Simon Property Group (317-263-7711) announced that William J. Garvey is retiring as executive vice president and director of development. Garvey joined Simon’s predecessor, Melvin Simon & Associates, Inc., in 1979 as vice president of development. Prior to joining Simon, Garvey held several positions with May Department Stores, including vice chairman of May Centers, Inc. Art Spellmeyer was promoted to executive vice president and will oversee redevelopment activities for Simon’s regional malls in the western half of the U.S. He also will oversee development activities portfolio-wide relating to theaters and other big box tenants. Spellmeyer joined Simon in 1990 as the senior development executive for Mall of America. Carl Dieterle will now be responsible for overseeing redevelopment activities for Simon’s regional malls in the eastern half of the U.S. Tom Schneider was promoted to executive vice president of new development and will continue to be responsible for the development of new malls, town centers and specialty centers. The company also announced the promotion of Scott Mumphrey to the position of president of Simon’s management group. Dennis Cavanagh assumes the role of chief operating officer of Simon’s management group, while John Neutzling, the current executive vice president of property management, will assume the newly-created role of executive vice president of partnership relations.

Dawahares (270-278-0422) announced that Harding Dawahare will become president of the privately owned company. He will replace A.F. Dawahare, who is semi-retiring as chairman of the board.
