Who's Opening & Where


Hannaford Bros. Co. (207-883-2911) is planning to open a 55,000 sq.ft. supermarket on Route 94 in Warwick, RI. The store will be situated on a land area of 47 acres. The company currently operates 120 stores throughout MA, ME, NH, NY and VT.

Moe’s Southwest Grill (404-442-8332) is planning to open a 2,400 sq.ft. restaurant at Roosevelt Square in Jacksonville, FL. The company also plans to open as many as five locations by the end of the year.

Cost Plus, Inc. (510-893-7300) is planning to open four stores this year throughout FL, including locations at Marsh Landing Plaza in Jacksonville Beach; Wells Road Village in Clay County and two sites not yet identified in the Mandarin and Regency areas.

Petco (858-453-7845) is planning to open a store at Marsh Landing Plaza in Jacksonville Beach, FL. The company also is planning to open three locations throughout northeast FL by early next year, including a store at Cobblestone Village in St. Augustine. Petco currently operates more than 620 stores throughout 43 states.

Pier 1 Imports, Inc. (817-878-8000) is planning to open approximately 115 to 120 Pier 1 Imports stores throughout the U.S. and Canada during fiscal year 2004 and plans to close or relocate 35 to 40 stores over the same period. The stores will be located in both existing metropolitan and single-store markets, and will include two to three large format stores this year. In addition, the company will continue with expansion plans for Cargokids and expects to open 20 to 25 Cargokids stores in the Southeastern region and plans to relocate three to five Cargokids stores during fiscal 2004.

Hobby Lobby (405-745-1100) is planning to open a 67,000 sq.ft. furniture and home decor concept, Hemispheres, at 2325 South Stemmons Freeway at Vista Ridge Village Shopping Center in Lewisville, TX. The store, which will be the second in TX, sells luxury furnishings from around the world, including hand-knotted rugs, furniture, garden accents and lighting. It will offer furniture for the living room, bedroom and kitchen. The company also is planning to open a store in November and a third store near the intersection of Cooper Street and Interstate 20 in Arlington, TX during the Fall.

Health Express USA, Inc. (954-570-5900) is planning to open a Healthy Bites Grill restaurant at The Reserve, a center located in Boca Raton, FL.

Walgreen Co. (847-914-2500) is planning to open two Walgreens stores in Glen Burnie, MD. The stores will be located at 7901 Ritchie Highway and at 7953 South Crain Highway.

In Good Taste (561-997-7890) is planning to open a second location at The Reserve, a center located in Boca Raton, FL. Opening is slated for January 2004. The store specializes in selling items from greeting cards to gourmet chocolates.

Car Toys (800-997-3644) is opening a 6,000 sq.ft. store at Wyndham Plaza located at the intersection of Farm Road 1709 and Nolan Drive in Southlake, TX. Opening is slated for the Fall.

Darden Restaurants, Inc. (407-245-5366) is planning to open 20 to 25 Smokey Bones BB&Q restaurants a year. The company currently operates 38 Smokey Bones locations nationwide.

Toyopia (619-659-0485) opened a 3,000 sq.ft. prototype store at Sarasota Square Mall in Sarasota, FL. The store is decorated like a child’s water-themed fantasyland, with floating cloud cutouts overhead, blue water and tan sand painted on the ground, a 12-foot aquarium at the entrance and a wooden pirate ship engulfing the cash register. Toyopia is a combination toy, collectibles and candy store. The company also is planning to open a store at Countryside Mall in Clearwater, FL during the Fall.

Caribou Coffee Co. (612-359-2700) is planning to open about 50 to 60 stores annually for the next four years, with expansion plans focusing mainly on the Midwest. The company currently operates 207 stores throughout nine states and Washington, DC.

Tractor Supply Co. (615-360-6800) is planning to open approximately 240 stores during the coming four years. During the balance of fiscal 2003, the company plans to open seven additional stores and approximately 14 store relocations. The company currently operates 458 stores throughout 30 states.

