Osco Drug (847-455-0633) plans to close 15 of its 30 locations in IA. The company will close 11 Des Moines locations and stores in Ames, Newton, Marion and Coralville. Three of the Des Moines locations were sold to Walgreens Co. The closures are part of the company’s previously announced plan to restructure business nationally and to close about 165 underperforming stores.

J.C. Penney Co. (972-431-1000) closed an underperforming, 106,000 sq.ft. JCPenney catalog outlet store at Great Lake Crossing in Auburn Hills, MI. The company operates 1,075 JCPenney department stores in 50 states, Puerto Rico and Mexico.

Ralphs Grocery Co. (310-884-9000) closed its East Eighth Street location in Davis, CA. The lease has two years remaining and the company is looking for a tenant to sublease the space. Ralphs Grocery Co., a division of The Kroger Co., operates more than 450 conventional and warehouse-style supermarkets under the brand names Ralphs, Food 4 Less, Foods Co. and Cala/Bell in CA and southern NV.

Ro-Jacks (508-339-2223) is closing four supermarket locations. Stores in East Greenwich and Wakefield, RI and North Attleboro and Mansfield, MA were closed this month. The store closings are part of a plan to control costs by eliminating less profitable stores. The company operates six additional stores in Cranston, Pawtucket, Cumberland, RI and Seekonk, North Attleboro and South Attleboro, MA.

Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. (904-783-5000) plans to close its operations in OK and TX due to continued losses and a reduction of market share due to competition from Wal*Mart Stores Inc. The company will close its 71 stores in TX and five stores in OK. The restructuring is expected to be complete by the end of this month.

Elder-Beerman Stores Corp. (937-296-2700) is closing its Courthouse Plaza department store in Dayton, OH during August. Of the company’s 67 stores, eight locations operate in the Dayton area.

Earful of Books, Inc. (512-499-3600) closed all five of its company-owned stores and one store in which it was a part owner. The company is considering alternatives, including obtaining funding from third parties for a reorganization or selling its assets to maximize payments to creditors.

Regal Entertainment (865-922-1123) closed Sameric Theater at 1908 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, PA. The company operates 550 locations in 36 states.

Kmart Corp. (248-643-1000) and J.C. Penney Co. (972-431-1000) are closing store locations in Beatrice, NE this Summer. Kmart will close due to the company’s bankruptcy filing.

Spiegel Inc. (630-986-8800) is closing an Eddie Bauer location in Washington Commons, WI, as part of the company’s plan to close underperforming stores. The company operates more than 530 Eddie Bauer retail and outlet stores in the U.S. and Canada.
