Who's Opening & Where


U.S. Factory Outlets, Inc. (212-563-3650) signed a lease to open an anchor store at the Shipyard Center in Wilmington, DE. Cotenants include Vanity Fair, West Point Stevens, Dress Barn, L.L. Bean and Nautica. The company currently operates locations in AR, AZ, ID, IL, IN, MA, MO, MS, ND, NM, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX and VA. The stores offer manufacturer closeouts and other items at discounts of 40% to 75% off department store prices.

Sharon Luggage & Gifts (704-525-4066) is planning to open a store in NC this year. The company currently operates four stores in Charlotte and one each in Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Raleigh, Cary and Asheville, NC. The company also plans to renovate an existing store in SouthPark Mall in Charlotte.

Nebraska Furniture Mart (800-359-1200) is planning to open a 712,000 sq.ft. store located at the intersection of Interstates 435 and 70 in Kansas City, KS. Of the total area, 450,000 sq.ft. will be devoted to selling space, while the remaining 262,000 sq.ft. of space is for warehouse, distribution and preparation functions.

HMSHost Corp. (240-694-4100) and Wolfgang Puck Express Licensing are opening Wolfgang Puck Express restaurants in Boca Raton and Palm Beach Gardens, FL. The first restaurant will open at Glades Plaza in Boca Raton, and will take over a space formerly occupied by Hooters. The second restaurant is planned for Downtown at the Gardens, an entertainment center slated to open during 2004 near The Gardens Mall. The company also is planning to open Elements, a retail concept celebrating the themes of air, water, land and space at Baltimore Washington Airport in Linthicum, MD.

Zyng Noodlery (703-549-5332) opened a 3,100 sq.ft. restaurant at 317 North Mead in Old Town Square, an entertainment center that also is tenanted by a six-screen Warren Theatre. Zyng Noodlery, featuring Asian-inspired, full-service casual dining, will be located inside the west building of Old Town Plaza, south of the theater. Restaurateur Alan Bundy is now the franchisee for Zyng Noodlery in Wichita and Kansas City, KS (including the Lawrence area) and has a development agreement with Zyng International to open 10 restaurants during the coming five years.

Orscheln Farm & Home (800-577-2580) opened a store at 2100 National Road West in Richmond, IN. The company also is planning to open stores in Bedford, Charlestown, Corydon, Lawrenceburg, Madison, Seymour, Shelbyville and Washington, IN.

Mr. Hero (800-837-9599) is planning to open 20 sub shops throughout NC and SC during the coming year.

Drexel Heritage (405-947-7433) is planning to open a furniture showroom this Summer on Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale, AZ. A second store is planned along Bell Road in Glendale, AZ later this year.

Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwich Shop (847-888-7206) is planning to open a 2,398 sq.ft. shop on Sixth Street in Minneapolis, MN. The space is adjacent to Borders Books & Music. The company currently operates area locations on Ninth Street and in Uptown’s Calhoun Square. Overall, the company operates 165 corporate and franchised locations throughout 20 states and two countries.

The Book Market, Inc. (865-558-8187) opened a 26,000 sq.ft. store formerly occupied by Service Merchandise in the Market Place Square located at 3257 Northwest Federal Highway in Jensen Beach, FL. The Book Market is a closeout book seller that travels the country opening temporary locations. The lease term for the Market Place Square location is 90 to 120 days, with an option to extend. Overall, the company has leased almost 1,000 locations consisting of more than 10 million sq.ft. for "limited engagement" stores. The company sells books at 30% to 80% off retail prices.

Emeril’s Homebase, Inc. (504-524-4241) is planning to open a Tchoup Chop restaurant in Orlando, FL. The company currently owns seven restaurants in Las Vegas, NV; New Orleans, LA and Orlando, with an eighth opening this Spring in Atlanta, GA.

Captain D’s Seafood (615-391-5201) is planning to open four restaurants throughout MS and TN during the coming three years. The company currently operates 570 restaurants, including 240 franchise units, nationwide.

Lee’s Ice Cream (410-581-0234) is planning to open 10 stores this year. The company currently operates one company-owned location at the Harborplace Mall in downtown Baltimore, MD and several other franchise locations throughout MD and the northern VA suburbs. Lee’s also plans to open stores at the following locations in MD; 2612 Solomons Island Road in Annapolis; in the Valley Village Shopping Center on Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills; and a location in Towson that is still under negotiation. Each store will average approximately 1,000 sq.ft. and will be located in strip centers and enclosed malls.

