Who's Opening & Where ShopKo Stores, Inc. (920-429-2211) is planning to open a freestanding drug store called ShopKo Express Rx in Green Bay, WI. The store, as well as two locations to be announced later, are scheduled to open during Fall 2004. The new format will feature drive-thru pharmacies, photo processing, convenience foods and traditional drug store-related products. Future ShopKo Express Rx stores also may feature professional eye care centers and related products. Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (650-837-5000) is looking to open a 173,000 sq.ft. store and Sam’s Club in Secaucus, NJ during Fall 2004. The company also is planning to open four Neighborhood Market stores throughout the Indianapolis, IN area. Two stores are opening on the east side of the city, with one each on the northwest and south sides. The 40,000 sq.ft. supermarkets carry a full-line of food and grocery merchandise and have a drive-thru pharmacy. By 2005, Wal*Mart hopes to have six to 10 Neighborhood Markets around the city. Overall, the company is planning to open as many as 195 stores during 2004. CVS Corp. (401-765-1500) is planning to open a store at the intersection of Ray and McClintock Roads in Chandler, AZ. The store will be situated on a 15.63-acre site that will include four retail pads and eight acres of single-family homes. The company also is planning to open a location at the intersection of Germann and Dobson Roads in Chandler. The store will be situated on a 10-acre site that also will feature a six-acre retail development. The company also has recently acquired five other locations in the East Valley, AZ area for stores. Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe (918-488-9727) is planning to open 20 locations in the Los Angeles, Orange County, Conejo Valley and Simi Valley, CA areas. The company also signed a separate agreement with a PA developer to open 15 stores in Montgomery, Bucks, Lehigh, Berks, Chester and Delaware Counties. Factory Card & Party Outlet Corp. (630-579-2164) is opening a store in Noblesville, IN, the company’s first store in five years. The store is the first of five planned to open through January, including one in Plainfield this month. Overall, the company expects to open at least 10 more locations during 2004. In April 2002, Factory Card & Outlet Corp. emerged from bankruptcy after a three-year reorganization. The company operates 172 stores throughout 20 states, offering party supplies, greeting cards and other special occasion merchandise at discount prices. Qdoba Restaurant Corp. (303-629-5000) is planning to open 44 restaurants throughout CO, IL, MI and NJ. The company is looking to add four units in Fort Collins, Loveland, Longmont and Greeley, CO, as well as 20 restaurants in northern NJ, with the first set to open during March 2004. In MI, the company is looking to open five restaurants in Washentaw and Wayne Counties, including Ann Arbor.Boston Pizza International, Inc. (604-270-1108) is planning to open at least three restaurant/sports bars during the coming 18 months throughout Clark County, WA. Construction has begun on the first Boston’s Pizza on Southeast 163rd Place near the east Vancouver Regal Cinemas, while a second is planned in Orchards at the intersection of Northeast 117th Avenue and Northeast 76th Street. The restaurant on 163rd is expected to open later this year, while the Orchards opening is planned for mid-2004. Dreamland Barbecue (205-930-0913) is planning to open a restaurant at the intersection of Atlanta Highway and East Boulevard in the Atlanta Crossing Shopping Center in Montgomery, AL. Opening is slated for February. The Montgomery restaurant will be almost four times the size of the original location in Tuscaloosa. Overall, the company is looking to open four restaurants in the Montgomery area and two elsewhere. In all, there are six Dreamland locations. Two of them are company-owned and the rest are franchises. CBRL Group, Inc. (615-444-5533) is planning to open a 9,500 sq.ft. restaurant at the intersection of Interstate 75 and Daniels Parkway in Fort Myers, FL during February. The company currently operates 482 Cracker Barrel restaurants throughout 41 states. Of the 9,500 sq.ft., approximately 2,000 sq.ft. will be devoted to retail. The Fort Myers Cracker Barrel will be the company’s 47th location in FL. IHOP Corp. (818-240-6055) is planning to open a 4,500 sq.ft. IHOP restaurant at the intersection of Lima and West Washington Center Roads in Fort Wayne, IN during February. The site was formerly occupied by an Amoco station. The company currently operates and franchises 1,100 restaurants throughout the U.S. and Canada, of which about 90% are franchises. The company plans to open more IHOP locations throughout Fort Wayne and in the region. Wendy’s International (614-764-3100) is planning to open a Wendy’s restaurant at the intersection of Providence and Bloomingdale in Brandon, FL. The parcel is directly in front of Bloomingdale Hills Shopping Center. Opening is slated for early 2004. Darden Restaurants, Inc. (407-245-5366) is planning to open a 6,900 sq.ft. Smokey Bones restaurant at the Jefferson Pointe Shopping Center in Fort Wayne, IN. Darden Restaurants currently operates 23 Smokey Bones locations throughout 13 states, with 20 to 25 more expected to open each of the next three years. The company also operates as Red Lobster, Olive Garden and Bahama Breeze.Gander Mountain (952-830-8700) is planning to open a store in Brainerd, MN during late 2004 and early 2005. The company recently opened two superstores at locations in Lakeville and Forest Lake, MN. The Lakeville store is at the intersection of Kenyon Avenue and Interstate 35. The 95,000 sq.ft. superstores are three to four times larger than the six other Gander Mountain stores in the Twin Cities area of MN. The company currently operates 63 stores, with locations in IA, IL, IN, MI, MN, NY, OH, PA and WI. Figaro’s Italian Pizza, Inc. (503-371-9318) signed a franchise agreement to open 75 units throughout UT during the coming 10 years. The company’s second and third UT restaurants recently opened in Herriman and Salt Lake City, joining a location in Riverton that opened in November 2002. The company currently operates 85 franchised locations throughout 14 states. Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corp. (609-387-7800) is planning to open a store at a former Phar-Mor site at 4100 West Willow Knolls in Peoria, IL. The company will remodel the building and will open a 69,310 sq.ft. store, with 63,723 sq.ft. used for sales space. Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corp. currently operates more than 315 stores throughout 42 states. Johnny Appleseed’s, Inc. (978-922-2040) opened stores in Westwood and Acton, MA. The company also has outlets in Beverly and Kittery, ME. Johnny Appleseed’s, Inc. currently operates 16 stores. Traditionally, the company focused on clothing for customers over 40 years old. Recently, however, the company changed focus and is targeting a younger market. Appleseed’s currently draws customers nationwide, with many catalog orders coming from CA, FL, NY and OH. The company is looking into placing stores into those markets. |
