Who's Opening & Where Ross Stores, Inc. (510-505-4400) is planning to open a 30,187 sq.ft. Ross Dress For Less store at 100 Oaks Mall in Nashville, TN during September. The space was formerly occupied by Mars Music. The company currently operates more than 500 stores throughout 25 states.
Borders Group, Inc. (734-477-1265) is planning to open two Borders Books & Music stores in TX by July 2004. A 26,000 sq.ft. store will open at the intersection of Lake Woodlands Drive and Six Pines Drive in Houston, TX during June. It will be the company’s fifth location in the Houston market. A 22,000 sq.ft. store is slated to open at the intersection of McKinney Avenue and Lemmon Avenue in Dallas, TX during July. It will be the company’s 10th store in the Dallas-Fort Worth market. Borders currently operates 18 stores throughout TX. Overall, the company operates over 430 Borders domestic superstores, 37 international Borders stores, located primarily in the U.K. and the Pacific Rim; 36 Books etc. stores throughout Great Britain and approximately 750 Waldenbooks stores nationwide.
Burlington Coat Factory (609-387-7800) is planning to open three freestanding stores by the end of fiscal 2004, six additional Burlington Coat Factory stores and to convert two of the previously closed Decelle stores to Cohoes Fashions stores. The company currently operates more than 330 stores offering current, brand-name clothing, bath items, children’s apparel and furniture, gifts, jewelry, linens, and shoes. The company operates under such names as Burlington Coat Factory, Baby Depot, Cohoes Fashions, Luxury Linens, MJM Designer Shoes, and Totally 4 Kids in more than 40 states.
The Sherwin Williams Co. (678-261-6840) is looking to open stores from 4,000 sq.ft. to 6,000 sq.ft. throughout the Southeast. The company currently operates nearly 2,700 paint stores throughout North America. It sells automotive finishing and refinishing products through nearly 200 wholesale branches in the US, Canada, Chile, Jamaica, and Peru.
Peebles, Inc. (434-447-5200) is planning to open several Peebles department store locations throughout the Atlanta, GA area this year. The first store to open will be the in the Winder, GA area by Spring 2005. Overall, the company is planning to open 15 to 20 stores this year and up to 50 during 2005. Whole Foods Market, Inc. (512-391-8400) is planning to open six stores throughout the Puget Sound area of Seattle, WA by early 2006. All of the stores will be in the 50,000 sq.ft. range. The company also is planning to open two stores in the Issaquah/Sammamish Plateau/Preston area by early 2005 and in Redmond and neighboring communities to the east, during mid-2005.
Eatzi’s Corp. (972-980-9917) is planning to open its second metro Atlanta, GA restaurant in Park Place during Spring 2005. The site is located across from the Perimeter Mall.
Darden Restaurants, Inc. (407-245-5366) is planning to open an Olive Garden restaurant at the Crystal Mall located on Route 85 in Waterford, CT. Opening is slated for early June. The 7,400 sq.ft. building is designed like a Tuscan farmhouse with stone and wood. The design has been used at most of the restaurants that have opened since January 2000. Olive Garden currently operates 528 restaurants throughout the U.S. and six throughout Canada.
Big Lots, Inc. (614-278-6800) is planning to open 90 stores, adding furniture departments to 219 stores, remodeling 68 stores and opening a fifth distribution center. The company currently operates more than 1,400 Big Lots stores throughout 45 states. Nearly 40% of the stores are located in CA, FL, OH and TX.
CSK Auto, Inc. (602-631-7369) is looking to open stores from 18,000 sq.ft. to 40,000 sq.ft. throughout AK, CA, HI, MN, OR, WA and WI. The company is planning to open 45 stores this year. The company currently operates 1,114 stores throughout 19 states under the following tradenames: Checker Auto Parts, Schuck’s Auto Supply and Kragen Auto Parts. Pathmark Stores, Inc. (732-499-3354) is planning to open 55,000 sq.ft. supermarkets throughout the greater New York, NY; NJ and Philadelphia, PA areas. The company currently operates more than 140 supermarkets, all under the Pathmark banner, throughout DE, NJ, NY and PA.
Walgreen Co. (847-914-2500) is planning to open three Walgreens drug stores throughout the Salt Lake City, UT area. The company currently operates 4,300 Walgreens stores throughout 44 states and Puerto Rico.
JCPenney Co., Inc. (972-431-1000) is planning to open a 95,000 sq.ft. JCPenney department store at Eastdale Mall in Montgomery, AL. Completion is slated for Spring 2005. JCPenney will be the fifth department store unit at the mall joining a lineup of Dillard’s, Sears, Parisian Women and Parisian Men & Children. The 800,000 sq.ft. mall also includes more than 85 specialty stores, The Courtyard Cafes, The Ice Palace and Eastdale Cinemas 8. In addition, 30,000 sq.ft. of new retail shop space will be added to the mall. The new JCPenney will be designed in one of the company’s latest and most convenient formats, featuring wider aisles for shopping carts, improved lighting and new branding graphics.
Target Corp. (612-304-6073) is planning to open a 124,500 sq.ft. store at Hawley Lane Mall located in Trumbull, CT. Opening is slated for March 2005. Target will co-anchor with Kohl’s and HomeGoods, as well as 20 additional stores and restaurants, including Dress Barn, Radio Shack, Payless ShoeSource, McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts. To accommodate the Target, a vacant office building will be demolished. Demographics include a trade-area population of 85,000 earning $59,000 as the average household income.
Bill Miller Bar-B-Q (210-225-4461) is planning to open a location in Wilson County, TX during the Summer at the intersection of U.S. 181 and State Highway 97. Area retail includes H-E-B supermarket. The company currently operates 59 Bill Miller Bar-B-Q restaurants throughout San Antonio, Austin and Corpus Christi, TX.
Conn’s, Inc. (409-832-1696) is planning to open three appliance stores during fiscal 2004, as well as four to six stores during fiscal 2005. These stores will include at least three locations in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area.
