Real Estate Professionals Making The News Acadia Realty Trust (516-767-8830) promoted Joseph Povinelli to senior vice president- director of leasing. Povinelli joined Acadia as vice president in 1999 with 19 years of retail leasing experience and has been acting director of leasing for the last year. Prior to joining Acadia, Povinelli served as the regional real estate representative for Vornado Realty Trust since 1987. Aronov Realty Management, Inc. (334-277-1000) announced the hiring of John Bemis as senior vice president of Aronov’s Shopping Center Division and the promotion of Robin Raiford to vice president of management and marketing for the same division. Bemis had recently served as vice president of Jones Lang LaSalle, where he directed the leasing and merchandising efforts for 12 regional malls. At Aronov, he will be responsible for managing the shopping center division and its assets, which includes more than 60 shopping centers throughout 11 Southeastern states. Raiford has managed marketing programs for retail, multifamily, commercial and residential developments at Aronov since 1980.Frank’s Nursery and Crafts, Inc. (248-712-7000) appointed former Michaels Stores, Inc., executive Bruce Dale as CEO. Dale had been an executive with Michaels Stores for the past 10 years. In 1995, Dale was named president of Aaron Brothers shortly after Michaels acquired the chain. Dale will fill the slot left open following the departure of CEO Steve Fishman, who was at Frank’s from September 2001 through last November. The company operates 170 stores throughout 14 states. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February 2001 and emerged last Spring.Tri-Land Properties, Inc. (708-531-8210) appointed Michael J. Licciardi to the newly-created position of executive vice president of business development. In his new position, Licciardi will be responsible for developing and maximizing Tri-Land’s real estate investment opportunities through joint-venture partnerships, acquisitions, equity-raising networks and private-placement activities. Prior to joining Tri-Land, Licciardi was a senior executive for the past 24 years at The Richard E. Jacobs Group, a privately held real estate development firm.Westrust America (818-878-9300) announced that David Newsome has joined the company as vice president of development. In his new position, Newsome will be responsible for overseeing the company’s development, redevelopment activities and business development. Prior to joining Westrust, Newsome was vice president of development at Center Trust, a shopping center REIT, where he was responsible for managing neighborhood and community center development projects in AZ, CA, OR and WA.Grubb & Ellis/CBI (808-896-4579) is opening an office in Kona, HI. The company appointed Brooks Borror as the broker-in-charge and managing director of the new office. The office will focus on statewide investment brokerage and tenant representation services, as well as commercial property management. Previously, Borror was vice president of leasing and property management of Bollenbacher and Kelton, Inc., a southern CA-based development firm.
