The Rouse Co. and La Cantera Development Co. are developing the Shops at La Cantera, a 1.3 million sq.ft. high-end retail center in San Antonio, TX. Construction is expected to begin this year with completion slated for Spring 2004. The center is part of a 1,677-acre development at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Loop 1604. Other parts of the development include the La Cantera Golf Club and Palmer Course at La Cantera, the Six Flags Fiesta Texas theme park and the Westin La Cantera Resort. The open-air shopping center will be anchored by Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Dillard’s and Foley’s. In addition, 150 specialty shops, home furnishing stores and restaurants are planned. The Rouse Co. also is developing the Village of Merrick Park in Coral Gables, FL. The 850,000 sq.ft. mall will be situated on a 20-acre site and will be anchored by Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom. Other components include more than 100 fashion specialty retail stores, international boutiques, restaurants and cafes. The mall is expected to open in September.

The Starrett Corp. is developing a 500,000 sq.ft. retail and office complex at three Bronxchester Urban Renewal Sites in Bronx, NY. The three sites total about 250,000 sq.ft. of vacant land. The project will include 314,000 sq.ft. of office space, a 3,000 sq.ft. community center and 171,850 sq.ft. of retail space that will include a 51,500 sq.ft. supermarket. Construction is expected to begin in May 2003 and take about 18 months to complete.

BUDelran LLC is developing the Delran Town Center on Route 130 in Delran, NJ. The 390,000 sq.ft. power center will include a 165,000 sq.ft. Lowe’s and a 63,000 sq.ft. ShopRite. The project has three pad sites that include a U.S. Post Office and an 18,000 sq.ft. convenience center. Area demographics include a population of 128,789 residing in a five-mile radius earning an average household income of $75,879 and an average daily traffic count at the site of 45,000 vehicles.

North American Properties is building Cruse Marketplace, a 75,000 sq.ft. retail center in Atlanta, GA. The Publix-anchored center will be located on 18 acres at the intersection of GA 20 and Samples Road. The center is two-thirds leased to a Japanese restaurant, a dry cleaners, a nail salon and a tanning salon. The average asking rent is $21 psf. Construction began in January. The company additionally is developing Southwest Station in Eden Prarie, MN. Plans for the site include 250 apartments and 60,000 sq.ft. of restaurant, specialty retail and office space.
