Who's Opening & Where Home Depot Inc. (770-433-8211) is opening a 96,000 sq.ft. store in Klamath Falls, OR. Construction began in March and opening is slated for September. The company plans to open 200 stores this year. The home improvement chain operates 1,234 Home Depot stores throughout the U.S. Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. (781-380-8000) is opening a 58,000 sq.ft Stop & Shop in Belchertown, MA. Construction began during April and the store is expected to open by the end of the year. More than 320 Stop & Shops operate in New England, NJ and NY. The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. (330-796-2121) is opening a 7,100 sq.ft. 10-bay Goodyear Tire and Auto Service Center in the northwest 107th Avenue corridor in Miami-Dade County, FL. Construction began during April and completion is slated for early Fall. The company operates more than 2,000 auto, tire and service centers. OshKosh B’Gosh, Inc. (920-231-8800) plans to open 11 stores this year, with three stores slated to open during the second quarter of 2002. The children’s apparel and accessory retailer operates 141 stores, including 134 factory outlet stores, two showcase stores and five traditional stores. Coach, Inc. (212-594-1850) plans to open six stores in the U.S. during the fourth quarter of fiscal 2002, which ends in July 2002. The retailer of better accessories operates 121 full-price stores and 68 factory stores in the U.S. Pyramid Breweries Inc. (206-682-8322) plans to open a Pyramid Alehouse in Sacramento, CA at the intersection of 11th and K Streets. The 9,100 sq.ft. location, which will be the company’s fourth, will house a restaurant and brewery. The company’s other breweries are located in Berkeley and Walnut Creek, CA and Seattle, WA. Darden Restaurants, Inc. (407-245-5366) is opening an Olive Garden location at the intersection of Sixth and Hennepin Streets in Minneapolis, MN. The restaurant is expected to open during Summer 2003. Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. (336-726-8917) is opening two stores in Buffalo, NY and two stores in West Palm Beach, FL through a joint venture with Dynamic Holding Co., a franchisee. The company recently consolidated the company-owned Miami, FL market with the franchised West Palm Beach, FL market. Both will be operated by Dynamic Holding Co., which also is a Krispy Kreme franchisee for Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany, NY. More than 215 Krispy Kreme locations operate in 33 states. Chick-fil-A, Inc. (404-765-8000) plans to expand in the Valley area of Phoenix, AZ. Plans include 12 to 15 freestanding restaurant openings during the next two to three years. The fast-food restaurant chain operates more than 820 locations nationwide, of which six are located in AZ.The Sports Club Co. (310-479-5200) is opening a two-story 40,000 sq.ft. The Sports Club/LA at 9601 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills, CA. The company operates nine fitness centers in CA, NY, NV and Washington, DC. Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. (904-783-5000) has two supermarkets under construction as part of the company’s plan to open five stores by the end of fiscal 2002, which ends in June. The company operates 1,150 stores. Rainbow Rentals, Inc. (330-533-5363) plans to open two stores during the second quarter and six stores during the third quarter of 2002. The retailer of appliances, electronics, computers and furniture operates 116 rental-purchase stores in CT, DE, MA, MI, NC, NY, OH, PA, RI, SC, TN and VA. Haircolorxpress International LLC (954-315-4900) signed three development-agents contracts, which represent a commitment to develop 407 stores during the next eight years. The company entered agreements for Boston, MA; CT; MN and New York, NY. The salons typically are 1,500 sq.ft. Four Haircolorxpress salons currently are open and 10 are expected to open soon. Fresh Choice, Inc. (408-776-0799) plans to open six to eight restaurants in northern CA during 2002. The company operates 47 restaurants under the Fresh Choice and Zoopa brand names in CA, TX and WA. Haverty Furniture Companies, Inc. (404-443-2900) plans to open 11 stores this year, three of which replace existing locations. The home furnishings retailer operates 104 showrooms in 14 southern and central states. Raymour & Flanigan Co. (315-453-2510) plans to open a 56,000 sq.ft. store at a former Bradlees location at 410 Reidville Drive in Waterbury, CT during September. The furniture retailer plans to open an additional five stores in CT this year, including a location on Post Road in Orange. The company operates 45 stores in five northeastern states. Gristede’s Foods, Inc. (212-956-5803) plans to open two stores this year. The company operates more than 40 supermarkets in the metro area of New York, NY. Linens ‘n Things, Inc. (973-778-1300) plans to open about 50 stores this year. Stores are scheduled to open during the second quarter in Englewood, CO; Chino, CA; Brewster, NY; Smithfield, RI and Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The retailer of home textiles, housewares and decorative home accessories operates 348 stores in 43 states and in Canada. Galen’s of Ephrata (717-738-2011) plans to move to a 32,000 sq.ft. location on North Reading Road in Ephrata, PA that formerly was occupied by Pharmhouse. The location will replace the department store’s current store at Lincoln Mall on West Main Street in Ephrata. The Jan Companies (401-946-4000) is opening a Newport Creamery restaurant at a former Friendly’s location on Atwood Avenue in Johnston, RI. The company, which purchased the bankrupt restaurant chain in December, also plans to open two former locations in North Kingstown and Bristol, RI. About 25 Newport Creamery restaurants are expected to be operating within two to three years. The company currently operates 13 locations in CT and MA. The Kroger Co. (513-762-4000) plans to open three supermarkets in the Richmond, VA market during the next nine months, as well as opening two to three stores annually. The company’s Richmond plans include a location at a former HomePlace store in Henrico County that will open this Fall, a location on Hull Street Road in Chesterfield County that will open late this year and a location near Broad and Lombardy Streets in Richmond that will open next year. AFC Enterprises, Inc. (866-551-2323) franchised the rights to build four Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits restaurants in the northwest AR markets to Magnus Oil Co. The franchisee will open restaurants in Bald Knob, Mountain Home and Harrison. AFC Enterprises, Inc. and its franchisees operate more than 3,850 restaurants, bakeries and cafes in more than 30 countries. |
