McDonald’s Corp. (630-623-3000) is opening Chef Mac’s, a new concept Cajun-style restaurant, on the first floor of an office building across from City Hall and the Superdome in New Orleans, LA. The menu will include Louisiana shrimp, po-boys, muffulettas, barbecue chicken, panini bread filled with chicken cordon bleu and margarita pizzas. Food will be served on plates, not plastic dishes. The restaurants also will offer specialty coffees such as latte, mocha, cappuccino and espresso and desserts, including praline cheesecake and bread pudding. Customers will order and pick up at a 30-foot circular counter and the company is considering table service. The company will keep the traditional fast food items on the menu, as well. The company currently operates 31,000 restaurants, including 13,600 in the U.S.

Main Street & Main, Inc. (602-852-9000) recently opened a Bamboo Club location in Novi, MI and a T.G.I. Friday’s restaurant in the Desert Ridge Mall in Phoenix, AZ. Currently, the company is planning to open a Bamboo Club location in Raleigh, NC by the end of the year. The company currently operates 57 T.G.I. Friday’s restaurants, five Redfish locations, 10 Bamboo Club and one Cooperstown restaurants.

Kohl’s Corp. (262-703-7000) is planning to open a Kohl’s store at the University Mall in Burlington, VT. The space was formerly occupied by Ames. The company also is planning to renovate the building by adding another floor. Construction is expected to begin this month or in October, with opening slated for Spring 2004. The company also is planning to open a store in a space formerly occupied by Ames in West Lebanon, VT.

Atlanta Bread Co. (770-432-0933) is planning to open 30 Bakery Cafes throughout NY during the coming five years. The company is planning to open locations in New York City, the Bronx, Kings, Nassau, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk and Westchester. The company currently operates 150 locations nationwide.

Applebee’s International, Inc. (913-967-4000) is opening an Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar on Michigan Avenue in Marshall, MI. Opening is slated for this Fall. The company currently operates more than 1,500 restaurants nationwide.

Granite City Food & Brewery Ltd. (952-525-2070) is planning to open locations in West Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, IA during the Fall. The company also is planning to open a restaurant in Davenport, IA during the first quarter of 2004. The company currently operates three brewpubs in MN, ND and SD.

Pacific Sunwear of California, Inc. (714-414-4000) is planning to open a total of 1,300 to 1,400 stores by the end of fiscal year 2007, which would include 900 to 1,000 PacSun stores and 400 d.e.m.o. stores. The company currently operates 114 d.e.m.o. stores in regional shopping malls throughout 24 states. These stores cater to customers aged 15 to 24 and carry brands like Phat Farm, Ecko, Enyce, Sean John and Shady Ltd. This year, the company expects to open a total of 86 stores, including 65 PacSun locations, seven PacSun outlet stores, and 14 d.e.m.o. stores. The company currently operates 650 PacSun stores and 75 PacSun outlet stores throughout 49 states and Puerto Rico.

Urban Outfitters, Inc. (215-564-2313) is planning to open a 10,000 sq.ft. flagship Anthropologie store at the Palm Beach Gardens Center, a 1.35 million sq.ft. center located in Palm Beach, FL. The company currently operates 38 Anthropologie stores in the U.S.

Duane Reade International, Inc. (212-273-5700) is planning to open six to eight drug stores during the remainder of the year, for a total of 17 to 19 locations for all of 2003. The company also is planning to open 18 to 22 stores during fiscal 2004.

Friendly’s Restaurants Franchise, Inc. (413-543-2400) has entered into a franchise agreement to open 10 restaurants in the Jacksonville, FL area during the coming seven years. The locations include Nassau, Duval, Baker, Clay, St. John’s and Putname Counties in FL. The first opening is slated for next year. The company currently operates 540 locations throughout the Northeast. The company also manufactures ice cream, which is distributed through more than 3,500 supermarkets and other locations.

Cold Stone Creamery (480-348-1704) is planning to operate 1,000 ice cream shops by the end of next year. The company currently operates more than 425 shops and is planning to open more than one a day during the coming months.

Capri Coffee Break (970-674-1835) is planning to open 2,000 locations during the coming four years. The company currently operates seven stores in CO and one in Las Vegas, NV. There are currently 30 locations planned for CA, CO, FL and IN and another 200 planned for next year. The shops cater to families and are designed in purple and gold, with sofas and loveseats.

O’Reilly Automotive, Inc. (417-862-6708) is planning to open 70 stores during the remainder of the year. The company currently operates 1,041 stores nationwide.

Buca di Beppo (612-288-2382) is opening an 8,200 sq.ft. restaurant at Janss Marketplace, a 450,000 sq.ft. center located in Thousand Oaks, CA. The restaurant will occupy the space across from Mervyns California at the intersection of Moorpark Road and Hillcrest Drive. Cotenants include Gold’s Gym, Marshall’s, Old Navy, Mann Theaters, Linens ‘n Things, Toys "R" Us and T.G.I. Friday’s.

Guitar Center, Inc. (818-735-8800) is planning to open three large format stores and one small format store during the third quarter of 2003. The company also is planning to open flagship Guitar Center stores in New York, NY and Nashville, TN. Overall, the company currently operates 115 locations, with 102 stores in 42 major markets and 13 stores in secondary markets nationwide.

Toys "R" Us, Inc. (201-262-7800) is planning to open a 30,719 sq.ft. Babies "R" Us store at The Festival at Waldorf, a 501,000 sq.ft. center located at the intersection of Route 5/301 and Route 228 in Waldorf, MD. The space was formerly occupied by SuperFresh. Opening is slated for early December. It will be the company’s eighth store in the Washington, DC market. Babies "R" Us currently operates 186 stores nationwide.

Lowe’s Cos., Inc. (336-658-4000) is planning to open a 143,000 sq.ft. Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse store on a land area of 14 acres at Spring Towne Shopping Center located north of Route 724 in Spring Township, PA. The store will include a 27,000 sq.ft. garden center. The company currently operates more than 875 stores throughout 45 states. The company also is in the middle of an aggressive expansion plan, opening an average of two stores per week.

Gander Mountain (952-830-8700) is planning to open sporting goods stores in NY and suburban Chicago, IL area this year. The new stores will be larger format, ranging in size from 80,000 sq.ft. to 100,000 sq.ft. That compares to the 55,000 sq.ft. stores the company currently operates. The larger stores will include an expanded product line, including all-terrain vehicles. The new stores in Geneva, IL and Rochester and Buffalo, NY are among eight new locations the company is planning for this year.

The Krystal Co. (800-458-5841) is planning to open 20 locations throughout Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas County, FL during the coming five years. The company also plans on opening a restaurant at the intersection of West Hillsborough Avenue and Memorial Drive and one at the intersection of Armenia and Hillsborough Avenues in Tampa, FL by the end of the year. The company currently operates 420 restaurants throughout the Southeast.
