Whole Foods Market, Inc. (512-391-8400) opened a 40,000 sq.ft. store at the Midtown Place Shopping Center located at 650 Ponce de Leon Avenue in Atlanta, GA. The center is cotenanted by The Home Depot, Borders Books & Music, Staples and PetsMart. The store features a 48-foot seafood counter, all-natural meat counter including a dry-aged beef room, wine shop with wine steward, antipasto bar and an expanded prepared foods area and cafe with seating. It is the third store the company has opened in its second fiscal quarter and the eighth store the company opened this fiscal year to date. The company currently operates 143 stores throughout North America and has 22 stores in development, averaging 42,000 sq.ft.

Pacific Sunwear of California, Inc. (714-414-4000) is planning to expand to 1,200 stores during the coming three to four years.

Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (650-837-5000) is planning to open a Sam’s Club warehouse store at 2151 Shepard Road in Normal, IL. The store will be situated on a land area of 15 acres just south of Menards. The company also is planning to open a Wal*Mart Supercenter on Melody Mountain in Catlettsburg, KY.

Kohl’s Corp. (262-703-7000) is planning to open a 96,000 sq.ft. store in Costa Mesa, CA. The store would take over a space formerly occupied by Kona Lanes bowling alley, Edwards Theatre and Ice Capades Chalet.

The Vitamin Shoppe Industries, Inc. (201-210-3005) is planning to open a 4,000 sq.ft. The Vitamin Shoppe store at the Palmdale Marketplace located at 39256 10th Street West in Palmdale, CA. The center is tenanted by Baja Fresh, Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Jamba Juice, Linens ‘n Things, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Party City, Ross, Sports Chalet, Staples and Target. The company currently operates 130 stores nationwide. The company also is planning to open a store at 195 Harbison Boulevard in Columbia, SC. Opening is slated for May. The 4,000 sq.ft. store will be within a block of Columbiana Mall.

IKEA (610-834-0180) is planning to open a 330,000 sq.ft. store situated on a land area of 23 acres in Brooklyn, NY.

Carlson Restaurants Worldwide, Inc. (972-450-5400) is planning to open a T.G.I. Friday’s restaurant at the intersection of Tudor Road and C Street in front of the Hilton Garden Inn in Anchorage, AK. Opening is slated for October. The company currently operates 700 T.G.I. Friday’s restaurants throughout 47 states and 55 countries.

Worldwide Restaurant Concepts, Inc. (818-662-9800) is planning to open a Sizzler restaurant at the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue and Larkspur Drive in Antioch, CA. The restaurant will be located in the Hillcrest Crossroads Shopping Center.

TJX Cos. (508-390-1000) is planning to open a Marshalls and a HomeGoods store at the Salt Pond Shopping Center in Narragansett, RI. The company currently operates 713 T.J. Maxx, 629 Marshalls, 142 HomeGoods and 75 A.J. Wright stores nationwide.

iParty Corp. (617-323-0822) is planning to open three to four stores this year and is planning a more aggressive growth in the future. The company currently operates 35 locations.

P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Inc. (602-957-8986) is planning to open a 3,000 sq.ft. Pei Wei Asian Diner at 3426 East Baseline Road in Mesa, AZ.

Cold Stone Creamery (480-348-1704) is planning to open a 1,231 sq.ft. store at 1879 North Power Road in Mesa, AZ. The company currently operates six shops throughout the Mesa area. Nationwide, Cold Stone operates 343 shops throughout 32 states and the Caribbean.

Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (336-658-4000) is planning to open a Lowe’s Home Improvement store in Clinton, NC. The company also is planning to open a store at Niagara Falls Boulevard at Boulevard Consumer Square in Amherst, NY.

99 Cents Only Stores (323-980-8145) is planning to open 15 stores throughout the Houston, TX area, as well as 150 throughout the entire state. The company currently operates 153 stores nationwide.

Circuit City Stores, Inc. (804-527-4000) is planning to relocate approximately 18 to 22 stores, fully remodel five stores and open eight stores. After this year, the company plans on relocating 50 stores.

Granite City Food & Brewery Ltd. (952-525-2030) is planning to open a restaurant in Cedar Rapids, IA. The Cedar Rapids location is scheduled to be the second restaurant opening this year. The company also is planning to open of a restaurant in West Des Moines, IA during this summer. Granite City Food & Brewery also is negotiating for several additional sites in the Midwest. The company currently operates three casual dining restaurants featuring made-from-scratch food and handcrafted beers, including two locations in ND.

Stater Bros. Markets (909-783-5000) is planning to open a supermarket at the intersection of Iris Avenue and Lasselle Street in Moreno Valley, CA. Opening is slated for early 2004. The company also is planning to open a supermarket at the intersection of Eagle Glen Parkway and Bedford Canyon Road in Corona, CA. Stater Bros. Markets currently operates 156 supermarket locations, with 47 in San Bernardino County, 40 in Riverside County, 30 in Orange County, 27 in Los Angeles County, 10 in northern San Diego County and two in Kern County, CA.

Wild Oats Markets, Inc. (303-440-5220) is planning to remodel 25 stores and open 10 this year. The company also is planning to open 45 more locations by 2005.

Food Lion (704-633-8250) is planning to open a 38,000 sq.ft. supermarket during November on Sugar Creek Road in Charlotte, NC. The company currently operates more than 1,185 stores throughout 11 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states.

Big Lots, Inc. (614-278-6800) is planning to open 90 stores this year, while closing 30, for a net gain of 60. The company also will remodel 200 stores in the eastern U.S., expanding the furniture departments of many.

Borders Group, Inc. (734-477-1100) is planning to open a 22,514 sq.ft. Borders Books & Music store in Albuquerque, NM during July. The store will be located at the intersection of Academy Road and Wyoming Boulevard in the Northtowne Plaza Shopping Center. The store will be the company’s second in Albuquerque and its fourth in NM. The company currently operates 400 domestic superstores, 30 international Borders stores, 37 Books etc. locations and 775 Waldenbooks stores throughout the U.S., United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Puerto Rico.

Famous Dave’s of America, Inc. (952-294-1300) opened a company-owned restaurant in the Atlanta, GA market, as well as a franchise-operated restaurant in Billings, MT. The company also expects to open two additional franchise-operated restaurants, including locations in Chattanooga, TN and Milwaukee, WI. Two other company-owned restaurants are under construction in Richmond, VA and Rogers, AR. Both are expected to open during the second quarter.

Aaron Rents (404-231-0011) is planning to open approximately 30 company-owned stores and 50 franchised stores nationwide and in Puerto Rico. The company currently operates 720 stores, including 232 franchised stores, 25 Sight & Sound stores and 70 rent-to-rent stores.