Sport Clips, Inc. (800-872-4247) is planning to expand into four new states during the coming year. The company is opening salons at a rate of two per week. Last year, it opened 30 salons, growing to 87 locations . During the coming year, the company plans on opening 80 to 100 salons and break into AL, FL, NV and TN. The company caters to men by offering haircuts in a sports-themed environment. The salons feature televisions continually playing sporting events, memorabilia on display and for sale and stylists wearing athletic attire.

Daniel Leather, Inc. (416-762-8175) opened six stores and two mall stores across Canada this year. In addition to the opening of a mall store in the U.S., the company plans to open two more power center locations throughout Canada.

Eateries, Inc. (405-705-5000) is planning to open six Garfield’s Restaurant & Pub locations throughout MS, including its first restaurant in Jackson by the end of the year. The company also plans on opening five Garfield’s locations in the Jackson and Columbus-Tupelo, MS markets during the coming six years. ProCare Automotive Service Solutions (216-520-4700) is planning to open a location at 3880 John Gordon Lane in north High Point, NC. The 4,900 sq.ft. store will have six service bays and will be located in the Shoppes at Deep River. The company currently operates 125 automotive repair facilities throughout six states.

TGF Precision Haircutters (713-952-8080) is planning to open a 2,000 sq.ft. store at Windvale Village Center located on College Park Drive in Houston, TX.

AMC Entertainment, Inc. (816-221-4000) is planning to open an 18-screen AMC Theatre complex at the Broward Mall in Plantation, FL. Opening is slated for Spring 2005. The company currently operates 240 theaters with 3,532 screens throughout the U.S., Canada, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.

SuperValu, Inc. (952-828-4000) is planning to open 35 supermarkets throughout Atlanta, GA during the coming five years. The stores will operate under the tradenames Save-A-Lot and Deals, Nothing Over a Dollar. The company currently operates 100 Deals, Nothing Over a Dollar stores.

Children’s Museum of Spokane (509-624-5437) is planning to open a location at Park River Square in Spokane, WA. The 16,000 sq.ft. facility is slated to open during the Fall. The mall is anchored by a 137,000 sq.ft. Nordstrom.

Meritage Hospitality Group (616-776-2600) is planning to open five Wendy’s restaurants this year. The company currently operates 50 Wendy’s restaurants throughout western and southern MI.

New England Pantry, Inc. (781-438-1140) opened a 2,503 sq.ft. White Hen store at 277 Turnpike Street in Easton, MA. It is the first new location for White Hen since 1999 and marks the beginning of an aggressive growth plan that will see the company open as many as three additional units this year. The White Hen Pantry is owned by Clark Retail Enterprises, which operates over 200 locations throughout the Midwest.

Saks, Inc. (205-9404000) is planning to open six department stores, while expanding, remodeling and renovating other locations this year. The company operates 245 department stores under the tradenames Parisian, Proffitt’s, McRae’s, Younkers, Herberger’s, Carson Pirie Scott, Bergner’s and Boston Store. The company also is planning to open six stores and make other improvements this year, but expects a decline in same-store sales in the low-single digit range for the year, with the trend improving in the second half.

Big O Tires (800-321-2446) is planning to open stores at a dozen Kmart locations in metro Detroit, MI that house former Penske Auto Centers. Big O currently operates over 500 dealer and company-owned stores throughout the Midwest.

Domicile Design Group (919-932-7172) is planning to open seven locations during the coming five to seven years. The first store is slated to open during November in Arlington, VA. Other cities targeted by the company include Bethesda, MD; Atlanta, GA; Philadelphia, PA; New York, NY and two locations in FL. The company specializes in home furnishings and accessories.

Mr. Gatti’s (512-459-2222) is planning to open a pizza restaurant and amusement complex at the former H-E-B Pantry off Texas Avenue in College Station, TX.

Gandolfo’s New York Style Deli (801-687-9794) opened a restaurant in Athens, GA. The company is planning to open seven more restaurants throughout the Atlanta, GA area this year. Franchise plans call for 25 restaurants in GA and another 25 throughout UT to open during the coming 12 to 18 months, with more than half of those projected restaurants already carrying signed contracts.

