Who's Opening & Where

Beverages & More! (925-609-6000) is opening up to six stores by the end of 2002. The company operates 23 stores in the San Francisco, Sacramento, San Diego and Orange County areas of CA.

Del Taco Inc. (949-462-9300) plans to open 120 restaurants in the western states this year. The openings will bring the Mexican restaurant chain to operating more than 500 restaurants in 12 states.

The Penn Traffic Co. (315-457-9460) is opening a P&C Foods location at Towne Center at Fayetteville shopping center in Fayetteville, NY. The company operates more than 70 supermarkets in NH, upstate NY, northern PA and VT.

Hannaford Bros. (207-883-2911) plans to open a supermarket at the intersection of Hawkes Street and William Clark Drive in Westbrook, ME. The company currently operates 114 supermarkets in MA, ME, NH, NY and VT under the names of Shop ‘n Save and Hannaford Food and Drug Superstores.

Goody’s Family Clothing Inc. (865-966-2000) plans to open two stores during 2002 and relocate or remodel four existing stores. The company operates more than 320 stores in 18 southeastern states.

Ingles Markets Inc. (828-669-2941) plans to open two supermarkets and replace an existing supermarket by September, which is the end of the company’s fiscal year. The company operates 203 supermarkets in AL, GA, NC, SC, TN and VA.

Aldi, Inc. (630-879-8100) may open a 15,000 sq.ft. grocery store in Lowell, IN this year if the planning commission approves the subdivision. The company operates 578 stores in 21 states from KS to the eastern seaboard.

The Leather Factory, Inc. (817-496-4414) will open its first Tandy Leather store location in Oklahoma City, OK. The 3,160 sq.ft. store will be opened at a location the company recently acquired from Oklahoma Leather Supply, an existing leathercraft store.

Chicken Out Rotisserie (301-921-0600) plans to triple in size during the next five years. The company currently operates 30 units in GA, MD, NC, VA and Washington, DC.

Specialty Restaurant Development, LLC (407-661-3151) opened a Green Hills Grille location in Knoxville, TN last month. A Cool Springs, TN location also is planned for the Santa Fe-style restaurant. The company operates two other Green Hills Grille locations in AL and TN.

Sears, Roebuck and Co. (847-286-2500) is opening a Sears at a former Montgomery Ward location at the Cottonwood Mall in Albuquerque, NM. The two-level 106,000 sq.ft. store is being remodeled and will include Sears’ new central checkout format. The store is expected to open this month.

Bojangles Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits (800-366-9921) is opening a location at 2767 North King Drive in Milwaukee, WI. The restaurant is franchised from Bojangles Restaurants Inc., which operates 188 restaurants in 10 states. The franchisee plans to open five Bojangles Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits in the Milwaukee area.

Max & Erma’s Restaurants Inc. (614-431-5800) plans to open six to seven restaurants during 2002, in addition to franchised restaurant openings. Three Max & Erma’s locations are under construction and expected to open during the first half of 2002. The company operates more than 50 restaurants in GA, IL, IN, KY, MI, MO, NC, OH, PA, SC, TN, VA, WI and WV.

The Sherwin-Williams Co. (216-566-2000) plans to open 25 stores this year. The company operates more than 2,400 specialty paint stores in the U.S., Canada, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Mexico.

Cold Stone Creamery (480-348-1704) plans to open ice cream stores nationwide this year. The company is focusing on TN, where the company has awarded three franchises and plans to have five to six units operating. Cold Stone Creamery locations average 1,200 sq.ft. and operate in shopping centers, malls and lifestyle centers. In excess of 320 locations are franchised in more than 27 states and the company plans to have 1,000 units operating by 2004.

Lowes Foods (336-659-0180) plans to open a 50,000 sq.ft. supermarket at the Holly Springs Crossing Shopping Center in Holly Springs, NC during Spring 2003. The company operates more than 100 stores in NC.

BJ’s Wholesale Club, Inc. (508-651-7400) plans to open a 108,000 sq.ft. wholesale club at the Hanover Square South Shopping Center in Mechanicsville, VA during the second quarter of 2002. The company operates 125 clubs in the U.S.

Trader Joe’s (626-599-3767) plans to open a 10,200 sq.ft. supermarket at the South Shore Center in Alameda, CA during the Fall. Trader Joe’s operates 131 stores in AZ, CA, CT, MA, MD, NJ, NV, NY, OR, VA and WA.

McDonald’s Corp. (630-623-3000) plans to open 1,300 to 1,400 restaurants during 2002. As part of this expansion, the company is opening a 3,500 sq.ft. restaurant at the Tejon Industrial Complex at the intersection of Highway 99 and Interstate 5 in Bakersfield, CA and a 4,200 sq.ft. restaurant on the corner of Northeast 99th Street and 117th Avenue in Vancouver, WA. The Bakersfield restaurant will open this Summer. In addition, the company plans to open 100 to 150 Aroma Cafe, Boston Market, Chipolte and Donatos Pizza locations this year. The fast-food chain operates more than 28,000 locations around the world, 12,000 of which are in the U.S.

Tumbleweed Inc. (502-893-0323) is opening two prototype Tumbleweed Southwest Mesquite Grill & Bar restaurants in central OH this year. The company operates 36 locations and franchises about 30 restaurants in IL, IN, KY, MI, OH, VA, WI and internationally.

Dave & Buster’s, Inc. (214-904-2288) plans to open a location during the Summer. The company operates 31 restaurant and entertainment complex locations in the U.S.

Fry’s Electronics (408-487-4500) plans to open a 146,500 sq.ft. location at 1695 Willow Pass Road in Concord, CA. The large-scale electronics store will be housed in a former Levitz Furniture building at the Park & Shop Center. The company operates more than 19 stores in AZ, CA, OR and TX.

Pier 1 Imports (817-878-8000) plans to open a 10,000 sq.ft. store in Genoa Township, MI. The household goods and furniture retailer operates more than 820 stores in 48 states, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom and Japan.

Delia’s Corp. (212-807-9060) plans to open 20 stores during 2002. The retailer of apparel and accessories for teenage girls operates 46 stores nationwide.

Moestogo Corp. (603-472-8008) reopened the original Moe’s Italian Sandwich Shop in Manchester, NH through a franchisee. The store, which is located a 1093 Elm Street, underwent a complete indoor and outdoor renovation, featuring a new color scheme, dining room decor and an expanded menu. The location will serve as a prototype for future franchise operations. Currently, 13 franchised Moe’s Italian Sandwich Shops operate throughout northern New England. The company has plans for additional expansion.
