D’Angelo Sandwich Shops (781-467-1786) plans to open 400 stores nationwide during the next five years.

Staples, Inc. (508-253-5000) is planning to open a store at the Marketplace at Ontario Center in Ontario, CA. The company acquired a 1.85-acre parcel next to Sam’s Club, which is located at the intersection of Milliken Avenue and Inland Empire Boulevard. The store is slated for an opening later this year.

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc. (303-846-6000) opened a location at the intersection of Powers Boulevard and North Carefree in Colorado Springs, CO. The company is planning to open 16 restaurants this year, including locations in Castle Rock, Grand Junction and Longmont, CO.

Big Boy International (586-759-6000) is planning to open a smoke-free prototype Big Boy restaurant in Grand Rapids, MI. The company currently owns 23 restaurants and has 432 franchised or otherwise licensed locations throughout 14 states and Japan. The company also plans on opening 10 restaurants in AZ.

Applebee’s International, Inc. (913-967-4000) is planning to open a restaurant located at the intersection of Route 248 and Corriere Drive in Lower Nazareth Township, PA. The restaurant will be located near Northampton Crossings Shopping Center.

Mellow Mushroom (404-266-1661) is planning to open a restaurant in Columbia, SC during the Spring.

Haverty Furniture Cos., Inc. (404-881-1911) is planning to open four stores this year, including locations in San Antonio, TX; West Palm Beach, FL and Bowie, MD. The company also plans on relocating its Jackson, MS showroom to a larger store. The company currently operates 111 showrooms throughout 14 southern and central states.

Barnes & Noble, Inc. (212-633-3300) is planning to open stores in Antioch, CA and Hoover, AL. The Antioch store will be 23,000 sq.ft. and will be located in the Slatten Ranch Shopping Center at the intersection of Lone Tree Way and Highway 4 Bypass. The store is slated for a September opening. The Hoover store will be 24,000 sq.ft. and will be located in the Patton Creek Shopping Center at the intersection of U.S. Highway 150 and Galleria Boulevard. The store is slated for a November opening.

Hooters (770-951-2040) is planning to open a restaurant in Marlborough, MA. The restaurant would be located near the Route 495 Interchange.

Best Buy Co. (952-947-2000) is planning to open 80 to 85 superstores during fiscal 2004. Approximately 60 of those stores will be domestic Best Buy stores, including 25 in the 45,000 sq.ft. format and 35 in the smaller-market format. Most of the stores will be opened throughout existing markets. The new locations include at least six stores in the New York, NY metro area. The company also plans on opening eight stores throughout the Toronto, ON, Canada market. Best Buy Co. plans to open 17 to 19 stores in Canada during fiscal 2004. Of those, 13 to 15 stores are expected to be Best Buy stores in the 36,000 sq.ft. format. New Canadian markets include Edmonton, Alberta; Winnipeg, Manitoba; and Ottawa, London and Windsor, Ontario.

AMC Entertainment, Inc. (816-221-4000) is planning to open a 14-screen AMC Theatre complex at The Plaza at The Mall in Columbia, MD. The theater is slated to open later this year.

Ultimate Electronics (303-412-2500) is planning to open eight stores, relocate one store and remodel seven stores. The company plans to open two locations in the Austin, TX area, four stores in the Kansas City, KS area and one store in the Wichita, KS market. The company also is planning to open a location in Maple Grove, MN. In conjunction with the opening, the company plans to change the name of their MN stores from Audio King to Ultimate Electronics.

Bassett Furniture Industries, Inc. (276-629-6708) is planning to open 20 stores during fiscal 2003. The company currently operates 85 Bassett Furniture Direct stores.

The North Face (212-593-6387) is planning to open a store in New York, NY during the Spring. The store will be located in the historic Ansonia building at 2101 Broadway Avenue. The two-level store will feature approximately 8,000 sq.ft. of space with a grand staircase connecting the levels.

Pier 1 Imports, Inc. (817-878-8000) is planning to open a store at Citi Centre in Winter Haven, FL during April. The store will be 10,000 sq.ft. and will be located next to Staples, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Belk and Burdines. The company currently operates more than 900 stores throughout 48 states, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom. The company plans on opening 100 stores this fiscal year in single-store markets and growing areas of major metropolitan hubs.

AutoZone, Inc. (901-495-6500) is planning to open 150 domestic auto parts stores nationwide in the fiscal year, ending August 30.

Federated Department Stores, Inc. (212-704-3300) is planning to open a Macy’s at County East Mall in Antioch, CA during 2004.

Joey’s Only Franchising USA (425-990-6433) is planning to open 150 Joey’s Only locations during the next three years. Long term, the company is planning to open 1,000 units. Currently, the company operates eight seafood restaurants in the U.S. and 85 in Canada.

Gamecock Country (803-252-0020) is planning to open stores in Charleston and Greenville, SC. The company currently operates one location on Rosewood Drive in Columbia, SC. The store specializes in selling University of South Carolina merchandise.

Crate & Barrel (847-272-2888) is planning to open 100 or more stores during the year. The company also is looking to expand its CB2 concept. Two stores are planned for the Chicago, IL area, while the company also is looking to open stores in Boston, MA; Washington, DC and New York, NY. The company also is planning to open Land of Nod children’s store locations soon.

First Cash Financial Services, Inc. (817-460-3947) is planning to open 40 to 50 pawn shops this year. The 14-year-old company started last year with 158 stores, closed six and added 39 new ones.

Rotelli, pizza, pasta, perfect (561-477-8300) opened a second location in Wexford, PA at the Pine Tree Shoppes. The first location at Robinson Pointe opened in June, 2001. The company also plans on opening four more locations by June.

Dillanos Coffee Roasters (800-234-5282) plans to open two locations during the next year. The company currently operates two locations, with one off River Road in Tacoma, WA and a drive-through in downtown Puyallup, WA.

Worldwide Restaurant Concepts (818-662-9800) is planning to open ten Sizzler restaurants in northern, CA over the next five years. T. Dhillon, Inc. currently operates ten Lyon’s Restaurants and will be converting them to Sizzler restaurants. Two locations are expected to open during the company’s current fiscal year. The company currently operates, franchises or joint ventures 322 Sizzler restaurants worldwide, 110 KFC restaurants primarily located in Queensland, Australia and 17 Pat & Oscar’s restaurants.

Walgreens Co. (847-914-2500) is planning to open a store on the northwest corner of Goosepond Road and North 21st Street in Newark, OH.