Wing Zone (404-875-5045) is planning to open a store every month until the end of the year throughout the Dallas, TX area. The company expects to open as many as 15 locations by the middle of next year throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex area. The company currently operates 40 locations. The 1,200 sq.ft. stores offer takeout and delivery service.

Subway (203-877-4281) is planning to open a store at 134 Great Road in Acton, MA later this year. The company currently has 23 locations throughout MA and plans on opening four stores this month, four in September and four in October.

Stater Bros. Markets (909-783-5000) is planning to open a supermarket at the intersection of Interstate 15 and Clinton Keith Road in Wildomar, CA. Opening is slated for Spring 2004. This location will be the company’s 42nd supermarket in Riverside County. Overall, Stater Bros. Markets operates 158 locations. The company also recently opened an Eagle Glen Supermarket in Corona, CA and will open another Riverside County supermarket during early 2004 at the intersection of Iris Avenue and Lasselle Street in Moreno Valley, CA.

Cold Stone Creamery (480-348-1704) is planning to open 10 stores throughout WI during the coming two years. The company is opening stores in Kenosha and Delafield and is planning to open a location at PabstCity, the redevelopment project proposed for the former Pabst brewery in Milwaukee. Other planned locations include Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, as well as Appleton, Madison and Middleton. Each shop will occupy spaces of 1,400 sq.ft. to 1,600 sq.ft. The company currently operates 425 stores and is opening about six locations each week.

Best Buy Co. (952-947-2000) is planning to open a Best Buy store at 12765 Harper Village Drive in Harper Village Plaza near Beckley Road in Emmett Township, MI. The 30,000 sq.ft. store will be the first in Battle Creek and the 26th store in MI. Overall, the company is planning to open more than 60 stores nationwide this year.

Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (336-658-4000) is planning to open a 118,300 sq.ft. Lowe’s Home Improvement store at Carlisle Plaza Mall on East High Street in Carlisle, PA.

Dylan’s Candy Bar (646-735-0078) is planning to open stores in Long Island, NY; Orlando, FL and Houston, TX during the Summer. The company operates its flagship candy store at 3rd Avenue and 60th on the Upper East Side in New York, NY.

Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (614-283-6500) is planning to open two Hollister Co. stores in FL. The lifestyle store for teens expects to open a 7,062 sq.ft. location at Altamonte Mall in Altamonte Springs and a 6,269 sq.ft. store at West Oaks Mall in west Orlando during November. Abercrombie currently operates 125 Hollister Co. stores nationwide.

Taco Del Mar (206-624-7060) is planning to open stores throughout OR and WA, as well as UT, Phoenix, AZ; the central valley of CA and Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN. The company plans to open 25 restaurants this year and 50 units during 2004.

Bashas’ Supermarkets (877-968-9500) is planning to open a 29,000 sq.ft. AJ’s Fine Foods store in Tucson, AZ. Opening is slated for November. The company also is planning to open a ninth AJ’s Fine Foods in the East Valley of Mesa, AZ during 2004. Among the features planned for the Tucson store include an outdoor grill, an aged beef program and a sushi bar.

Electronics Boutique of America (610-430-8100) is planning to open a 1,400 sq.ft. EB Games location at Lake Town Center Lakeside in Sugar Land, TX. The 43-acre mixed-use development is located at the intersection of U.S. 59 and Highway 6. The company currently operates 1,228 stores throughout 46 states, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Italy, Germany, Korea, New Zealand, Norway, Puerto Rico and Sweden.

Office Depot, Inc. (561-438-2895) is planning to open a 6,800 sq.ft. store at 2122 Central Avenue, just west of Yale Boulevard, in Albuquerque, NM. The store will be located near the University of New Mexico. The company is testing this smaller-concept store in several markets nationwide. Office Depot currently operates 861 stores throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Inc. (888-525-2462) is planning to open 25 to 30 franchised retail outlets during the year, including five kiosk units. The company expects to open 10 to 12 franchised locations during the second quarter. The company currently operates 231 stores throughout 37 states, Canada, Guam and the United Arab Emirates.
