Who's Opening & Where Payless ShoeSource, Inc. (800-626-3204) is planning to open 20 stores in Central America and the Caribbean. The company currently operates 86 stores in this region. Hibbett Sporting Goods, Inc. (205-942-4292) is planning to open 65 stores this year. Wild Oats Markets (303-440-5220) plans to open three stores this year or in early 2003, including a Henry’s Marketplace in Costa Mesa, CA and Wild Oats stores in Louisville, KY and Portland, ME. The company plans to open 10 stores next year, 20 in 2004 and 25 in 2005.Chicago Pizza & Brewery, Inc. (714-848-3747) is planning to open restaurants in Addison and Webster, TX. The Addison restaurant will be approximately 7,300 sq.ft. and located on Beltline Road. The Webster restaurant will be approximately 10,000 sq.ft. and located on Bay Area Boulevard. Both sites are expected to open within five to eight months. The Fort Worth store is located in University Village and is the companies 14th store in the TX market. The Akron store is located in the Summit Mall and is the company’s eighth store in the OH market. The company has opened seven stores this year as part of a plan to open as many as 25 stores this year and 30 stores next year. The company currently operates 117 stores in the Northeast, Midwest, South and Mid-Atlantic states.Barnes & Noble (212-633-3300) is opening a store at The Pointe at 5300 South State Street in Murray, UT. The 23,500 sq.ft. store is slated to open June 2003. Barnes & Noble also plans to open a store in Las Cruces, NM. The 26,000 sq.ft. store is slated to open May 2003 and will be located at the Mesilla Valley Mall at 700 South Telsh Boulevard. The company operates 599 Barnes & Noble stores in 49 states. Dalton Bookseller stores, primarily in regional malls.Hobby Lobby (405-745-1100) is planning to open a 55,000 store at a space formerly occupied by Wal*Mart at 5901 Atlanta Highway in Montgomery, AL. The company operates five locations in AL, including stores in Decatur, Florence, Huntsville and Tuscaloosa, with Montgomery, Homewood and Mobile locations under negotiations. Nationwide, the company operates 288 stores in 24 states. Lowes Home Improvement (336-658-4000) plans to open 123 stores this year, for a total of 859 stores by year’s end. Burlington Coat Factory (609-387-7800) plans to open a store at the Coliseum Mall in Hampton, VA. Construction on the 82,641 sq.ft. facility began in July and opening is slated for Summer 2003. The company operates more than 315 stores in 42 states. Gadzooks, Inc. (972-307-5555) opened seven stores this year and plans to open five additional stores by the remainder of the year. The Steak n Shake Co. (317-633-4100) is planning to open a 4,000 sq.ft. Steak n Shake restaurant near The Parks in Arlington mall located at the intersection of South Cooper Street and Matlock Road in Arlington, TX. Area tenants include Taco Bell. The company also is planning to open a location in Frisco, TX. Steak n Shake also is planning to open as many as 38 more metroplex restaurants within five years. The company currently operates about 400 restaurants in 19 states. Buffalo’s Franchise Concepts, Inc. (770-420-1800) is planning to open Buffalo’s Southwest Cafe restaurants in Carroll, Forsyth, Fulton, Heard, Newton, North Fulton, Paulding, Polk and Rockdale, GA. This year, the company has already opened restaurants in the Mall of Georgia, the Stonecrest Mall in Lithonia, GA and on Highway 41 in Acworth, GA. The company currently operates an Atlanta store at the 1.57 million sq.ft. Lenox Square. Brinker International, Inc. (972-980-9917) is planning to open a Macaroni Grill at the Huebner Oaks Center in San Antonio, TX. The restaurant is slated for a Fall opening. The company also is planning to open a restaurant at Sonterra Park, a mixed-use development located at the intersection of Loop 1604 and U.S. Highway 281 in north central San Antonio. Opening is slated for early September. Both restaurants will be about 7,100 sq.ft.CVS Corp. The company also plans to open a 12,000 sq.ft. store in Arlington, TX. The store will be located at the intersection of South Collins and East Abram Street on a site formerly occupied by Western Auto. CVS Corp. operates 4,100 stores nationwide.La Salsa, Inc. (800-527-2572) is planning to open five La Salsa Fresh Mexican Grills in FL. The restaurants will be located in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties in FL. CKE Restaurants, Inc. operates 95 La Salsa Fresh Mexican Grills. Sobik’s International Franchising, Inc. (407-772-0857) is planning to open 50 Sobik’s Subs, including locations in the Tampa, Clearwater and St. Petersburg, FL markets. Champps Americana (800-461-5965) is planning to open a 10,000 sq.ft. location at Royal Oaks Village located at the intersection of Westheimer and Royal Oaks in Houston, TX. The site has a land area of 1.5 acres. Publix Super Markets, Inc. (800-242-1227) is planning to open a 45,000 sq.ft. Publix at SouthWood Village in SouthWood, a master-planned Arvide community located at the intersection of Capital Circle and Blair Stone Road in Tallahassee, FL. Construction is expected to begin this Fall, with completion slated for next Fall. The company currently operates 697 stores in AL, FL, GA and SC. Taco Del Mar (206-624-7060) is planning to open 52 units by the end of the year. The company is focusing on opening in the Seattle, WA area of lower Queen Anne, Belltown, North Bend, Snoqualmie, Anacortes, Marysville, South Everett and Mill Creek. Family Dollar Stores (704-847-6961) is planning to open 575 stores during its fiscal year, which begins in early September. The company currently operates 4,455 stores.Saladworks, Inc. Saladworks, Inc. is planning to open stores from northern VA to Boston, MA, including locations in Dresher and Willow Grove, PA. (210-938-8000) is planning to open two H-E-B stores in Fort Bend, IN early next year at the intersection of Grand Parkway and U.S. 59 and at the Corinthian Point on Fuqua/Beltway 8. O’Naturals (207-781-8889) is planning to open two stores this year and three stores in 2003.Sears Roebuck and Co. (847-286-2500) is planning to open a 150,000 sq.ft., two-level Sears store at the Contra Costa Center located along Interstate 680 at Monument Boulevard in Pleasant Hills, CA. The site formerly was occupied by Montgomery Ward. The company also plans to open 15 department stores this year, while remodeling another 50 stores.