Brinker International (972-980-9917) sold franchise rights to Waterloo Restaurant Ventures, Inc. for Romano’s Macaroni Grill expansion into the northwest. Waterloo signed some letters of intent on specific locations, including a site in Vancouver, WA. Staubach Retail Services is working with Waterloo to pinpoint restaurant locations. Romano’s target market is a population aged 25 to 52 years with an average household income of $60,000. Romano’s seeks markets with 100,000 people living within five miles. The company also is considering opening locations in second-tier markets such as Eugene and Salem, OR. Opening for the first restaurant in the northwest is slated for next year.

Rock Bottom Restaurants (303-664-4000) is planning to open a 6,000 sq.ft. Old Chicago restaurant at Old Town Square in Wichita, KS. The chain is building five to seven restaurants a year and is now filling in throughout the existing markets. Rock Bottom Restaurants operates 52 Old Chicago restaurants and 35 eateries and brewpubs under other tradenames throughout the West and Midwest.

Forever 21 (800-966-1355) is planning to open a 20,600 sq.ft. store in a space formerly occupied by Loews Theatres at the Fashion Center at Pentagon City in the Washington, DC area. The company currently operates 145 apparel stores throughout 25 states and one in Canada.

George’s Music (610-640-0777) opened a location at Palm Beach Mall in West Palm Beach, FL. The store took over space formerly occupied by Mars Music. The company currently operates 11 locations throughout PA and FL, including Jacksonville and Orlando.

Espresso Royale Caffe (734-663-8863) is planning to open two shops this Spring, including locations on Plymouth Road in Traver Village, MI and on South Main Street at Ann Arbor-Saline Road in Ann Arbor, MI. The company currently operates 24 shops throughout eight states. The company plans on eventually operating eight stores in the Ann Arbor area. It recently opened a location in Champaign-Urbana, IL and plans to open in Brighton, IL this month. By August, the company would like to open a location at Ford and Sheldon Roads in Canton, IL.

Tiffany & Co. (212-230-5315) is planning to increase its retail square footage by 5% this year. The company currently operates locations throughout the U.S., Asia-Pacific region and in Europe.

Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy, Inc. (303-442-2304) is planning to expand throughout the West Coast through the acquisition of 15 to 20 independent pharmacies during the coming 18 months. The company operates eight pharmacies that combine prescription drug and over-the-counter products with natural, complementary and personal body care products in spaces of 3,000 sq.ft. to 5,000 sq.ft.

The TJX Cos. (508-390-1000) is planning to open 37 HomeGoods locations, 13 Winners stores, eight HomeSense locations, 30 T.J. Maxx stores and 25 A.J. Wright stores this year.

Longs Drug Stores Corp. (925-937-1170) opened eight stores during the fourth quarter, increasing the number of stores opened during fiscal 2003 to 25. The company plans on opening approximately 20 stores this year and is planning on remodeling approximately 20 stores this year. Longs operates 457 stores throughout CA, CO, HI, NV, OR and WA.

Eckerd Corp. (800-325-3737) is planning to open a drug store across from Kroger at Campbell Station Road in Spring Hill, TN.

Wendy’s International (614-764-3100) is planning to open a fast food restaurant in Spring Hill, TN.

GameStop Corp. (817-424-2000) is planning to open between 235 and 265 stores this year. The company currently operates 1,231 stores throughout 49 states and Puerto Rico under the GameStop, Babbage’s, Software Etc. and FuncoLand names.

Chico’s FAS, Inc. (239-277-6200) is planning to open a store at Pacific Place in Seattle, WA. The store will take over 3,850 sq.ft. of space formerly occupied by Starbucks.

Bill Bateman’s Bistro (410-296-2737) is planning to open a restaurant at North Plaza in Parkville, MD. Two more locations are planned for Canton and Hanover, PA. The company also operates five carry-out locations throughout Baltimore County, MD.

Gander Mountain (952-830-8700) is planning to open an 83,000 sq.ft. store, situated within the 670,000 sq.ft. Washington Crown Center located at the intersection of Interstate 70 and Route 40 in Washington, PA. The center is anchored by Kaufmann’s, The Bon-Ton, Sears and Hollywood Theaters. Opening is slated for late Summer. Gander Mountain plans to use the space for a superstore location. The store will feature a full archery technical shop and lanes, gunsmith service, a fly tying shop and a new cabin decor department.

