Who's Opening & Where Eckerd (800-325-3737) plans to open a 13,813 sq.ft. store on Narcoosee Road and Highway 528 in the Lee Vista area of Orlando, FL. The site is adjacent to a 948-acre planned residential community. The freestanding store, with a drive-thru, is expected to open in January 2004. Kolache Factory (281-829-6188) a quick-serve bakery-cafe concept plans to open 200 franchised locations by 2008. The company currently operates 12 corporate stores and oversees seven franchised units with operations in TX and IN. Future openings are anticipated in AZ, CO, MO, OH, KY, MN, TX, CA and FL. Jerry’s Foods (952-922-8335) plans to acquire an 83,000 sq.ft. Target store on West Broadway in Minneapolis, MN and open a Cub Foods supermarket in the space. Jerry’s Foods operates 25 supermarkets in MN, WI and FL. Ikea (610-834-0180) plans to open a 366,000 sq.ft. store at Atlantic Station on Northside Drive in Atlanta, GA. The furniture store will occupy two levels. The company also plans to open stores in Somerville, MA and Tempe, AZ, as well as relocate a unit in Houston, TX. The 185-unit chain expects to open five stores annually in the coming 10 years. Beall’s Outlet (800-250-9206) is taking 30,000 sq.ft. of a 102,961 sq.ft. vacant Kmart on State Road 70 East at the Creekwood Crossing Shopping Center in East Manatee, FL. The center is already anchored by Beall’s Department Store. Yard House Restaurants LLC (949-727-0959) plans to open a 9,800 sq.ft. restaurant during Spring 2004 at The Glen Town Center in Glenview, IL. The opening will mark the chain’s eighth location and its entry into Chicago. Walgreen (847-914-2500) plans to open a 14,000 sq.ft. store in Spokane, WA at the site of a former Chevron Station and across the street from an existing Walgreens RxPress Pharmacy. Walgreen acquired the site, which housed a gas station, convenience store and car wash, for $2 million. Nordstrom (206-628-2111) plans to open a store at the Oak Shopping Center in Thousand Oaks, CA during the Fall of 2006. The store will occupy between 124,000 sq.ft. and 144,000 sq.ft. The company also plans to open a store at the Irvine Spectrum Center in Irvine, CA during 2005. The Buckle (308-236-8491) plans to open seven apparel stores by the end of its fiscal year. Recreational Equipment Inc. (800-426-4840) is relocating its store on 194th Street in Lynnwood, WA to the Alderwood Mall. The new store will utilize 22,500 sq.ft. and is slated to open Fall of 2004. REI operates 66 sporting good stores in 24 states.The Kroger Co., (513-762-4000) is negotiating to open a supermarket at the Westport Plaza in a former Kmart space in Louisville, KY. The Kmart store would be demolished to make way for the supermarket. The Westport Plaza site on Hurstbourne Parkway would be a relocation for the company’s store on Westport Road in the Rolling Hills Shopping Center. Texas Roadhouse (800-839-7623) plans to open 14 restaurants by the end of this year. The 151-unit chain plans to continue expanding in secondary markets and this year will make its entrance to KS, NH, NY and MT. Jos. A Bank Clothiers (410-239-2700) plans to open between 50 to 75 stores in fiscal 2004, followed by 75 to 100 openings each year thereafter, with the goal of expanding the 160-unit chain to operating 500 stores. The company expects to open 29 stores by the end of this year. Dollar General (615-855-4000) recently acquired three parcels in VA. The transactions included a .80 acre site in Nickelsville, the second a 1.166 acre parcel in Norton and a 1.177 acre site adjacent to Food Lion in Russell County. Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina (704-521-2688) plans to grow by 200 units in the next five years. The company has an agreement with a licensee to open 20 fresh Mex restaurants in the next four years in SC and NC. Future growth will also take place in FL and TN. Regal Entertainment Group (865-922-1123) plans to open a movie theater at the World Famous Bridge Street in Huntsville, AL. The 16-screen theater will feature stadium seating with a high-fidelity, digital surround-sound system. Cameron Mitchell Restaurants (614-621-3663) is opening two Fish Market restaurants in Cleveland and Cincinnati, OH. The first of the two restaurants is opening this month and the second is opening in November or December. The company currently operates a Fish Market in Newport, KY. W.S. Badcock Corp. (863-425-4921) plans to have 178 Badcock & More stores operating nationwide by the end of 2004. The company currently operates 128 stores under the Badcock & More label. |
