Who's Opening & Where

Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (650-837-5000) is planning to open Wal*Mart Supercenter stores in Eastgate, Fort Wright and Fairfield Township in the Cincinnati, OH market. The company currently operates 1,179 supercenters. The Eastgate stores is currently a Wal*Mart, but the company is looking to expand it to a 204,000 sq.ft. superstore. The Fort Wright location would be a new 184,000 sq.ft. store at the intersection of Interstate 275 and KY 17, while the Wal*Mart in Fairfield Township at the intersection of Ohio Bypass 4 and Princeton Road also will likely be converted to a supercenter. Overall, the company plans to open 45 to 55 discount stores and 200 to 210 Supercenters, while adding approximately 20 to 25 Neighborhood Market stores during 2003. Wal*Mart International plans to open 120 to 130 locations in existing markets, including two restaurant formats, specialty apparel retail stores and supermarkets in Mexico.

The Finish Line (317-899-1022) plans to open 35 to 38 stores nationwide.

CBRL Group, Inc. (615-444-5533) plans to open 23 Cracker Barrel units and 12 Logan’s Restaurants company-operated restaurants during fiscal 2003. The company currently operates 457 Cracker Barrel Old Country Store restaurants and gifts shops in 41 states and 85 company-operated and 12 franchised Logan’s Roadhouse restaurants in 17 states.

DeBeers (212-984-8073) plans to open its first store in the U.S. The 7,519 sq.ft. jewelry store will be located within the St. Regis Hotel, located at 701-703 Fifth Avenue in New York, NY.

Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano (309-664-2148) is planning to open five restaurants annually during 2003, 2004 and 2005. The company’s plan is to operate 25 locations by the end of 2005. The first three openings in 2003 will include units in Barrington, IL; Colorado Springs, CO and Richmond, VA.

Havana Central (212-414-4999) is planning to open a restaurant in New York, NY this year. The company also is planning to open three units during 2003.

Marsh Supermarkets, Inc. (317-594-2627) is planning to open a Savin’s Mercado supermarket in Indianapolis, IN.

O’Reilly Automotive, Inc. (417-862-3333) is planning to open 6,400 sq.ft. stores in the Knoxville, TN market, with locations on Chapman Highway, Magnolia Avenue and Kingston Pike. The company also is planning to open stores in Alcoa and Maryville, TN.

Bashas’, Inc. (480-895-9350) is planning to open a 26,000 sq.ft. AJ’s Fine Foods supermarket located at the intersection of 67th Avenue and Beardsley Road during April 2003 in the West Valley area of Phoenix, AZ. The company also is planning to open a Bashas’ store at the intersection of 99th Avenue and Beardsley Road in the Peoria section of Phoenix, AZ during early next year. The company operates about 130 stores under four names, including AJ’s Fine Foods, Food City, Dine Markets and Bashas’ and plans to open six to 10 stores annually.

Family Dollar Stores, Inc. (704-847-6961) is planning to open 575 Family Dollar stores during 2003 and expand or relocate 150 stores. The company currently operates 4,615 stores in 41states.

Borders Group, Inc. (734-477-1100) is planning to open a 30,000 sq.ft. Borders Books & Music store at 100 Broadway in New York, NY.

Von Maur, Inc. (630-377-9987) is planning to open a 156,000 sq.ft. store at Oxmoor Center on Shelbyville Road in Louisville, KY during Fall 2003. The company currently operates 18 department stores in six states.

Damon’s International (614-442-7900) is planning to open 10 restaurants, with locations in Washington, DC, northern VA and southern and western MD.

Galyan’s Trading Co. (317-612-2000) is planning to open an 84,000 sq.ft. Galyan’s Sports and Outdoor Adventure Store at the Westroads Shopping Center at the intersection of Interstate 680 and West Dodge Road in Omaha, NE. The company currently operates 29 sporting goods stores in 16 markets and plans to expand to 35 stores this year.

Applebee’s International, Inc. (913-967-4000) is planning to open an Applebee’s restaurant at the Crest Plaza Shopping Center in Allentown, PA this year.

Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (336-658-4000) is planning to open a Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse store at the Blue Mountain Mall located at the intersection of Poplar Street and Myra Road in Walla Walla, WA. Construction is expected to begin during Spring 2003, with completion slated during January 2004. The company currently operates 800 stores in 42 states. The company also is planning to open 60 stores in the New York, NY area over the next several years and 130 stores in the northeast during 2003.

Bass Pro Shops (417-873-5000) is planning to open 15 stores in 10 states.

Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. (781-380-8000) is planning to open a supermarket, two smaller retail stores and a gas station at the site of a former Caldor on Route 3 in Bedford, NH.

Saks, Inc. (301-652-2250) is planning to open an 84,000 sq.ft. Younkers department store in the Meridian Mall in Okemos, MI. The store will take over the space formerly occupied by Jacobson’s. Opening is scheduled during Spring 2003. The company currently operates 50 Younkers stores throughout the Midwest, including seven stores in MI. The company also is planning to open a 120,000 sq.ft. Saks store at The Fashion Mall at Keystone in Indianapolis, IN.

Walgreens Co. (847-914-2500) is planning to open a store during Spring 2003 at the intersection of South McCall Road and Oriole Boulevard in Englewood, FL. Overall, the company plans to open 450 stores during fiscal 2003.

Subway (800-888-4848) is planning to open four shops in Baton Rouge, LA.

Sonic Corp. (405-280-7654) is planning to open Sonic restaurants in Jacksonville, FL and Baton Rouge, LA.

IHOP Corp. (818-240-6055) is planning to open a 4,000 sq.ft. restaurant at 3285 Elida Road in Elida, OH during February. The company currently operates 1,040 locations in 42 states and Canada.

PF Chang’s China Bistro, Inc. (602-957-8986) is planning to open a restaurant in Fairfax, VA at the intersection of Route 1 and Monument Drive. The company currently operates 73 restaurants nationwide, including Washington, DC-area locations in Rockville and Columbia, MD and Tysons Corner, VA.

PLEJ’S Bed, Bath, Curtains (803-326-4074) is looking to open PLEJ’S Linen Supermarket locations in NC, SC, TN and VA.

Runza Restaurants (402-423-2394) is planning to open three to five restaurants a year. The company currently operates 61 locations throughout NE, plus five locations in CO, IA and KS.

AutoZone (901-495-6500) opened a 5,000 sq.ft. store at 3540 North 5th in Reading, PA. The company also opened an 8,000 sq.ft. store at 3613 North Josey Lane in Carrollton, TX. AutoZone also opened a 5,000 sq.ft. store at 975 North State Street in Ukiah, CA. The company currently operates 3,068 stores in 44 states and Washington, DC in the U.S. and 39 AutoZone stores in Mexico.