Galyan’s Trading Co. (317-612-2000) is planning to open nine stores this year. The company has already signed leases for the locations, which include the first entry in the New York, NY area with two openings; two additional stores in the Chicago, IL market and its entry into the Cleveland, OH; Richmond, VA; Omaha, NE and Peoria, IL markets, as well as a store in the southern Indianapolis, IN market.

Regis Corp. (952-947-7777) is planning to open stores in Merrick, NY; Massapequa, NY and Great Neck, NY. During the coming several years, the company plans to add between 100 and 200 salons throughout CT, NJ and NY. Regis Corp. operates and franchises more than 9,400 salons under the names Regis Salons, Supercuts, Cost Cutters, MasterCuts, Trade Secret, SmartStyle Family Hair Salons, Jean Louis David and Vidal Sassoon. Regis Corp. The company also is planning to open three Supercuts salons throughout the Minneapolis, MN market. The stores will feature a new prototype look, incorporating the chain’s traditional bench-style seating. It will include light wood and an interior dotted with stainless steel and bright blue accents. Overall, the company plans on opening about 200 Supercuts locations with the new look next year. The company also will begin retrofitting between 100 and 200 of its existing 1,700-plus Supercuts stores annually.

Chicago Pizza & Brewery, Inc. (714-848-3747) is planning to open as many as six locations this year. The company currently operates 30 casual dining restaurants, some of which incorporate brewpubs, including 19 locations in CA and additional restaurants in Boulder, CO and Chandler, Lewisville and Clear Lake, TX. In addition, the company operates seven restaurants in OR, three of which are Pietro’s pizzerias. The company also recently opened a BJ’s Restaurant and Brewery at 515 West Bay Boulevard in Webster, TX. Overall, the company plans on opening six to eight restaurants in the greater Houston, TX area.

Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (336-658-4000) is planning to open a 100,000 sq.ft. Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse at the intersection of Highway 965 and Highway 6 in Coralville, IA. The company currently operates 843 stores nationwide.

Buffalo Wild Wings (952-593-9943) is planning to open 400 locations by 2005. The company currently operates 200 Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar restaurants throughout 27 states.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. (336-726-8917) is planning to open 77 stores this year, as well as 10 bakery-cafe satellite locations. The company currently operates 276 stores nationwide. The company also is planning to open a shop in the Springfield, MO area during the coming year.

Four to five additional locations are expected to open during the remainder of the year. Franchised restaurants are currently under construction in the Cleveland and Cincinnati, OH areas. Gap, Inc. (949-719-0829) is planning to open a 15,000 sq.ft. Old Navy store in Southwest Plaza III in Springfield, IL. The center is anchored by Gordmans and Sportmart.

Worldwide Restaurant Concepts, Inc. (818-662-9800) is planning to open two Pat & Oscar’s restaurants in the Los Angeles, CA area, meeting the company’s goal of 30% to 40% annual unit growth for this year. The company’s also expects the Pat & Oscar’s concept to continue to expand at this rate during 2004. The company franchises or joint ventures 319 Sizzler restaurants worldwide, 111 KFC restaurants primarily located in Queensland, Australia and 19 Pat & Oscar’s restaurants.

Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (650-837-5000) is planning to open Wal*Mart stores in several former Ames locations throughout PA, including the Bethel Shopping Center on Library Road in Bethel Park and at the Waterworks Mall near Aspinwall in Allegheny County. The company also is considering opening a Wal*Mart store on the former site of the East Gate Shopping Center near Pittsburgh. The company also is planning to open a traditional Wal*Mart store in Carnegie and is reconfiguring an existing Wal*Mart store along Century Drive in West Mifflin into a supercenter; and conversion of an existing Wal*Mart along North Center Avenue in Somerset County into a supercenter. Overall, the company plans on opening 45 to 55 traditional stores, 200 to 210 supercenters, while relocating or expanding 140 existing stores into supercenters this year. Throughout UT, the company plans on opening locations in American Fork, Richfield, Clinton, South Ogden, Layton, Sandy, Payson, Taylorsville, West Valley City, Draper, South Jordan and Salt Lake City.

Williams-Sonoma, Inc. (415-421-7900) is expected to increase leased square footage by 9% to 11% this year. The company operates 478 stores nationwide under the names Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, Hold Everything, West Elm and Chambers.
