Who's Opening & Where Gold’s Gym (310-392-3005) expects to open a 27 000 sq.ft. fitness facility at Gold’s Gym Plaza at West Tower formerly Loehmann’s Plaza in Richmond VA by early 2002. Joining Gold’s Gym as new tenants at the center located on West Broad Street will be The Foundry Grill and Fitness Resource. Current tenants of the 90% leased center include Steven’s Jewelers Pasta Luna Gelati Celest Peking Quizno’s Subs Heavenly Ham Calico Corners and Starbucks. Figlio (612-822-1688) plans to open a location at the Town & Country Shopping Center in Kettering OH. The site formerly housed a Peasant Stock. The company operates two other units. The Bombay Company Inc. (817-347-8200) expects to open four locations convert three stores to a new format and to close seven sites by February 2 2002. The home decor company also plans to open 17 stores convert four locations and close approximately six sites during fiscal 2002. The retailer operates 427 locations. Home Depot (770-433-8211) plans to open a 95 000 sq.ft. store with a 25 000 sq.ft. garden center in Hercules CA by early 2003. The company will be an anchor tenant of the Creekside Shopping Center which is situated on 25 acres of land. Barnes & Noble Inc. (212-633-3379) expects to open a 25 000 sq.ft. superstore in Bozeman MT during October 2002. The store will be located in the Gallatin Valley Mall. The company also plans to open a 30 000 sq.ft. store in the Kierland Commons located at the corner of Scottsdale Road and Greenway in Scottsdale AZ during March 2003. Barnes & Noble Inc. operates 569 Barnes & Noble 331 B. Dalton bookstores and 990 GameStop video game stores nationwide. The Gucci Group (201-867-8800) plans to open several stores in New York NY beginning with a 4 000 sq.ft. location on West 14th Street in the Meatpacking District of NY. The company also expects to open a site in West Village NY. Planet Beach (888-290-8266) expects to open a 1 900 sq.ft. location at the Shops at Lakeline a 100% leased 87 000 sq.ft. strip center in Austin TX. The company plans to open 10 to 15 stores in Austin TX during the next three to four years. Planet Beach operates tanning salons in AL CA CO FL GA LA MO MS NC OK TN TX and Canada with plans to open an additional 30 locations in TX.Hirsch International Corp. (800-394-4426) plans to open five Hometown Threads locations in the Tulsa OK market beginning in mid 2002. The company operates 10 embroidery supply stores in NC OK TN TX and UT. Chicos’s FAS (941-277-6200) plans to open 60 women’s apparel stores by the end of this year. American Eagle Outfitters (724-779-5259) expects to open 80 locations in the U.S. and remodel or expand 40 to 50 other locations by January 2003. The men’s and women’s apparel company opened 46 stores in Canada this year and plans to open 10 locations in Canada in 2002. American Eagle operates 631 stores in the U.S. Kohl’s (262-703-7000) expects to open about 12 locations in the Houston TX market during 2002 including an 80 000 sq.ft. store in the College Park Shopping Center located at the intersection of Interstate 45 and Texas 242. The store which joins Wal*Mart Lowe’s and Garden Ridge is expected to open during Spring 2002. Famous Dave’s of America (952-294-1300) plans to open 20 to 25 restaurants in 2002 about eight to 10 company-owned locations and approximately 12 to 15 franchised locations. The company owns and operates 37 restaurants and franchises an additional 15 sites in AL GA IA IL MD MN NE OH SD UT VA and WI. Seattle’s Best Coffee LLC (206-442-2464) plans to open 13 cafes in Austin and three cafes in Waco TX by 2006. The company operates 142 locations nationwide and expects to open at least 99 units in 2002.Kroger (513-762-4214) plans to open locations in the Richmond VA market during the coming 12 to 15 months. The supermarket chain expects to open a store on a former Homeplace site on West Broad Street in Richmond VA during August 2002. The Chinese restaurant chain operates 423 locations in 34 states. Talbots Inc. (781-749-7600) expects to open 85 locations in 2002. The women’s apparel retailer operates 787 stores nationwide.Haverty Furniture Companies Inc. (404-443-2900) plans to acquire seven former Homelife stores and transform them into Haverty showrooms. The stores are located in Clearwater and Orlando FL and in the northern VA suburbs of Washington DC. In addition to the Homelife stores the company plans to open a store in Fayetteville GA in February and relocate a store in Dallas/Fort Worth TX to Arlington TX. In 2002 the company plans to open a total of nine stores and close four locations. Haverty Furniture Companies Inc. operates 104 home furnishings showrooms in 14 southern and central states.CVS (401-765-1500) plans to open about 12 stores in the Houston TX market during 2002. The 12 000 sq.ft. freestanding pharmacies will be equipped with double drive-thrus. CVS operates 4 100 stores nationwide.Charming Shoppes Inc. (215-638-6955) expects to open 126 locations and relocate 52 stores during fiscal 2002. The company operates 2 495 stores in 48 states under the brands Lane Bryant Fashion Bug Fashion Bug Plus Catherine’s Plus Size The Answer Added Dimensions Monsoon and Accessorize. Tweeter Home Entertainment Group Inc. (781-830-3314) plans to open 16 locations and relocate four stores in 2002. The electronics retailer operates 151 stores under the brands Tweeter HiFi Buys Sound Advice Bang & Olufsen Electronic Interiors Showcase Home Entertainment and Great Indoor’s Home Theater. The company operates stores in New England; TX; San Diego CA; FL; Chicago IL; Phoenix AZ and the mid-Atlantic and southeastern states. Borders Group Inc. (734-477-1100) expects to open a 15 000 sq.ft. superstore at The Avenue of the Peninsula a shopping center in Los Angeles CA during Spring 2002. The company will join Saks Fifth Avenue Pottery Barn and Regal Cinemas in the 371 000 sq.ft. center which is located on Silver Spur Road. Borders Group Inc. operates more than 350 Borders 33 Books etc. and approximately 850 Waldenbooks locations nationwide. Trader Joe’s (781-433-0234) plans to open stores in Chicago and in southwest suburban LaGrange IL next year. The specialty grocery store chain operates 131 locations in AZ CA MA MD NV NY OR VA and WA. Abercrombie & Fitch (614-283-6500) expects to open a Hollister Co. store at the 800 000 sq.ft. Circle Centre Mall in Indianapolis IN. The store replaces a Warner Bros. Studio Store that closed in July. |
