Closings Spartan Stores, Inc. (616-878-2000) is closing 13 Food Town stores, principally located in the Toledo, OH area and outlying areas because of declining sales. The company owns and operates 94 supermarkets and 21 deep-discount drug stores in MI and OH, including Ashcraft’s Markets, Family Fare Supermarkets, Food Town, Glen’s Markets, Great Day Food Centers, Prevo’s Family Markets and The Pharm. Save-A-Lot (314-592-9100) is closing its store at 110 South Eaton Street in Albion, MI. In addition to the Albion location, Save-A-Lot operates stores in Battle Creek, Charlotte, Coldwater, Hillsdale and Jackson. The company also opened a store this year in Marshall, which is the closest store to Albion. Today’s Man, Inc. (856-235-5656) has filed for bankruptcy for the second time in seven years. The company currently operates 29 stores in the Philadelphia, PA area, as well as in NY and Washington, DC. Gateway, Inc. (858-848-3401) closed four stores this year, and is planning to shutter more locations to reduce expenses. Craft World (541-687-8546) is planning to close its six hobby and craft stores and go out of business during the next year or two. The company is closing its stores after a failed search to find a buyer. The company cites competition from national chains as a reason for its closing. Furr’s Restaurant Group, Inc. (972-808-2923) closed its restaurant at 3220 S.W. Topeka Boulevard in Topeka, KS. The company declared bankruptcy in January. Bozzuto’s, Inc. (203-272-3511) is planning to close its Adams Super Food Store in Seymour, CT because of increased competition and lack of profits. Rent-Way (814-455-5378) is planning to close locations at Eisenhower Parkway and Shurling Drive in Macon, GA and one in Warner Robins, GA. |
