Federated Department Stores, Inc. (212-704-3300) is closing its Macy’s stores at the following GA locations: Cumberland Mall in Cobb County; Gwinnett Place in Duluth and Southlake Mall in Morrow. The closings are part of the company’s plan to shutter stores in older suburbs.

Food Lion (704-633-8250) will be closing 41 stores throughout 10 states, including sites in FL, GA, KY, MD, NC, PA, SC, TN, VA and WV, because of declining sales. The stores scheduled to close in TN are at the following locations: Ruritan Street in Harriman; Market Street in Johnson City; Plantation Road and Fort Henry Drive in Kingsport; Oak Ridge Highway, North Cedar Bluff Road, Chapman Highway, Kingston Pike, Pleasant Ridge Road and Emory Road in Knoxville; New Highway 68 in Madisonville; Northfield Boulevard in Murfreesboro; Charlotte Pike in Nashville; Clinton Highway in Powell and Sequoyah Road in Soddy Daisy.

JCPenney Co., Inc. (972-431-1000) is planning to close its 230,000 sq.ft. store at Tysons Corner Center in Washington, DC.

Gap, Inc. (949-719-0829) closed its 5,000 sq.ft. store at the Genesee Valley shopping center in Flint Township, MI because of declining sales. The company also announced plans to reduce square footage by 2% during 2003.
