Linens and Things (973-778-1300) plans to open a 30,070 sq.ft. store at 5929 East Broadway Boulevard in Tucson, AZ. The store is expected to open in the Spring. The building is situated on 3.03 acres of land.

PetsMart (623-580-6100) plans to open 60 stores this year. The company hopes to eventually operate 1,200 stores throughout North America.

Wet Seal, Inc. (949-583-9029) plans to open 75 stores, consisting of 15 to 20 Arden B. locations, three to 10 Contempo Casuals locations and the remainder of the openings being Wet Seal stores. The company expects 35% of the stores to open in the Spring and the rest before Thanksgiving. The company also plans to renovate 55 stores. Wet Seal operates 622 retail stores in 46 states, Washington, DC and Puerto Rico.

Whole Foods Market, Inc. (512-477-4455) recently signed leases for 19 stores averaging 41,000 sq.ft. The company currently operates 135 stores, which specialize in natural and organic foods.

Computer Builders Warehouse (586-756-2600) opened its ninth retail location in Houston, TX. The 4,000 sq.ft. store is located at 12303 J Westheimer Road. The company plans to open four more stores throughout Houston. The company operates stores throughout AL, FL, MI, NV and TX.

lucy (503-228-2142) opened stores in Manhattan Beach and Studio City, CA and Scottsdale, AZ. The 2,200 sq.ft. space in Manhattan Beach is located in Manhattan Village Shopping Center at 3200 North Sepulveda Boulevard. The Studio City store is located at 12178 Ventura Boulevard and occupies a space of 1,800 sq.ft. The Scottsdale store occupies a space of 2,400 sq.ft. The company plans to open 12 more stores this year, bringing its total to 21 units. All lucy stores carry multiple brands of ladies activewear for activities that include yoga, cardio-training, cross-training, running and walking.

Sonic Drive-In (405-280-7654) plans to open a restaurant at the intersection of Main Street and US92 in Auburndale, FL. The restaurant will be the company’s third in Polk County. The site will be developed by DL Investments, LLC and is owned by CRS Developments, Inc. The restaurant is expected to occupy a land area of 16,000 sq.ft. and have 30 drive-up stalls. The restaurant is expected to open no later than June 15. DL Investments is also seeking sites in the Polk County area and hopes to build another restaurant by the end of the year.

Costco Corp. (425-313-8100) recently opened Costco Home in Kirkland, WA at the former Home Base space. The 103,000 sq.ft. store features high-end home furnishings, including sofas, beds, recliners, tables, lightning, plants, mirrors and carpeting. The store will also offer some commercial and home office furnishings along with a small home electronics section, featuring high-end products like plasma televisions.

Odd Job Stores, Inc. (908-222-1000) plans to open six to 12 stores when it resumes its expansion program. The company currently operates 77general merchandise stores throughout CT, DE, MI, KY, NJ, NY, OH and PA.

eatZi’s (972-980-9917) plans to open 30 restaurants during the next five years throughout Dallas and Houston, TX; Atlanta, GA and suburban Washington, DC. The company is also seeking sites in other major metropolitan markets.

Grupo Famsa (562-426-0118) recently opened its eighth southern CA store in Oxnard. The 18,000 sq.ft. store is located in a former Old Navy location. The store offers name brand furniture, electronics, appliances, jewelry, clothing and other merchandise, similar to what Sears Roebuck & Co. stores carry. The stores offer credit terms credit with no interest for up to 24 months, money transfers to Mexico for $1 and a catalog service called "Famsa to Famsa." The company also does not require a valid driver’s license or other U.S. identification. The service allows customers to order merchandise that can be delivered to relatives in Mexico by Famsa stores there, which saves shipping charges. The company plans to open 14 southern CA locations along with at least one in Fresno and another in San Jose by the end of the year. The company also has 10 catalog kiosks in Dallas, TX-area supermarkets and is considering opening stores in Las Vegas, NV and Phoenix, AZ and hopes to have stores in the Chicago, IL area.

Barnes & Noble, Inc. (212-633-3300) is planning to open a 23,000 sq.ft. store in Raleigh, NC during November 2003. The bookstore will be located in the Brier Creek Commons on Brier Creek Parkway between Lumley Road and US Highway 70. The company currently operates 620 Barnes & Noble stores in 49 states and 281 B. Dalton Bookseller stores.

Fitness Connection (210-924-8200) plans to open two more clubs after opening four during the past three years. The company stated it has room to open another six in the San Antonio, TX market. The company recently opened a club on Southwest Military Drive in San Antonio, TX.

Wal*Mart (479-273-4000) plans to open a store at the former Polytechnic University campus in East Farmingdale, NY. Breslin Realty Development Corp. and Colin Management, Inc. proposed a second store on the 25-acre site at Republic Airport in Babylon, NY. Each of the proposed stores would occupy approximately 135,000 sq.ft. The Polytechnic campus was closed in June because the university consolidated its undergraduate programs at its Brooklyn Campus. The company also plans to open a store in Norwalk, CT during the Spring. The company also plans to open 60 supercenters in CA within six years. The company also signed a 20-year lease with NewMark Merrill Cos., LLC at the intersection of Pioneer Boulevard and Imperial Highway in Norwalk CA. The store will occupy a space of 136,804 sq.ft., which was formerly occupied by House 2 Home. Pacific Southwest Realty Services represented John Hancock in providing $11 million permanent financing for the site.

Shaw’s (508-313-4000) plans to add or replace 30 stores during the next three years. The company plans to remodel 90% of its New England stores.

Royal Ahold’s Stop & Shop (781-380-8000) plans to build or replace 30 stores and will move into NH this year. The company currently operates 211 stores.

Pacific Casket (503-644-3465) opened its first store in Beaverton, OR. The Internet provider is open by appointment seven days a week.

Kohl’s (262-703-7000) plans to open eight stores in Orange County, CA, seven in Los Angeles, CA, three in Ventura County, CA and five in Riverside County, CA. The Riverside County locations are located in Temecula, north and south Corona, Murrieta and Riverside. All 28 stores are expected to open on the same day in the Spring. The Ventura County stores will be located at the Ventura Gateway Shopping Center on Telephone Road between Portola Road and Highway 101; the Simi Valley Towne Centre at Alamo Street and Tapo Canyon Road and the Moorpark Marketplace center on Los Angeles Avenue between Highway 23 and Miller Parkway. The opening date has yet to be announced. The company currently operates 457 stores in 33 states.

Subway (203-877-4281) plans to open 15 sandwich shops in greater Albany, NY by the end of the year. The company currently operates 53 locations in the area.

D’Angelo Sandwich Shops (781-467-1786) plans to open 400 locations nationwide during the next five years, including 10 to 15 franchised locations in greater Albany, NY.
