Who's Opening & Where Nick-N-Willy’s Franchise Company, LLC (303-706-9090) plans to open more than 250 locations as part of the company’s long-term growth strategy. The take and bake pizza chain operates 14 locations in AZ, CA, CO, IL, NC and TN. Knick Knacks Crafts & Antique Mall (972-283-9007) is opening a 15,360 sq.ft. store at Six Flags Mall in Arlington, TX. The store will be located in space that formerly was occupied by JCPenney. The company operates one location in Duncanville, TX. Eckerd Corp. (800-325-3737) is opening two 14,000 sq.ft. drug store locations in Valdosta, GA this year. Each store will have a drive-thru pharmacy window. Construction for both locations began last month with openings expected by the end of the year. The company also plans to enter the Phoenix and Tuscon, AZ markets late this year. Long-term plans call for 60 store openings in the market by the end of 2004. The company operates 2,640 drug stores in 20 states. Casa Fiesta (615-871-9490) is opening a Mexicali Grill location at Carothers Corner in Franklin, TN. The restaurant will open in space formerly occupied by Julia’s Restaurant, which closed last July. The owners operate about 20 Casa Fiesta Mexican restaurants in the southeast. Mexicali Grill will offer the same type of menu as the other restaurants, but in a more upscale environment. The Melting Pot Restaurants, Inc. (813-881-0055) is looking to open locations in Phoenix and Scottsdale, AZ; San Jose, Sacramento and San Diego, CA; Minneapolis, MN; St. Louis, MO and Las Vegas, NV. The dinner-only restaurants, specializing in fondue, occupy spaces of 4,500 sq.ft. to 6,500 sq.ft. The company operates 56 restaurants nationwide. Company Leasing Strategies (949-499-3640) is representing the company with its expansions plans.The Musicland Group, Inc. (952-931-8367) plans to open 30 Sam Goody stores in rural markets during 2002. In addition, the company’s 200 On Cue music stores will begin operating as Sam Goody this month. The Musicland Group, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Best Buy Co., operates 1,321 stores in the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands under the names Sam Goody, Suncoast, Media Play and On Cue. Claire’s Stores Inc. (954-433-3900) plans to open 185 stores in fiscal 2003. Of the store openings, 125 will be in Europe. The retailer of preteen and teen accessories, costume jewelry and apparel operates more than 3,000 stores. Wegmans Food Markets Inc. (800-934-6267) is planning to open a supermarket in Sterling, VA. The 130,000 sq.ft. store will be built at a former Wal*Mart site. If the company’s site plans are approved, the store is expected to open in late 2003 or early 2004. The company also is planning to open a second site in Fairfax County, VA. A 125,000 sq.ft. store is planned, but a construction schedule and opening date have not yet been determined. Rezoning and site plan approval are needed. The company’s long-term plans include continued expansion into MD and northern VA. The supermarket chain operates 62 locations in NJ, NY and PA.The Home Depot, Inc. (770-433-8211) plans to open three freestanding lawn and garden nursery stores by next year. The stores, which will sell plants and other lawn products, will be built in GA. The chain of home improvement centers operates more than 1,350 stores throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico.Best Buy Co. (952-947-2000) plans to open 10 stores at the following locations during 2002 and 2003: 60 West 23rd Street in Chelsea, NY; Ceasar’s Bay Shopping Center in Brooklyn, NY; Route 25 in Commack, NY; 2130 Route 35 in Holmdel, NJ; Old Country and Mill Roads in Riverhead, NY; Route 110 in Huntington Station, NY; East Sanford Boulevard and Belford Avenue in Mt. Vernon, NY; Route 70 and Chambers Bridge Road in Brick, NJ; Mid State Mall in East Burnswick, NJ and 300 Commons Way in Bridgewater, NJ. The company’s expansion plans include 35 store openings in NJ and NY. More than 490 Best Buy locations operate in the U.S., 19 of which are in the NJ and NY area. The May Department Stores Co. (314-342-6300) is opening a Hecht’s store on Hornaday Road in Greensboro, NC. The company, which operates 439 stores, 59 of which trade as Hecht’s, plans to open more than 200 department stores during the next few years.Weis Markets Inc. (570-286-4571) plans to open five superstores and remodel or expand 12 stores this year. The company operates 162 stores as Weis, Mr Z’s or Weis/King’s in PA, MD, NJ, NY, VA and WV. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. (405-745-1100) is opening a location at Concord Mall in Elkhart, IN. The store will occupy 61,700 sq.ft. of a 90,000 sq.ft. former Montgomery Ward location. The company operates about 280 stores in 24 mostly midwestern states, selling arts and craft supplies, candles, baskets, silk flowers, home decorating accessories and frames. Kohl’s Corp. (262-703-7000) plans to enter the Providence, RI market with four store openings this Fall. The openings are part of the company’s previously announced plan to open 70 stores this year. The department store chain operates 394 stores in 29 states.Michaels Stores Inc. (800-642-4235) plans to open 65 Michaels stores and 15 Aaron Brothers stores this year. Long-term expansion plans include the opening of 65 to 75 Michaels stores and 15 to 35 Aaron Brothers stores annually. The company operates more than 600 Michaels arts and crafts stores and 120 Aaron Brothers framing locations nationwide. Pathmark Stores, Inc. (732-499-3000) plans to open six stores and renovate 19 stores during fiscal 2002. The supermarket chain operates 141 stores throughout, DE, NJ, NY and PA.Roly Poly (904-246-8565) is opening two sandwich shops in the Fort Worth, TX area by July. The shops will open at University Park Village in Fort Worth and The Crossing in North Richland Hills. The openings represent the company’s plan to expand throughout TX and the southwest. The company operates more than 80 locations in AL, AZ, CT, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, LA, NC, NM, OH, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX and VA. 99 Cents Only Stores (323-980-8145) plans to increase its store count by 25% during 2002. The dollar store chain operates 132 stores. Whole Foods Market, Inc. (512-391-8400) plans to open an 80,000 sq.ft. landmark store and 200,000 sq.ft. office tower in Austin, TX. Construction is expected to start this year with completion slated for early 2005. The store will be the largest Whole Foods Market and double the size of the company’s current Austin location. The organic foods supermarket chain operates more than 130 stores in the U.S. Copeland’s Sports (800-383-9525) plans to open a superstore in Sonoma County, CA. The store will replace a location at Santa Rosa Plaza in Berkeley, CA that the company closed. The 46-store sporting goods chain operates throughout CA, NV, OR and UT.The TJX Companies, Inc. (508-390-1000) is opening an A.J. Wright store in Dayton, FL during September. The store will be located at Eastown Shopping Center on Linden Avenue. The retailer of branded family apparel, accessories, shoes, domestics and giftware operates more than 45 locations, mostly in the northeast. |
