.

National Amusements Inc. (781-461-1600) plans to open a theater at West Chester Market Square in West Chester, OH. The 16 to 18 screen theater is expected to open with the lifestyle center during Fall 2003. The company operates more than 1,390 screens throughout the U.S., the U.K. and Latin America.

Hastings Entertainment, Inc. (806-351-2300) is planning to open seven stores during the fiscal year ending in January 2003. The retailer of multimedia entertainment operates 141 superstores throughout the U.S. The company’s stores average about 20,000 sq.ft.

Stage Stores, Inc. (800-579-2302) is opening 13 stores during the fiscal year ending in February 2003. The company will open two stores during the first quarter, five during the second quarter and six during the third quarter. The retailer of brand-name apparel, accessories, cosmetics and footwear operates 342 stores in 13 states as Stage, Bealls and Palais Royal.

Urban Outfitters, Inc. (215-564-2313) is opening 11 to 13 stores during fiscal 2003, which ends in January 2003. The specialty retailer of lifestyle merchandise operates 49 Urban Retail stores and 32 Anthropologie stores throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe.
