Who's Opening & Where

Darden Restaurants, Inc. (407-245-5366) is planning to open a 7,400 sq.ft. Olive Garden restaurant on a land area of 2.28 acres at the intersection of Rivertown Parkway and Potomac Avenue in Grandville, MI. The site is located near Rivertown Crossings. The company also is planning to open an 8,207 sq.ft. Olive Garden restaurant on a land area of 2.189 acres adjacent to the Stonecrest Mall in Lithonia, GA.

Applebee’s International, Inc. (913-967-4000) is planning to open more than 100 Applebee’s restaurants this year. At its current pace for openings, the company plans to operate 2,300 restaurants in eight or nine years.

W.W. Grainger, Inc. (888-361-8649) is planning to open a 62,520 sq.ft. Grainger Super Store on Frontage Road in Forest Park, GA late this summer. The industrial supply company is testing the store as a prototype for its super store concept.

Hot Topic (626-839-4681) is planning to open 70 Hot Topic stores and 15 Torrid locations next year. The typical Hot Topic store is 1,800 sq.ft., compared to 2,400 sq.ft. for Torrid stores. The company also plans to expand 10 existing stores this year. The company currently operates 328 Hot Topic stores and 11 Torrid units in 48 states.

Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. (405-745-1100) opened a 53,000 sq.ft. location in Dodge City, KS. Area retailers include Wal*Mart. The company currently operates 281 stores in 24 states, including 11 stores in KS. Hobby Lobby plans to open 20 stores this year and expand or relocate 10 stores to larger facilities.

IHOP Corp. (818-240-6055) is planning to open a 5,000 sq.ft. IHOP restaurant at 4510 West 41st Street, west of Interstate 29, in Sioux Falls, SD. The restaurant will take over a space formerly occupied by a Denny’s restaurant.

Sam Seltzer’s Steakhouse (813-873-7267) is planning to open a restaurant in Port Charlotte, FL. The company currently operates six restaurants in FL, including locations in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Altamonte Springs, Port Richie and Sarasota. The company also trades as Le Biftheque Steakhouse in Canada.

Moser’s Discount Foods (573-642-6675) is planning to open a 19,000 sq.ft. supermarket located on the outer road of the northeast junction of the U.S. 63 overpass in Ashland, MO. The company currently operates supermarkets in Fulton, Columbia, Holt, Summit and Warrenton, MO.

Carrabba’s Italian Grill (813-288-8286) is planning to open a 6,300 sq.ft. restaurant on the north side of Day Road near Main Street in Mishawka, IN. Area retailers include Logan’s Roadhouse, Borders Books, IHOP, Houlihan’s and Famous Dave’s BBQ. The company currently operates 110 locations nationwide, with two in the Indianapolis, IN area.

Save-A-Lot (314-592-9100) opened a 14,000 sq.ft. store at 100 Broadway in Menands, NY. The company currently operates more than 1,000 stores nationwide and plans to open more than 100 stores a year.

Weight Loss Forever International, Inc. (757-497-8899) opened locations in Tampa and Lakeland, FL. The company plans on opening over 100 units in the next 12 months.

Publix Super Markets, Inc. (800-242-1227) opened a 46,733 sq.ft. Publix supermarket at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Valleydale Road in Pelham, AL. The company also plans to open stores on John Hawkins Parkway in Hoover’s Trace Crossings and in Vestavia Hills, AL at Vestavia Hills City Center on Montgomery Highway, followed by openings during early 2003 in The Village at Lee Branch on U.S. 280 and Hoover’s Valleydale Village in Birmingham. The company also is considering locations in Trussville, AL and another site on U.S. 280. Publix operates 703 stores in the southeast.

Costco Wholesale Corp. (425-313-8100) is planning to open Costco Home, a home furnishings store in Kirkland, WA as early as November. The company also is planning to open locations in Portland, OR and the San Francisco, bay area of CA.

Madstone Theaters (212-989-4500) is planning to open a location in Washington, DC. The company, which specializes in showing independent and foreign films, is planning to open as many as 50 locations within 10 years. Madstone Theaters currently operates locations in Cleveland, OH and Denver, CO.

Quality Dining, Inc. (574-271-4600) is planning to open two Burger King restaurants and two full-service restaurants this year. The company currently operates 71 Burger King locations, 36 Grady’s American Grill restaurants, 28 Chili’s Grill & Bar, four Papa Vino’s Italian Kitchen, four Spageddies, two Regas Grill and one Porterhouse restaurant.

Tommy Bahama (212-391-8688) is planning to open as many as 10 stores this year. The company currently operates 20 apparel stores nationwide.

Damon’s Grill (614-442-7900) is planning to open three restaurants in Staten Island, NY. The first Damon’s Grill franchise is slated for a Spring 2003 opening. The company also has plans to open stores in Monmouth and Ocean Counties in NJ. The company operates 140 locations worldwide. Damon’s Grill also plans to add approximately 20 franchised and company-owned restaurants within the next year, primarily in the East and the Midwest.

The Children’s Place (201-558-2400) plans to open 130 stores this year, including 23 in Canada. By year’s end, the company will operate 650 stores in 47 states.

The May Department Stores Co. (314-342-6300) is planning to open a Famous Barr store by August 2003 at the Biscayne Mall in Columbia, MO.

Piaggio USA (310-604-3980) is planning to open 30 Vespa stores this year. The company, which specializes in selling scooters, currently operates 30 stores.

Sportsman’s Warehouse (801-566-6681) will open a 48,000 sq.ft. store located on Waite Avenue in St. Cloud, MN. The company also is opening stores in Aurora, CO, Salem, OR and Kennewick, WA. Sportsman’s Warehouse currently has three stores in UT, two in CO, two in ID and one in WA.

Coldwater Creek (208-263-2265) is planning to open over 100 stores over the next five years, including a 16,000 sq.ft. store in Sandpoint, ID this year. The stores will be approximately 5,000 sq.ft. The company plans on opening 14 stores this year and as many as 28 in 2003.

Buckle, Inc. (308-236-8491) is planning to open nine stores and remodel another nine stores. The company also has signed five additional leases.

United Retail Group, Inc. (201-845-0880) is planning to open approximately 22 stores by the end of the year.

Thomasville Furniture (800-225-0265) is planning to open two stores in the San Francisco Bay area of CA. The company currently operates a store in San Jose, CA.

Movie Gallery, Inc. (334-677-2108) is planning to open 150 Movie Gallery stores throughout MN within five years. The company currently operates 1,525 stores in 42 states and five Canadian provinces. Nationwide, the company plans to open 125 stores this year and as many as 175 stores in 2003.
