Who's Opening & Where

The Children’s Place Retail Stores, Inc. (201-558-2400) plans to enter the Canadian market by acquiring 23 store leases and assets from Au Coindes Petits/Young Canada, a division of Comark, Inc. The Children’s Place Retail Stores, Inc. will acquire 12 stores in Quebec and 11 stores in Ontario and convert the acquired locations into Children’s Place stores. The stores are expected to reopen during the third quarter of fiscal 2002, which ends next February. The specialty retailer of value-priced apparel and accessories for children operates 520 stores in 46 U.S. states.

Factory 2-U Stores, Inc. (858-627-1800) plans to open 30 stores during fiscal 2002, which ends in February 2003. Openings will include stores in Chicago, IL and Atlanta, GA, which are new markets for the company. The retailer of off-price apparel and housewares also is closing 28 unprofitable stores. The company operates 279 stores in AL, AR, AZ, MO, MS, NM, NV, OK, OR, TN, TX and WA.

Whole Health Natural Foods Market (417-888-2900) plans to open 10 stores during the next 10 years, including a location in Kansas City, MO.

Barnes & Noble, Inc. (212-633-3300) plans to open a superstore at the intersection of State of Franklin Road and Interstate 181 in Johnson City, TN. The 24,000 sq.ft. store will open during March 2003. The company operates 582 Barnes & Noble locations nationwide.

Target Corp. (612-370-6948) is opening a location in Lansing, NY during October. The 125,000 sq.ft. store will be located in the Pyramid Mall at 40 Catherwood Road. In addition, the company is opening a location at 725 Hebron Parkway in Dallas, TX. The company operates 1,055 stores in 47 states.

Larry Flynt Publishing Inc. (323-651-5400) founder Larry Flynt is opening a Hustler erotic boutique in the Gaslamp Quarter of San Francisco, CA. The 12,000 sq.ft. store will have a coffee bar, adult videos and DVDs, literature, toys and Hustler-style clothing.

The May Department Stores Co. (314-342-6250) is opening a 180,000 sq.ft. Hecht’s store at the Mall at Green Hills in Nashville, TN to replace its 139,000 sq.ft. location at the mall. Construction is expected to begin in Fall 2003 with opening slated for August 2004.

Jos A. Bank Clothiers (410-239-2700) is opening eight to 13 stores during the first half of 2002. The company expects to open 20 or more stores this year. The new stores will be located in malls, lifestyle centers and street-front shopping districts. The retailer of men’s tailored and casual clothing operates 135 stores nationwide.

Buffalo Wild Wings (952-593-9943) plans to open 38 locations this year, including one in Coon Rapids, MN. The restaurants average about 5,000 sq.ft. The restaurant and bar chain, specializing in chicken wings, operates 159 locations.

Chicago Pizza & Brewery Inc. (714-848-3747) is opening locations in Lewisville, TX and Cupertino, CA. The chain of casual dining restaurants operates 27 locations in CA, CO and OR, some of which include microbreweries.

Ralphs Grocery Co. (310-884-9000) plans to open several supermarket locations with fuel stations during the next two years. The company operates more than 450 supermarkets, including more than 210 fuel centers.

Brown Shoe Company, Inc. (314-854-4000) plans to open 70 stores during fiscal 2002, which ends next February. The store openings will include 50 Famous Footwear locations and 20 Naturalizer stores, including a flagship Naturalizer store on Lexington Avenue in New York, NY. The company operates 920 Famous Footwear locations and 456 Naturalizer stores nationwide.

Chipolte (303-390-0639) is opening a restaurant on north Manhattan Avenue in Aggieville, KS this May. The restaurant chain specializing in gourmet Mexican food operates 24 locations nationwide.

Party City Corp. (973-983-0888) is opening 15 to 18 company-owned stores this year. The party goods chain operates 198 company-owned stores and 272 franchised locations.

KKNY LLC (973-945-8507) plans to open four Krispy Kreme doughnut shop locations in Long Island, NY and northern NJ this year and six more locations next year. The company, a Krispy Kreme franchisee, operates five stores in Manhattan.

Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (650-837-5000) plans to open a Wal*Mart store in Bethlehem, PA. The company is converting a former 87,000 sq.ft. Bradlees location on Route 191. The company operates 2,700 locations nationwide.

The Home Depot, Inc. (770-433-8211) plans to open a store at 130 Gold Star Boulevard in Worcester, MA. The store will open at a former 117,362 sq.ft. Bradlees location. The company operates 1,164 stores in the U.S.

Designs, Inc. (781-444-7222) plans to open eight to 10 Candies outlets by the middle of this year. The company operates 103 Candies, Levi’s and Dockers outlets throughout the eastern U.S. and Puerto Rico.

Linens ‘n Things, Inc. (973-815-2929) plans to open about 50 stores in the U.S. and Canada during 2002. Stores scheduled to open during the first quarter include locations in Hillsboro, OR; Mayfield Heights, OH; Oxford Valley, PA; Commack, NY; Wellington, FL and Holmdel, NJ. The retailer of home textiles, housewares and home accessories operates 343 stores in 43 states and in Canada.

Ann Taylor Stores Corp. (212-541-3300) plans to open 45 stores during fiscal 2002, which ends February 2003. The openings will comprise about seven Ann Taylor stores and 38 Ann Taylor Loft stores. During the first quarter, the company planned to open one Ann Taylor store and 10 Ann Taylor Loft stores. During the second quarter, the company plans to open one Ann Taylor store and three Ann Taylor Loft stores. The retailer of women’s apparel operates 538 stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

Buca, Inc. (612-288-2382) plans to open 14 Bucco di Beppo restaurants this year: seven during the first quarter, three during the second quarter, three during the third quarter and one during the fourth quarter. The company operates 80 locations under the names Bucco di Beppo and Vinny Testa’s in AZ, CA, CO, FL, HI, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, MI, MN, MS, NE, NV, NY, OH, PA, TX, UT, WA, WI and Washington, DC.

Gap Inc. (949-719-0829) is opening an Old Navy location in Fox Valley, WI. The 20,000 sq.ft. store will be located on West Grande Market Drive. The company operates more than 650 Old Navy stores in the U.S. and Canada.
