Who's Opening HMS Host (240-694-4100) is planning to open a Wolfgang Puck Express restaurant on Peachtree Road in the south Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta, GA. The restaurant is expected to be open this month. The company currently operates two locations in Disney World in Orlando, FL, two at O’Hare Airport in Chicago, IL and a location at Los Angeles International Airport in Los Angeles, CA. The concept is now moving into shopping centers, including locations in FL; Atlanta, GA; Nashville, TN and Washington, DC. Party America (510-747-1800) is planning to include another round of investments to accelerate growth of its concept. The party supply company operates 36 stores throughout CA, CO and UT. Famous Dave’s, Inc. (952-294-1300) is planning to open a restaurant at The Mall of America in Minneapolis, MN. Overall, the company is planning to open eight company-owned and 20 to 22 franchised locations. Plans call for 300 Famous Dave’s locations by 2007, with 200 of them franchise-owned. This year, the company will expand into AR, AZ, KY and MI. National Stores, Inc. (310-324-9962) is planning to open a Fallas-Paredes store in Albuquerque, NM. The company currently operates 63 stores throughout AZ, CA, NV and TX. The stores target low-income consumers with discount clothes for men, women, children and infants and home accessories, including towels and bedding. West Marine, Inc. (831-728-2700) is planning to remodel five to 10 of its existing stores and open 20 to 30 stores this year. Half of the new locations will be "Express" stores, which at 2,500 sq.ft. are one-third the size of traditional stores. The stores sell primarily maintenance and hardware items for boats. Two 25,000 sq.ft. "Superstores" are expected to open this summer, including locations in Fort Lauderdale, FL and San Diego, CA. The company currently operates 260 West Marine stores throughout 38 states, Puerto Rico and Canada. Talbots (781-749-7600) is planning to open approximately 92 stores this year. About $82 million of the $103 million in capital expenditures is to be used to open stores and expand, renovate and relocate existing stores. The company currently operates 870 stores throughout the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom. Back Yard Burgers, Inc. (901-367-0888) is planning to open three company-operated stores and 16 franchised stores, including four co-branded restaurants under the agreement with Yum! Brands, Inc. The company currently operates 123 locations, including 42 company-operated stores and 81 franchised sites. Office Depot, Inc. (561-438-2895) is planning to open 10 stores in the second quarter of this year, including six stores occupying spaces of 10,000 sq.ft. The company currently operates 871 stores throughout the U.S. and Canada. Brown Shoe Co., Inc. (314-854-4000) is planning to open 55 stores for its Famous Footwear division. The company also plans on opening five stores in its Naturalizer division. The company currently operates more than 900 Famous Footwear stores throughout the U.S., 440 Naturalizer stores throughout the U.S. and Canada and 16 F.X. LaSalle stores in the Montreal, QE, Canada area. Hot Topic, Inc. (626-839-4681) is planning to spend approximately $36 million on capital expenditures in fiscal 2003. The company plans to open 70 Hot Topic stores and 25 Torrid locations and expand approximately 10 existing Hot Topic stores. Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (650-837-5000) is planning to open a 192,042 sq.ft. Wal*Mart Supercenter in Baxter, MN during 2004. The proposed development is located at the intersection of Highway 371 and Glory Road. The store also is expected to include a 15,460 sq.ft. garden center and display area and eight gas fuel pumps with a small pay station. PetsMart, Inc. (623-580-6100) is planning to open approximately 60 stores and remodel approximately 140 stores under the new store format. The company currently operates 583 stores in North America, typically ranging in size from 19,000 sq.ft. to 26,000 sq.ft. Dick’s Sporting Goods (412-787-1330) is planning to open locations at both the 840,476 sq.ft. East Towne Mall and the 975,817 sq.ft. West Towne Mall in Madison, WI during the Fall of 2004. Both of the stores will be constructed in locations previously occupied by Boston Stores. Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (336-658-4000) is planning to open a Lowe’s Home Improvement store in Quincy, IL in a new, 30-acre retail development called Prairie Crossing. The store will be located southeast of Broadway at its junction with Interstate 172. The 104,000 sq.ft. store could open as early as November. The company currently operates 825 stores throughout 43 states. The company is in the midst of an aggressive expansion plan, opening a new store on average every three days. The company’s current prototype has a 121,000 sq.ft. sales floor with a lawn and garden center averaging an additional 30,000 sq.ft.Dollar Tree (757-321-5000) is planning to open a store in Augusta, ME. The store will occupy about half the space of a former Service Merchandise on Western Avenue. The company currently operates 2,265 stores throughout 40 states. Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (614-283-6500) is planning to open 70 Hollister Co. stores this year, as well as 30 Abercrombie & Fitch locations. Fred Meyer Stores, Inc. (503-232-8844) is planning to replace the company’s smaller northside store with a larger facility in Fairbanks, AK. The company is tentatively looking at building a new, more spacious store to replace the College Road business. The company currently operates 134 stores throughout five Western states, including 10 in AK. Cold Stone Creamery (480-348-1704) is planning to open its first New York, NY location in Times Square. Opening is slated for this month. Additionally, over a dozen stores are slated to open throughout New York, NY and the surrounding area this year. Cold Stone Creamery plans on awarding close to 40 franchises in NY by the end of this year, as part of its aggressive growth plan to operate 1,000 stores throughout the U.S. by 2004. Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Inc. (510-594-2100) is planning to open four stores late in the quarter. The company currently operates 69 locations throughout four states. Grocery Outlet, Inc. (510-845-1999) recently opened stores in Sacramento, CA; Salem, OR and Yakima, WA. The 117-unit chain has plans to open additional locations in Las Vegas, NV; Lincoln City, OR and The Dalles, OR, as well as other locations in eight Western states. Sur La Table (866-328-5412) is planning to open seven stores this year and one next year. Babystyle (323-874-4073) is planning on opening a store in the Carousel Court at Fashion Island in Newport Beach, CA. The 3,300 sq.ft. store will be the company’s second retail location. The company currently operates one location in Manhattan Beach, CA.CompUSA (972-982-4000) is planning to open a 22,000 sq.ft. store during Fall this year in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The company also is planning to open two more stores throughout Puerto Rico during the coming two years, including a 28,000 sq.ft. store in Carolina during the first quarter of 2004. CompUSA also plans to open a 35,000 sq.ft. flagship store next year. The company currently operates 225 stores in 90 major U.S. markets. Gold’s Gym (800-457-5375) is planning to open a 42,000 sq.ft. gym in North Natomas, CA, as well as locations near Elk Grove and Sacramento, CA. The North Natomas gym would be 21,000 sq.ft. and would be located on a land area of 5.8 acres. Construction is slated to begin this month, with the opening slated for November. The Elk Grove location would be 35,000 sq.ft., while the Sacramento site would be between 12,000 sq.ft. and 15,000 sq.ft. All three are expected to be completed by 2006. Firehouse Subs (904-886-8300) is planning to open a location at University Square Shopping Center located at 2612 West Sixth Street in Fayetteville, AR. The company also is planning to open locations in Bentonville or Springdale, AR. The company currently operates 40 locations throughout four Southeastern states. Overall, the company plans to open 300 shops during the coming five years.Desert Moon (877-564-6362) is planning to open two restaurants this year. The company recently opened a 3,200 sq.ft. restaurant in Topeka, KS, one of the eight planned for the state. Additionally, Desert Moon opened its first of 20 units planned for the Atlanta, GA market. The company currently operates 17 restaurants throughout nine states and Washington, DC. Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (336-658-4000) is planning to open a 146,000 sq.ft. Lowe’s Home Improvement store on Airline Drive, between Melrose Avenue and Douglas Drive, in Bossier City, LA. The store will include a 116,000 sq.ft. sales floor and a 30,000 sq.ft. lawn and garden center. The company also is planning to open a 153,000 sq.ft. store at the Spring Towne Shopping Center on Route 724 in Reading, PA. The store would include a 27,000 sq.ft. lawn and garden center.Hibbett Sporting Goods, Inc. (205-942-4292) is planning to open approximately 65 Hibbett Sports stores and remodel selected existing stores. The company currently operates 370 stores throughout 20 mostly Southeastern states. Wendy’s International (614-764-3100) is planning to open 295 to 315 Wendy’s restaurants, 195 to 210 Hortons restaurants, primarily franchised, and 70 to 80 Baja Fresh restaurants. The company currently operates 6,300 restaurants nationwide and in 21 other countries. Hard Rock Cafe International, Inc. (407-445-7625) is planning to open an 8,200 sq.ft. restaurant in Detroit, MI. The location will be in the new Compuware headquarters building within Campus Martius, a seven-block, two million sq.ft. development downtown. The company currently operates 100 Hard Rock Cafe locations in 40 countries. Champps Entertainment, Inc. (303-804-1333) is planning to open three Champps restaurants during the fourth quarter of fiscal 2003 in Tampa, FL; Lansing, MI; and Cincinnati, OH. The company currently owns and operates 39 restaurants and franchises 12 locations throughout 19 states.
