Saks, Inc. (205-940-4000) is planning to open a McRae’s store at Riverchase Galleria in Birmingham, AL. Saks, which acquired the location from Federated in January, will move its existing 136,000 sq.ft. store into a 230,000 sq.ft. three-level space with a scheduled opening for Fall 2004. Saks currently operates 243 department stores under the following tradenames: Parisian, Proffitt’s, McRae’s, Younkers, Herberger’s, Carson Pirie Scott, Berner’s and Boston Store, as well as 16 Club Libby Lu specialty stores. The company also operates Saks Fifth Avenue Enterprises, which runs 62 Saks Fifth Avenue stores and 53 Off 5th stores.

 

Skyline Chili, Inc. (513-874-1188) is planning to open a restaurant at Russell Plaza, a center located at the intersection of U.S. 23 and Diedrich Boulevard in Ashland, KY. Opening is slated for April 2004. The center is tenanted by Golden Corral, Value City, Kroger, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Sam Goody and Pizza Hut. The company currently operates 130 restaurants throughout the Midwest and Southeast, most of which are located throughout OH and in northern KY, near Cincinnati.

 

Haverty Furniture Cos., Inc. (404-443-2900) is planning to open a store in Bowie, MD, which will be the fourth store in the greater Washington, DC market. A lease was recently signed for a store in Columbia, MD that will open in mid-2004. The company currently operates 112 showrooms in 14 southern and central states.

 

Wal*Mart Stores, Inc. (650-837-5000) is planning to open a 200,000 sq.ft. Wal*Mart Supercenter on East Hammer Lane in Stockton, CA. Construction is slated to begin during January or February, with opening slated for early 2005. Overall, the company is planning to open 50 to 55 discount stores and 220 to 230 supercenters. Relocations or expansions of existing discount stores are expected to account for about 140 of the supercenters.

 

Old Navy (800-653-6289) is planning to open a 15,000 sq.ft. store at the Centerpointe Mall located at the intersection of 28th Street and East Beltline Avenue in Grand Rapids, MI. Opening is slated for June. The company currently operates 800 locations nationwide.

 

Bass Pro Shops (417-873-5000) is planning to open a store at Colonial Mall in Myrtle Beach, SC. The company is expanding and redesigning part of the former Kmart store, bringing the structure to 119,000 sq.ft. Opening is slated for late Spring 2004.

 

Ross-Simons (401-463-3100) is planning to open a store at Garden State Plaza in Paramus, NJ. The company, which sells jewelry, china, glassware, home decor, gifts and collectibles, operates 15 stores, including two in NJ. The Garden State Plaza store will be less than 5,000 sq.ft., but will feature a kiosk system for viewing and ordering tabletop and specialty collectible items from china to crystal from around the world. Other new stores are being planned.

 

Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (336-658-4000) is planning to open a store at the north side of the Nampa-Caldwell Boulevard in west Nampa, ID during early 2004. The store will be 150,000 sq.ft. and will include a lawn and garden center.

 

Home Depot, Inc. (770-433-8211) is planning to open a 102,000 sq.ft. store, including a 23,000 sq.ft. lawn and garden center, in west Nampa, ID.

 

Jos. A. Bank (410-239-2700) recently opened stores in Boca Raton, Gainesville, Wellington, Winter Park and Pensacola, FL. The company is now planning to open locations in Ponte Vedra and Destin, FL. In addition, there are four executed leases for 2004 openings in Fort Lauderdale and Ormond Beach, FL and Daphney and Birmingham, AL. The company currently operates 197 stores throughout 34 states and Washington, DC. Overall, the company plans to triple its store base to approximately 500 stores by the end of 2007. The number of store openings in 2003 will be approximately 50, with 75 openings slated for 2004 and 100 openings each year after that.

 

Cold Stone Creamery (480-348-1704) is planning to open 50 stores throughout OH during the coming five years. Franchisees are looking to open stores at Avery Square in Dublin, Hunter’s Run in Pickerington, River Valley Mall in Lancaster, on High Street as part of the University Gateway Center and at Union Station on High Street in Columbus.

 

Rare Hospitality International, Inc. (770-399-9595) is planning to open a Longhorn Steakhouse on the site of a former Winstead’s Restaurant at 1915 S.W. Wanamaker in Topeka, KS. Opening is slated for Spring 2004.

 

Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Inc. (415-248-3425) is planning to open stores in Ventura, CA and Cherry Creek, CO. Both stores are slated to open during the fourth quarter of 2003. Additionally, Peet’s is planning to open three stores throughout northern CA, including locations in  Fremont, Sacramento and Santa Rosa during 2004. The company currently operates 72 stores throughout six states.

 

Qdoba Restaurant Corp. (303-629-5000) is planning to open a Qdoba Mexican Grill restaurant in Lafayette, LA. The company is planning to open seven restaurants throughout southern LA, with the first locations opening in Lafayette or Baton Rouge. Qdoba Mexican Grill is a wholly owned subsidiary of Jack In The Box, Inc. and operates 20 locations throughout 20 states.

 

Fresh Enterprises (805-495-4704) is planning to open 20 Baja Fresh Mexican Grill restaurants throughout the Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN market during the coming five years. The first restaurant to open will be in Coon Rapids during March 2004. Other possible sites include Woodbury, Plymouth and downtown Minneapolis. The company currently operates more than 260 restaurants throughout 27 states.

 

Best Buy Co. (952-947-2000) is planning to open at least 70 stores annually during the coming several fiscal years. The company’s subsidiaries operate stores under the names Best Buy, Future Shop, Geek Squad and Magnolia Audio Video at more than 700 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada.

 

IHOP Corp. (818-240-6055) signed an agreement with Landmark Restaurant Group to open 22 restaurants throughout AZ, CA and NV. Under the deal, the company expects to begin opening restaurants by the Summer 2004. Overall, the company plans to add 130 franchises in more than 25 states during the coming five to 10 years. IHOP currently operates 214 locations in CA, 27 in AZ and 18 in NV.

 

Nugget Market, Inc. (530-669-3300) is planning to open a store during July 2004 in West Sacramento, CA. The company also is planning to open two stores a year within an hour and a half of Sacramento. The company currently operates locations in Sacramento, Davis, Woodland and Vacaville. The stores typically average 25,000 sq.ft. to 55,000 sq.ft. The prototype size for future stores is 52,000 sq.ft.

 

Kohl’s Corp. (262-703-7000) is planning to open three stores in the East Bay area of CA. The company also is planning to open stores in Pleasanton, Brentwood and Fremont, CA. The company currently operates 500 stores throughout 34 states.

 

Eckerd Corp. (800-325-3737) is planning to open a store a the intersection of Jonesboro Road and Mill Road in McDonough, GA. The store is adjacent to Henry Town Center, a 700,000 sq.ft. center. Opening is slated for April 2004.
